Terahertz technology has shown remarkable potential for application in the field of imaging since it offers several particular advantages such as great penetration capabilities, non-ionization and high instantaneous bandwidth. This paper presents a focal plane imging system based on CMOS terathertz detector for forward-looking detection. The focal plane imaging system has several advantages, including fast scanning, simple composition, low cost, and easy integration of a CMOS detector. It is composed of a terahertz radiation source, a Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) lens and a broadband CMOS detector. The detector was fabricated in a 65 nm CMOS process. The operating frequency range of the detector covers 75 GHz to 1000 GHz. Measurement results have shown that the focal plane imaging system is capable of stably imaging at frequencies of 100 GHz and 220 GHz. To address the issue of missing information in measurement images, the morphological closing algorithm is employed to process the original image, successfully filling in the missing information and improving image quality. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. In the virtual simulation platform, frequent physical interactions between the robot and the environment poses extremely high demands on the handling of collisions and contacts in the simulation. Current mainstream virtual simulation platforms, in pursuit of real-time performance, have sacrificed some accuracy in simulation algorithms, leading to control strategies obtained in training that are difficult to directly transfer to actual physical machines. This virtual-physical discrepancy has significantly impacted the efficiency and effectiveness of mobile robot simulation. Existing work has attempted to use more accurate mathematical modeling and design more realistic solvers, but at the cost of uncontrollable problem scale and extremely high computational complexity. Starting from this perspective, this paper designs a non-penetration simulation algorithm based on extended Position-Based Dynamics (XPBD), which improves the physical processing accuracy during the simulation while ensuring real-time performance, enhances the fidelity of the simulation, and reduces the virtual-physical discrepancy. Simulation experiments have been conducted to validate the reliability of our proposed algorithm.

Cochlear implant surgery is one of the most challenging surgeries due to the limited workspace and delicate inner structure. A traditional electrode implant instrument is a passive elastic forceps, which needs another forceps to help grip or release the electrode. It is not convenient to achieve delicate operations in a confined space. This paper develops a miniaturized pneumatic electrode gripper at the tip of forceps to achieve active gripping. It transmits the pressurized air through 3D-printed inner lumens to form two inflated soft bubbles to push the electrode to the rigid shell for accurate positioning. The finite element analysis is carried out to evaluate the shape of inflated soft bubbles with variable soft films. A prototype of a gripper with inner tortuous airways is fabricated using micro 3D printing technique, and experiments are carried out to validate its accuracy and demonstrate its ability to grip and release. Finally, robotic teleoperation using a robotic arm and a joystick is implemented for cochlear implant surgery. Results demonstrate that the developed miniaturized pneumatic gripper has successfully achieved electrode implantation in a 3D-printed cochlear phantom. © 2022 IEEE.

Video-based person re-identification (ReID) has become increasingly important due to its applications in video surveillance applications. By employing events in video-based person ReID, more motion information can be provided between continuous frames to improve recognition accuracy. Previous approaches have assisted by introducing event data into the video person ReID task, but they still cannot avoid the privacy leakage problem caused by RGB images. In order to avoid privacy attacks and to take advantage of the benefits of event data, we consider using only event data. To make full use of the information in the event stream, we propose a Cross-Modality and Temporal Collaboration (CMTC) network for event-based video person ReID. First, we design an event transform network to obtain corresponding auxiliary information from the input of raw events. Additionally, we propose a differential modality collaboration module to balance the roles of events and auxiliaries to achieve complementary effects. Furthermore, we introduce a temporal collaboration module to exploit motion information and appearance cues. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms others in the task of event-based video person ReID.

Topic shift detection aims to identify whether there is a change in the current topic of conversation or if a change is needed. The study found previous work did not evaluate the performance of large language models like ChatGPT on the task of topic shift. Therefore, this paper's main task and innovation lie in analyzing ChatGPT's performance on topic shift detection. To provide a more comprehensive evaluation, we conducted topic shift detection tasks on ChatGPT from three aspects: single utterances, adjacent utterances, and contextual levels. Additionally, to gauge the performance of large language models, we conducted experiments on multiple small-scale models and compared the results of the two models. Experimental results on the publicly available English TIAGE dataset showed that small-scale models exhibited lower recall in all three aspects, while ChatGPT performed better in the recall. This suggests that compared to small-scale models, large models are more capable of accurately detecting topic shifts. However, large models also exhibited lower precision, indicating that while ChatGPT can recognize content differences in utterances, its judgment on whether these different contents belong to the same topic is poor. © 2024 IEEE.

The transient electromagnetic method (TEM) is widely used in geophysical exploration. In TEM data interpretation, nonlinear inversion plays an important role. However, traditional TEM nonlinear inversion adopts the OCCAM imaging method, which merely presents the approximate shape of the stratum model, with poor inversion accuracy and much iteration time. To solve the above problems, a novel nonlinear inversion approach based on extreme learning machine (ELM) is proposed in this paper. The ELM is required to establish the input–output mapping relationship of the inversion network only once through the analytical method, which is different from the traditional neural network method that demands iterative gradient learning and is prone to fall into the local optimum. Moreover, the ELM inversion network by randomly assigning the hidden layer parameters is capable of mapping the observed TEM data and quickly producing resistivity images, which avoids time-consuming iteration and inversion calculations. The presented approach is applied to both synthetic and field examples. The results show that compared with the traditional nonlinear inversion algorithms (BP and OCCAM), the proposed method achieves better inversion accuracy and significantly reduces the calculation time, which verifies the effectiveness of the ELM algorithm for TEM data interpretation. In the actual production of slot die coating, the minimum coating thickness and the maximum substrate moving speed could only be judged by production experience, and there was no accurate prediction model due to the nonlinear characteristics of fluid motion. Therefore, building a reasonable and efficient prediction model for slot die coating is now an urgent and challenging task. In this paper, an optimized extreme learning machine (ELM) based on improved beetle antennae search (IBAS) algorithm is proposed for slot die coating prediction. The optimized ELM model can well learn the nonlinear characteristics of the system and make accurate predictions, thus solving the traditional inaccurate empirical judgment. As the prediction accuracy of ELM depends on the selection of weights and biases, the IBAS optimization algorithm is used to quickly search for the optimal value of weights and biases in the ELM network. IBAS algorithm improves the generation mechanism of antennae on the basis of the original algorithm, so that the algorithm can converge quickly. At the same time, the search strategy of the algorithm is improved to avoid falling into the local optimal solution. By predicting the production data of slit coating, the feasibility and effectiveness of IBAS-ELM model are proved.

This paper investigates a leader-following consensus problem for high-order linear multi-agent systems under a directed graph topology, containing a spanning tree. It is supposed that each agent can obtain full state of itself and receive its neighbors' state with noises, where the intensities of noises are vector functions of relative states of agents. To achieve leader-following consensus in this scene, a consensus protocol is designed, where the gain matrix is obtained by the algebraic Riccati equation and the coupling strength should be restricted in a given interval. Specifically, the lower bound of the interval ensures the consensus and the upper bound of the interval is devoted to limit the effects of noises, then the designed protocol could attenuate the noises while driving the multi-agent systems to consensus. Finally, a simulation example is given to show the correctness of the proposed results. © 2022 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In this paper, component parameters of the boost converter are identified online using a multiple updating recursive least squares (MURLS) algorithm. The component parameters, such as resistance, inductor inductance and capacitor capacitance, are obtained directly through the identification procedure rather than transfer function coefficients. The MURLS algorithm is applied to improve the rapidity of system identification compared to the traditional recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm, which is verified by a comparative simulation between MURLS and RLS and the simulation of a load-switching scenario.
