Software Defined Networking (SDN) is one of the most recent Internet technology that manages the large scale network. SDN decouples the control plane from data plane, which simplifies the logic of network devices and reduces the cost of the network infrastructure. The control plane is the key component of a network which ensures smooth management and operation of the entire network. Distributed SDN controllers have been proposed to solve the scalability and a single point of failure problem. It is a critical issue for the switch to find the optimal controller among the distributed controllers. In this paper we propose a novel scheme for controller selection in distributed SDN environments. The proposed scheme decides optimal controller from distributed controllers by applying the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm for meta-heuristic search and Apriori algorithm for effective association rule mining between switch and controller. Computer simulation reveals that the proposed scheme consistently outperforms the scheme employing only ABC and Apriori algorithms separately in terms of response time, arrival rate, number of messages, and accuracy. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In most recent car models, the collision avoidance mechanism is installed in the car such as Auto Braking System. This built-in technology uses sensor installed in the car to provide auto stopping mechanism for the car. This system is very useful when the car is on a certain distance range with the front car. However, the technology offered pays less attention to another situation where the front car is out of sensing range. In highways, sometimes a driver in a speeding car has problem estimating a very slow or stalled traffic ahead. When the situation happens, the speeding car is forced to have a sudden drop of speed that increases the chance of collision. If the distance between the rear and front car is less than the minimum safe distance, a collision is likely to happen. To solve this, we proposed a protocol to trigger an alarm system vehicle rear-end collision warning system in mobile application. This protocol applies an existing mathematical model to calculate safe speed and distance relationship as a threshold to trigger the warning system. We present an algorithm structure that can be programmed in a smartphone application for drivers safety upon entering a risky threshold. Since this protocol is to be applied in mobile phone applications, the minimal cost for collision avoidance system in high traffic highways and regardless of the type of vehicles as well its advancement in technology. © 2023 IEEE.

The improper disposal of garbage is one of the factors that contribute to the problems that are visible in the environment, and these problems have a significant influence. The digestive issue is one of the problems caused by the increase in the population of insects and the variety of different types of pests. If waste is not recycled and managed effectively, it can negatively impact economic growth and contribute to air pollution and other health issues. Integrating computer technology, such as object recognition, might be helpful in waste management. At this point, the most popular approach to object detection is called deep learning. Therefore, this paper presents a waste recognition using Faster Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network. The research focused on recognizing plastic and disposable diapers as two separate classes since disposable diapers and plastics are essential in modern society. Convolutional neural network (CNN) which comes under deep learning has been widely used in object recognition or classification due to its effectiveness. In the Faster RCNN, we used two separate networks to predict the region proposal reshaped by a Region of Interest (RoI) pooling layer to classify the images. From the result, it can be observed that our proposed system has achieved an average accuracy of 91.2%. © 2022 IEEE.

Sports center is a place that provides services for sports court booking where people can play the sport together as a group of families or friends. However, with the traditional method of booking, which needs to book directly at the venue, many customers feel unsure about which sports court is available provided by the sports center because there are no recommendations. Thus, a new method is needed to recommend the customer according to their preferences: Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency and Cosine Similarity technique. This study proposed these methods for optimizing the sports center's recommendation system, and both are content-based filtering. It is implemented using a web-based platform. Two types of testing were conducted: functionality and cosine similarity testing that tested for user profile, location and court. As a result, the functional testing results showed all requirements correctly and successfully. The cosine similarity score for the user profile location for Test 1 is between 0.2894 and 0.5031;meanwhile, Test 2 is between 0.2781 and 0.4557. The similarity between the court and location is 1.0. It shows that the details of the sports center recommendation are similar to the features input and correctness. Therefore, it can conclude that optimizing the sports center recommendation system through content-based filtering enables the customer to choose the sports center with the similarity features based on the user's latest booking of location and court in the system. © 2023 IEEE.

Sentiment analysis is a powerful tool that can be used by businesses and organizations to gather valuable data about public opinion towards a brand, product, topic, event, and much more. However, most Malaysians post on social media using a mix of English and Malay words, also known as Manglish, which are not catered to by existing sentiment analysis models. Malaysian-centric companies that are interested to analyze the Malaysian posts would have to do so manually, which is costly and time-consuming. Motivated by this issue, this paper aims to propose a method of performing sentiment analysis on posts using the power of machine learning. Several machine learning algorithms were identified and trained to classify a Manglish post as either positive or negative. Steps are also taken to ensure the reliability of the model and to improve it after the first training experiment. We found that this method is successful in producing a model that can predict social media post sentiment with reliable and acceptable accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Experiencing menopausal phase is inevitable to most women. The earlier effect of menopause, called perimenopause, is a stage when women start to experience the symptoms of menopause. During the menopause phases, the symptoms are myriad and can be diverse for every woman. Hot flashes and sweating, heart discomfort, sleeping problems, depressive mood, impaired memory, and sexual problems are examples of the symptoms that a woman may face one, two or even more during the menopause time. Adding to the agony, these symptoms bring negative impact on a woman's family, career, and life. Unfortunately, previous studies have revealed that women are clueless and unknowledgeable about menopause and their psychological change during the phase, particularly in Malaysia. Our preliminary investigation also discovered the same findings, as the women in Malaysia were unaware of the respective symptoms. In addition, some of them even kept diaries or books to record the symptoms, which are considered ineffective. Hence, this study proposed MenoSmile, a mobile app for training, thus educating women about menopausal symptoms tracking, to help women effectively become alert, able to manage, and naturally accept their menopausal symptoms. It also functions as emotional support. There are four steps involved in the design and development which are UML diagram design, database design, interface design, and lastly, the implementation of the prototype. It is anticipated that mobile app such as MenoSmile would help women use a more practical approach in embracing phases of menopause. © 2023 IEEE.

What makes a technology privacy-enhancing? In this study, we construct an explanation grounded in the technologies and practices that people report using to enhance their privacy. We conducted an online survey of privacy experts (i.e., privacy researchers and professionals who attend to privacy conferences and communication channels) and laypersons that catalogs the technologies they identify as privacy enhancing and the various privacy strategies they employ. The analysis of 123 survey responses compares not only self-reported tool use but also differences in how privacy experts and laypersons explain their privacy practices and tools use. Differences between the two samples show that privacy experts and laypersons have different styles of reasoning when considering PETs: Experts think of PETs as technologies whose primary function is enhancing privacy, whereas laypersons conceptualize privacy enhancement as a supplemental function incorporated into other technologies. The paper concludes with a discussion about potential explanations for these differences, as well as questions they raise about how technologies can best facilitate communication and collaboration while enhancing privacy. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

PowerPlay is a game-based learning tool to educate children about energy conservation. It addresses the gap in effective mediums for teaching energy conservation to young learners and the limitations of traditional methods. This study employs the waterfall model methodology to design and implement an interactive educational game. This adaptation features two game modes, EcoFact and EcoGuess, which incorporate educational videos and enjoyment factors to engage children in fun learning about environmental responsibility. This study conducted enjoyment testing following the guidelines from eGameFlow to ensure an engaging and motivating learning experience. Results demonstrate high user engagement and enjoyment levels, validating the game's educational impact. PowerPlay emerges as a promising tool for fostering environmental awareness and responsibility in children through an innovative and enjoyable medium. © 2024 IEEE.

Existing studies solve software engineering tasks using code infilling through LLMC. They utilize context information, which refers to data near the target code of infilling, as input prompts. Although prompts are essential for infilling the target code, current studies use them without analyzing the impact of the representation and scope of context on code infilling. In this study, we analyzed how context representation and scope affect the performance of code infilling. We used XLCost, which contains code, comments, and a function comment for various programming languages. The combination of code and a function comment for context representation yielded the best code infilling performance. Furthermore, we found that the context scope is proportional to performance. Our analysis results can be applied in various tasks that involve code infilling in the future. © 2024 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

In the healthcare domain, blockchains technology plays a vital role in securely sharing electronic health records (EHRs) among network participants. Unfortunately, the fragmentation of private blockchain deployments disallows the sharing of EHRs across network boundaries. To address this problem, we propose a blockchain federation that supports efficient inter-blockchain communication. Our federation adopts a unified integrated approach that consists of registering independent networks and deploying a unified module in each participating network. By establishing a one-to-many connection between networks, our federation enables querying transactions from the source network to trigger a smart contract in the target blockchain for accessing patient’s records. Through experiments involving multiple blockchains deployed on different platforms, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed healthcare blockchain federation. The experimental results validate the applicability of our solution in promoting efficient inter-blockchain communication and extending EHRs sharing beyond a single network boundary. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
