This innovative practice full paper presents an empirical study aimed at evaluating the potential of ChatGPT, an advanced AI-driven chatbot, as a supplementary educational tool in undergraduate computer science and software engineering (CSSE) courses. The study, initiated in the summer of 2023, focused on assessing ChatGPT's capabilities in generating accurate and complete computer code, identifying and rectifying code defects (bugs), and its scalability in handling larger programs. To achieve this, we conducted a series of experiments with ChatGPT. In one experiment, we introduced bugs into small programs from introductory CSSE courses. ChatGPT was tasked with detecting these defects and providing recommendations for fixing them. We evaluated ChatGPT's effectiveness in bug detection, the quality of its recommendations, and the completeness of the proposed solutions. We sought answers to questions such as whether ChatGPT found all injected defects, provided appropriate recommendations, and delivered high-quality solutions based on criteria like code completeness, size, complexity, and readability. In another experiment, ChatGPT was asked to generate code for assignments from previous CSSE courses, including Intro to computer science and Programming in C++, Intro to Python Programming, and Object-Oriented Programming and Data Structures using Java. We assessed the generated code's correctness and quality in comparison to student-written code. Similarly, in a third experiment, we evaluated ChatGPT's ability to generate larger programs using requirement specifications from an upper-division CSSE course on Agile software engineering. Analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data from these experiments during the summer, we determined that ChatGPT showed promise as an educational tool. This study provides an innovative architectural model for e-Health systems that aims to improve cyber resilience while maintaining high availability under fluctuating traffic loads. We examined typical cybersecurity incidents in the field of e-Health, their correlations with architectural defects, and frequent design patterns in currently operational systems. A testing approach based on our research finds those weaknesses and proposes viable fixes. In this paper, a comprehensive support strategy for transitioning from conventional monolithic architectures to microservices is presented. This change makes use of cloud computing's vertical and horizontal scalability to maximize resource utilization while ensuring system reliability. We also discuss deployment ideas for the new microservices, focusing on operational resilience and cybersecurity in e-Health environments. © 2025, Politechnica University of Bucharest. We propose an unsupervised insider threat detection system that learns normal user behaviors through audit data using neural networks equipped with multi-head self-attention mechanisms. The attention mechanisms learn precise normal user behaviors using large event windows. The key idea is to consider a sequence abnormal when it exhibits some events that are not likely to happen given the preceding events sequence. In addition, our method provides insights into detected threats through an event-based scoring system to facilitate threat understanding by security experts. Furthermore, the proposed solution does not require intensive audit logs pre-processing, such as manual domain knowledge-rich features extraction and data balancing. Thus, the proposed approach is easy to implement and use across organizations regardless of their expertise level. The proposed solution also provides the ability to detect threats in real-time. On the benchmark dataset CERT version 4.2, our solution, combined with hyperparameter search by Bayesian optimization, outperforms the previous state-of-the-art approaches with an area under the ROC curve of 97.23%, a recall of 91.51%, an accuracy of 93.13% and a false positive rate of 6.8%. © 2024 IEEE.

Searchable Encryption(SE)enables data owners to search remotely stored ciphertexts selectively.A practical model that is closest to real life should be able to handle search queries with multiple keywords and multiple data owners/users,and even return the top-k most relevant search results when *** refer to a model that satisfies all of the conditions a 3-multi ranked search ***,SE schemes that have been proposed to date use fully trusted trapdoor generation centers,and several methods assume a secure connection between the data users and a trapdoor generation *** is,they assume the trapdoor generation center is the only entity that can learn the information regarding queried keywords,but it will never attempt to use it in any other manner than that requested,which is impractical in real *** this study,to enhance the security,we propose a new 3-multi ranked SE scheme that satisfies all conditions without these security *** proposed scheme uses randomized keywords to protect the interested keywords of users from both outside adversaries and the honest-but-curious trapdoor generation center,thereby preventing attackers from determining whether two different queries include the same ***,we develop a method for managing multiple encrypted keywords from every data owner,each encrypted with a different *** evaluation demonstrates that,despite the trade-off overhead that results from the weaker security assumption,the proposed scheme achieves reasonable performance compared to extant schemes,which implies that our scheme is practical and closest to real life.

This innovative practice full paper describes a new software framework based on JU nit to test student work. Automated testing is an important capability when teaching software development at the college level. Ideally, a testing system will allow the instructor to efficiently create a thorough set of tests. Also, the software should facilitate grading tasks and produce informative reports that can be distributed to the students in a timely fashion. For Java development, the well-known JUnit framework enables a test suite to be applied to a student's submission. The mutools library presented here extends the JUnit framework in novel ways to accelerate the instructor's task of creating test suites. This new framework allows the instructor to augment tests with directives to control scoring and reporting. The four main capabilities of the software include: 1) An assert statement that does not terminate the test when it has failed. Instead, statistics are maintained regarding the success or failure of each assert statement. 2) Tests that can be configured to award partial credit. This can be useful in situations where the instructor deems it appropriate to award students some credit even in the presence of incorrect asserts. 3) Tests that can be grouped into categories that match a particular rubric item. Java annotations are placed on the test suite to define these categories. For example, @TestCategory(name= 'remove', points=10.0) specifies that 10 points will be awarded for successful implementation of all tests related to removing an item from the collection class. 4) Testing reports that contain varying levels of information. With minimal details, the testing report shows each testing category with the following information: assert statistics, whether the test timed out or had abnormal termination. Texture plays an important role in cartoon illustrations to display object materials and enrich visual experiences. Unfortunately, manually designing and drawing an appropriate texture is not easy even for proficient artists, let alone novice or amateur people. While there exist tons of textures on the Internet, it is not easy to pick an appropriate one using traditional text-based search engines. Although several texture pickers have been proposed, they still require the users to browse the textures by themselves, which is still labor-intensive and time-consuming. In this article, an automatic texture recommendation system is proposed for recommending multiple textures to replace a set of user-specified regions in a cartoon illustration with visually pleasant look. Two measurements, the suitability measurement and the style-consistency measurement, are proposed to make sure that the recommended textures are suitable for cartoon illustration and at the same time mutually consistent in style. The suitability is measured based on the synthesizability, cartoonity, and region fitness of textures. The style-consistency is predicted using a learning-based solution since it is subjective to judge whether two textures are consistent in style. An optimization problem is formulated and solved via the genetic algorithm. In recent years, the Sri Lankan tea industry has fallen behind its competitors in the global tea market. This decline is caused by the challenges in productivity and resource management due to the limitations of traditional crop monitoring methods. This study presents a prototype system architecture that integrates multispectral imagery and IoT technologies to enhance plantation monitoring. The proposed system uses drones to capture high-resolution multispectral images and IoT devices to collect real-time environmental data, providing a comprehensive approach to assessing plant yield and detecting stress. Built on a hexagonal architecture, the system emphasizes modularity, reliability, and scalability by ensuring a clear separation of core functionalities from external components. This design facilitates easy adaptation to various crop types and agricultural contexts, enabling flexibility in deployment and use. This flexible framework can serve as a blueprint for improving decision-making and management practices across diverse plantation environments. © 2025 IEEE.

Recently, Flaky Tests have gotten the attention of the research community. These tests not only waste time and resources, but also undermine the reliability of the automated tests and hence the software systems are affected. So, the detection of Flaky Tests is very important and has a wide audience from both industry and academia. In addition, the research work is very promising having a great potential for the contribution that maps to a true value added to the up-to-date industry projects. Although lots of effort has been done to detect Flakiness in the software systems, the majority of the existed works focuses on different techniques in isolation. The aim of the work in this paper is to overlook the existed flakiness detection techniques, try to analyze them, and hold a comparison, indicating the proper context for each one. Most of the existed flakiness detection techniques are done on unit tests and library/technical projects. According to the comparative study among these techniques, it is found gaps and wide potential for contribution. On the other hand, flakiness detection techniques can be clustered under three main headers;First, study the phenomena under different testing levels by trying to focus on projects with integration, system, and end-toend tests. Second, study the phenomena under different Project types and data sets by studying business projects with user interfaces and mobile applications and so on. Third, study the phenomena toward a faster delivery cycle by studying flake tests in the context of parallel execution and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). We can conclude that not all detection techniques have the same potential where some techniques are very competent while others still struggle to achieve considerable efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a fluid rendering pipeline that uses OpenGL-4 shaders to employ the parallel processing capabilities of the GPU. The fluid's surface mesh is produced using tessellation shader stages where the input patches are assigned tessellation levels based on the fluid heightmap's curvature. The curvature is stored using a texture buffer object which allows access by shaders, thus allowing the tessellation calculations to be carried out in parallel. Use of this adaptive tessellation method increases both the simulation's framerate as well as its capacity to handle a greater number of primitives. Furthermore, it more optimally distributes the mesh's vertices to effectively increase the level of detail without using more primitives. Polygon culling using the geometry shader further optimises the number of primitives used to define the fluid surface. The Phong-Blinn model is used for surface lighting. We propose two GPU-based fluid surface flow visualisation methods. Texture buffer objects can be used to store and update a surface texture. Alternatively, particle positions are updated each frame using the geometry shader and stored in a buffer object using transform feedback. These flow visualisation techniques are particularly effective for communicating the swirling motion of vortices. © 2023 IEEE.
