Recent years have witnessed an exponential growth of mobile data traffic, which may lead to a serious traffic burn on the wireless networks and considerable power consumption. Network densification and edge caching are effective approaches to addressing these challenges. In this study, we investigate joint long-term cache allocation and short-term content delivery in cloud small cell networks (C-SCNs), where multiple smallcell BSs (SBSs) are connected to the central processor via fronthaul and can store popular contents so as to reduce the duplicated transmissions in networks. Accordingly, a long-term power minimization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing multicast beamforming, BS clustering, and cache allocation under quality of service (QoS) and storage constraints. The resultant mixed timescale design problem is an anticausal problem because the optimal cache allocation depends on the future file requests. To handle it, a two-stage optimization scheme is proposed by utilizing historical knowledge of users' requests and channel state information. Specifically, the online content delivery design is tackled with a penalty-based approach, and the periodic cache updating is optimized with a distributed alternating method. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms conventional schemes and performs extremely close to a genie-aided lower bound in the low caching region. With the increasing complexity of Cyber-Physical Systems, their behavior and decisions become increasingly difficult to understand and comprehend for users and other stakeholders. Our vision is to build self-explainable systems that can, at run-time, answer questions about the system's past, current, and future behavior. As hitherto no design methodology or reference framework exists for building such systems, we propose the Monitor, Analyze, Build, Explain (MAB-EX) framework for building self-explainable systems that leverage requirements- A nd explainability models at run-time. The basic idea of MAB-EX is to first Monitor and Analyze a certain behavior of a system, then Build an explanation from explanation models and convey this EXplanation in a suitable way to a stakeholder. We also take into account that new explanations can be learned, by updating the explanation models, should new and yet unexplainable behavior be detected by the system. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. CloudSafe: A tool for an automated security analysis for cloud computing

Cloud computing has been adopted widely, providing on-demand computing resources to improve perfornance and reduce the operational costs. However, these new functionalities also bring new ways to exploit the cloud computing environment. To assess the security of the cloud, graphical security models can be used, such as Attack Graphs and Attack Trees. However, existing models do not consider all types of threats, and also automating the security assessment functions are difficult. In this paper, we propose a new security assessment tool for the cloud named CloudSafe, an automated security assessment for the cloud. The CloudSafe tool collates various tools and frameworks to automate the security assessment process. To demonstrate the applicability of the CloudSafe, we conducted security assessment in Amazon AWS, where our experimental results showed that we can effectively gather security information of the cloud and carry out security assessment to produce security reports. Users and cloud service providers can use the security report generated by the CloudSafe to understand the security posture of the cloud being used/provided. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Many organizations that have the global software development (GSD) projects use communication technologies to connect their virtual teams. However, the virtual team faces various challenges and issues in the process of the GSD. One of the significant challenges is obtaining an efficient communication among team members. This study focuses on the communication factors among the virtual teams highlighted in the literature. The communication factors are related to the temporal distances, geographical distances, socio-cultural, access to training, technological problems that hindering communications, the communication within the status of development process, personal communication skills and language differences. The objective of this study is to examine the communication factors and identify the related issues which are commonly occurring between the virtual teams in the global software development. A survey was conducted in different sectors. The findings indicate that some of important points related to the communication factors contribute to the success of the GSD. © 2018 IEEE.

How do code changes evolve in different platforms? A mining-based investigation

Code changes are performed differently in the mobile and non-mobile platforms. Prior work has investigated the differences in specific platforms. However, we still lack a deeper understanding of how code changes evolve across different software platforms. In this paper, we present a study aiming at investigating the frequency of changes and how source code, build and test changes co-evolve in mobile and non-mobile platforms. We developed regression models to explain which factors influence the frequency of changes and applied the Apriori algorithm to find types of changes that frequently co-occur. Our findings show that non-mobile repositories have a higher number of commits per month and our regression models suggest that being mobile significantly impacts on the number of commits in a negative direction when controlling for confound factors, such as code size. We also found that developers do not usually change source code files together with build or test files. We argue that our results can provide valuable information for developers on how changes are performed in different platforms so that practices adopted in successful software systems can be followed. Mesh upsampling and morphing is a challenging problem due to the irregularity and sparseness of the 3D data. Unlike 2D grid of pixels, 3D points do not have any regular structure and spatial order. In this paper, we present an efficient mesh upsampling and morphing technique. The proposed technique does not not require training and does not rely on any particular upsampling model. The key idea is to select and process each mesh triangle based on a heuristic criteria to define the 3D coordinate of a new point. An interactive mesh morphing technique is also introduced to test the effectiveness of the mesh upsampling algorithm. We perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to evaluate the performance of our proposed technique. Our empirical results show that our upsampled points have better uniformity and are located closer to the underlying surfaces. The computational time analysis demonstrates that the proposed technique is very efficient. The average mesh upsampling time is only 2.11sec which makes the proposed technique suitable for real time applications. To further demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed technique, we evaluate it for a novel task of facial rejuvenation prediction and report our preliminary results in this paper. © 2018 IEEE.

How will I look afterwards? is a common question asked by the patients undergoing a cosmetic procedure. Cosmetic practitioners at present can only offer subjective and descriptive replies. This subjective prediction is a serious concern for patients undergoing cosmetic treatment and therefore necessitates the development of automatic techniques for facial quantification. This paper proposes a novel machine learning approach to quantify and predict the outcome of 3D facial rejuvenation prior to actual cosmetic procedure. The facial rejuvenation prediction results are achieved by estimating the dermal filler volume in 3D faces. This involves estimation of structural changes in 3D face images and to learn underlying structural mapping. Our preliminary experimental results show that the proposed model achieves superior prediction accuracy on real world dataset compared to baseline methods. The computational time analysis shows that the proposed technique is very efficient (at test time) which makes it suitable for real time applications. © 2018 IEEE.

A Natural Language Interface (NLI) facilitates users to pose queries to retrieve information from a database without using any artificial language such as the Structured Query Language (SQL). Several applications in various domains including healthcare, customer support and search engines, require elaborating structured data having information on text. Moreover, many issues have been explored including configuration complexity, processing of intensive algorithms, and popularity of relational databases, due to which translating natural language to database query has become a secondary area of investigation. The emerging trend of querying systems and speech-enabled interfaces revived natural language to database queries research area., The last survey published on this topic was six years ago in 2013. To best of our knowledge, there is no recent study found which discusses the current state of the art translations frameworks for natural language for structured and non-structured query languages. In this paper, we have reviewed 47 frameworks from 2008 to 2018. Out of 47, 35 were closely relevant to our work. SQL based frameworks have been categorized as statistical, symbolic and connectionist approaches. Whereas, NoSQL based frameworks have been categorized as semantic matching and pattern matching. These frameworks are then reviewed based on their supporting language, scheme of their heuristic rule, interoperability support, dataset scope and their overall performance score. The findings stated that 70% of the work in natural language to database querying has been carried out for SQL, and NoSQL share 15%, 10% and 5% of languages like SPAROL, CYPHER and GREMLIN respectively. This paper presents a novel method for breast density classification in digital mammograms using multifractal spectrum and histogram analysis. The multifractal spectrum is used to capture fibroglandular texture features in sub-images extracted from the breast region of mammograms, and feature vectors extracted from multifractal spectrum are used to classify sub-images into fat or dense category and to calculate breast percent density. For enhancing texture features and improving classification accuracy of breast density, standard deviation and skewness analysis of histogram on mammograms are considered. A full-field digital mammography (FFDM) dataset INbreast is used to test our proposed method and experimental results of breast density estimation outperform other reported methods, giving a higher classification accuracy (83.33%).

Zeroconf protocol provides a solution to automatic IP address configuration. This paper focuses on quantitative performance analysis of zeroconf protocol. The analysis process contains two phrases: model construction and property verification. Since there exists competition relation among the hosts and their behaviors exhibit stochastic features, it is natural to model zeroconf protocol as turn-based stochastic game. Due to the absence of some necessary details of the original protocol, this paper also makes some assumptions about the model. The successful configuration probability and time cost are the most important concern of this protocol. This paper verifies maximum and minimum successful and unsuccessful configuration probabilities within certain periods. On the other hand, this paper also considers time cost to reach successful configuration. Experiments are performed with the tool PRISM-game which is for modeling and verification of stochastic games. Experimental results show that when the number of host is no more than 40,000, the performance of this protocol tends to be stable and when N is greater than 40,000, both the expected time cost for successful configuration and conflict probability will grow prominently. © 2018 IEEE.
