A compact microstrip line fed tapered-shaped slotted ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna is presented. The new design is composed of a rectangular slotted patch with a compact size of 21.44 × 23.53 mm 2 and fed by microstrip transmission line of 50 Ω. The proposed antenna is simulated onto a less expensive FR4 substrate which has a height of 1.6 mm. There achieved a wider bandwidth of 8.51 GHz (3.49-12 GHz) with good impedance matching, constant gain, 5.76 dBi of maximum gain and stable radiation pattern results in the proposed antenna more appropriate for using UWB communication applications compared to existing antennas. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated in HFSS and CST Microwave Studio software to see the antenna performance.

Recently, IPTV brings a lot of attraction because it is different from the traditional TV system in that it can provide the contents any time on users' demand. Many industries are starting new services based on IPTV expecting great growth of the market. From the static IPTV service, newer IPTV related service is considering openness. In Open IPTV, any user can send or receive the contents from another user, which means the customer can be the service provider at the same time. On top of the openness, mobility is another important concept to be considered in the IPTV industry. With the mobility and the openness, IPTV service has newer technical and security issues for reliable services. In this work, we propose a mutual authentication mechanism required between content provider and receiver. For communication, two users need to authenticate each other. Because of the openness and the mobility, the mechanism should be lightweight and dynamic. We have adopted Visual Cryptography and Steganography concept for efficient and lightweight authentication.

Multi-level-cell (MLC) phase-change memory (PCM) provides higher storage density at the cost of slower reads and writes. Since reads are latency critical, this paper propose a simple and effective bit mapping scheme, called Mapping Critical Word to MSBs (MCWM), to address slow reads in MLC. MCWM takes advantage of fast read speed of most-significant-bits (MSBs) of MLC cells and strips a cache line among MLC cells at the bit level. Taking 2- bit MLC as an example, MCWM stores the first half of each cache line at most-significant-bits (MSBs) of MLC cells, and the second half at least-significant-bits (LSBs). This design leverages the observation that most critical words are located within the first half of a cache line. Upon a cache miss, the critical word can be fetched at the same speed as single-level cell (SLC) PCM, thus reducing processor stall time. Experimental results under 4-cores SPEC CPU 2006 workloads show that MCWM can reduce memory read latency by 27.5% and IPC by 13.7% on average, compared with conventional PCM. In addition, MCWM outperforms recently proposed Striped PCM (SPCM) by 12.5% in latency and 6.1% in IPC on average. Additionally, MCWM is complementary to write optimizations. MCWM can reduce read latency of Write Pause by 25% and increase IPC by 11.7% on average.

With the ever expanding mobile device ecosystem, mobile users face a vast and constantly growing application pool. At the same time, in our daily life, waiting occurs regularly at different places such as shopping centers, where mobile applications become the de facto means to consume the time periods. In this paper, we propose a novel application recommendation system that utilizes human activity information at different places, to better match the applications with the characteristics of the users current contexts. Specifically, we design a place/application matching model and present two application list recommending algorithms with bounded approximation ratio. We also implement the recommendation system on real mobile phones and conduct field studies to show its feasibility. Our experimental and simulation results show that the proposed schemes can achieve satisfactory results.

As software systems play an increasingly important role in our lives, their complexity continues to increase. The increased complexity of software systems makes the assurance of their quality very difficult. Therefore, a significant amount of recent research focuses on the prioritization of software quality assurance efforts. One line of work that has been receiving an increasing amount of attention for over 40 years is software defect prediction, where predictions are made to determine where future defects might appear. Since then, there have been many studies and many accomplishments in the area of software defect prediction. At the same time, there remain many challenges that face that field of software defect prediction. The paper aims to accomplish four things. First, we provide a brief overview of software defect prediction and its various components. Second, we revisit the challenges of software prediction models as they were seen in the year 2000, in order to reflect on our accomplishments since then. Third, we highlight our accomplishments and current trends, as well as, discuss the game changers that had a significant impact on software defect prediction. Fourth, we highlight some key challenges that lie ahead in the near (and not so near) future in order for us as a research community to tackle these future challenges.

Sensing systems are moving out of the laboratory and into the real world, where they are being applied in a growing range of application scenarios. In order to increase effectiveness and efficacy as well as the return on investment, sensor systems must increasingly become easily reconfigurable and adjustable, in order to support system evolution and optimization. Currently, software technologies for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) lack the feature of dynamic sensing. This proposed project tackles the critical problem of developing software technologies and specifically middleware support that reduces the complexity of developing and managing dynamic sensing systems. Achieving this vision within the resource constraints of contemporary systems requires a radical rethinking of classic middleware design and the development of a suite of efficient supporting tools. This paper presents our on-going research which focuses on enhancing the component model along with features of dynamic sensing, with innovative components implemented based on the middleware platform LooCI (The Loosely-coupled Component Infrastructure), which has gained widespread popularity. Technological outcomes of this research will be validated in the domain of logistics, but their applications can be extended to various industrial areas.

Background: software is an important asset for organizations and development teams. It must evolve over time in order to meet different changes in its environment, satisfy the developers' needs, and adapt to new requirements. software developers and team members face difficulties tracking the changes others made to their software. software visualization is one of the effective techniques that help stakeholders to better understand how software evolves, and which parts of the software are most affected by the change. Many visualization tools and techniques have been introduced by researchers and organizations to facilitate such understanding. Method: This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on software evolution visualization (SEV) tools. The SLR's main focus is to: (1) explore the main target of SEV, (2) analyze the classifications and taxonomies that are used to represent SEV tools, and (3) find out what are the main sources of information used to visualize software's evolution. Result: 29 papers were analyzed out of 55 papers. The result showed that SEV tools can be classified into five different groups: graph-based, notation-based, matrix-based, and metaphor-based and others. Graph-based are most popular while Notation-based are the least. SEVs focus can be either Artifact-centric visualization, Metric-centric visualization, Feature-centric visualization, or Architecture-centric visualization. The main source of information used to ex-tract information are the software repositories. Conclusion: This work can help developer, maintainer, researcher to get good knowledge about the state of software evolution and visualization as a whole.

Radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting is a promising technique to energize low power electronic devices due to the sustainability it could offer resulting from the surge in ambient wireless signals it could utilize. In this paper, a concise literature survey on this technique is presented. Firstly, the architecture of a RF energy harvesting network is briefly introduced. Secondly, background relating to the antenna and rectifier designs is provided. Finally, some state-of-the-art designs from recent years are presented.

Eliciting requirements in their real-world contexts and creating and transforming visual models which can help lead to early designs of software is a challenging and time-consuming step in software engineering processes. In order to support the creation of these models and generate artifacts useful for software designs, we have developed the Problem-to-Design tool (PROD) based on Jackson's Problem Frames approach. The tool has been inspired by the work in the behavior-driven development community, which recommends that testing codes be generated as early as in the requirements engineering phase. The tool provides an open portal where multiple stakeholders can draw their own problem diagrams online, which can be used to generate use case narratives and testing codes for further behavior-driven development.

In order to meet the different data browsing requests for different users to the visual quality of remote sensing images in heterogeneous network especially under narrow bandwidth environments, an online remote sensing image progressive transmission model is constructed in which remote sensing image compression and decompression are synchronized with transmission. At the same time, a pipeline-based multi-threaded acceleration method has been proposed through solving the asynchronous problem between compression decompression and transmission to improve the efficiency of remote sensing progressive transmission. At last, an idea of retry broken downloads transmission interruption has been implemented to improve end-user interactive experience. Experimental results show that the whole processing speed has been improved nearly twice without reducing image transmission quality and the amount of data transmission was reduced evidently by using the proposed progressive transmission and real-time compression model. © 2016 SERSC.
