Leakage-resilient public key encryption (PKE) schemes are designed to resist "memory attacks", i.e., the adversary recovers the cryptographic key in the memory adaptively, but subject to constraint that the total amount of leaked information about the key is bounded by some parameter λ. Among all the IND-CCA2 leakage-resilient PKE proposals, the leakage-resilient version of the Cramer-Shoup cryptosystem (CS-PKE), referred to as the KL-CS-PKE scheme proposed by Naor and Segev in Crypto09, is the most practical one. But, the key leakage parameter λ and plaintext length m of KL-CS-PKE are subject to λ + m ≤ log q - ω(log κ), where κ is security parameter and q is the prime order of the group on which the scheme is based. Such a dependence between λ and m is undesirable. For example, when λ (resp., m) approaches to log q, m (resp., λ) approaches to 0. In this paper, we designed a new variant of CS-PKE that is resilient to key leakage chosen ciphertext attacks. Our proposal is λ ≤ log q - ω(log κ) leakage-resilient, and the leakage parameter λ is independent of the plaintext space that has the constant size q (exactly the same as that in CS-PKE). The performance of our proposal is almost as efficient as the original CS-PKE. As far as we know, this is the first leakage-resilient CS-type cryptosystem whose plaintext length is independent of the key leakage parameter, and is also the most efficient IND-CCA2 PKE scheme resilient to up to log q - ω(log κ) leakage. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Server clustering is a common design principle employed by many organisations who require high availability, scalability and easier management of their infrastructure. Servers are typically clustered according to the service they provide whether it be the application(s) installed, the role of the server or server accessibility for example. In order to optimize performance, manage load and maintain availability, servers may migrate from one cluster group to another making it difficult for server monitoring tools to continuously monitor these dynamically changing groups. Server monitoring tools are usually statically configured and with any change of group membership requires manual reconfiguration, an unreasonable task to undertake on large-scale cloud infrastructures. In this paper we present the Cloudlet Control and Management System (C2MS), a system for monitoring and controlling dynamic groups of physical or virtual servers within cloud infrastructures. The C2MS extends Ganglia - an open source scalable system performance monitoring tool - by allowing system administrators to define, monitor and modify server groups without the need for server reconfiguration. In turn administrators can easily monitor group and individual server metrics on large-scale dynamic cloud infrastructures where roles of servers may change frequently. Furthermore, we complement group monitoring with a control element allowing administrator-specified actions to be performed over servers within service groups as well as introduce further customized monitoring metrics. This paper outlines the design, implementation and evaluation of the C2MS.

The development of personalized recommendation systems has been an interesting research topic after the rapid evolution in social networking sites. In this paper, we propose a recommendation system using Learning automata (LA) and sentiment analysis. LA is used to optimize the recommendation score produced by the proposed system using sentiment analysis. The proposed Learning Automata-Based Sentiment Analysis System (LASA) recommends the places nearby the current location of the users by analyzing the feedback from the places and thus calculating the score based on it. Experiments performed by us indicate that by using LA, we can improve the performance of the proposed system, and, thus, help a user to find a specific location according to the need.

In this paper, we describe an optimization method based on differential evolution (DE). It shows good convergence properties with few parameters. However, the appropriate selection of the parameters is a difficult task. Hence, we here analyze the performance indexes of the DE algorithm to set the control parameters. Moreover, to identify the best parameter intervals, the DE approach is first compared to two different Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms and then to a recent adaptive genetic algorithm (DABGA). The optimization of benchmark functions shows that the DE algorithm performs better than PSO and DABGA methods.

The proper composition of activities is important for the efficient execution of a workflow process. In this paper, an approach is presented that utilizes the data-flow underlying a workflow process to determine the importance and semantic relatedness of the various, elementary data-processing steps. Based on these aspects, fundamental guidelines are proposed to drive and objectify the task of activity composition in the context of workflow design. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In social based Web services systems, some resources gain popularity while others do not. It would be valuable if we can predict the popularity of certain resource. In this work, we study the recipe popularity prediction problem using the Yelp dataset. We investigate various features that can be extracted and help to improve the performance. In particular, we propose to do the sentiment analysis over the reviews and treat the sentimental scores as one of the features. A polynomial regression model is developed to predict the recipe popularity. The experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms the baseline method.

In this paper we will describe a modification of the matrix factorization (MF) algorithm which allows visualizing the user and item characteristics. When applying MF for collaborative filtering, we get a model that represents the attributes of users and items by feature vectors. Some elements of these vectors may have understandable meaning for humans but due to the lack of internal connections between the feature vectors, these are difficult to visualize. In this paper we give a detailed description of a MF method enabling better visualization of features by arranging them into a 2D map, where via the calculation of the feature values we try to position features with similar 'meaning' close to each other. To achieve this first we define a neighborhood relation on features, then we modify the MF so that we introduce a new term in the error function which penalize the difference between the neighbor features. We show that this modification slightly decrease the accuracy of the model but we get well visualized feature maps. On the feature maps meanings can be associated with regions, and so we can provide an interesting explanation for the user why he/she was recommended the movie. Such plausible explanations may result in that users will better understand how the system works, which can also increase customer loyalty towards the service provider. © 2013 IEEE.

Human Mobility Models (HMMs) have become increasingly relevant in different application domains including networks designed for data dissemination protocols. Most existing HMMs consider the temporal and spatial features of human mobility. In addition, many recent HMMs based on social networks have begun to take into account social factors, which naturally influence the results of the HMMs. Unfortunately, these mobility models do not focus on the impact of several important social factors that can affect a person's actions, such as language, citizenship, and culture. This paper introduces a hybrid human mobility model that integrates social behavior, cultural and language factors into HMMs in order to measure their effect on human mobility, as well as temporal and spatial features. Results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model.

The software Assurance Metrics and Tool Evaluation (SAMATE) project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has organized four Static Analysis Tool Expositions (SATE). SATE is designed to advance research in static analysis tools that find security-relevant defects in source code. Briefly, participating tool makers run their tools on a set of programs. Researchers led by NIST analyze the tool outputs. The results and experiences are reported at a workshop. These expositions have accumulated large amounts of data. This collection allowed for the development and validation of practical metrics in regard to static analysis tool effectiveness and independence. In this paper, we discuss the role of the data in determining which metrics can be derived. Specifically, we detail the three characteristics test data should exhibit and explain why the data we use express each combination of two out of these three properties.

The physiotherapy and rehabilitation process is an expensive and time consuming affair. It also requires the direct supervision of the specialists for effective results. This high cost coupled with high demand prohibits many patients from receiving appropriate care. Moreover, the emotional and mental strain is excessive for patients and is counterproductive to the therapy. In this paper, we tackle the boredom aspect of the rehabilitation process wherein we develop a therapy system that uses computer games to emulate the therapeutic activities. We describe, in some details, the issues involved in the development process. Commercial of the shelf product is employed (the Xbox Kinect) so the cost is significantly reduced and the accessibility is greatly increased. The system was tested on children at a local hospital, and the feedback was highly encouraging. This work opens avenues for more research to be conducted in exercise development, movement emulation, and game design. Moreover, commercialization of these games is an interesting endeavor.
