As VLSI technology scales into sub-65 nm realm, the complexity of timing optimization is drastically increased by the consideration of power and variations. Even though designers make great efforts during physical design, they are often faced with still heavy timing violations in deep post-routing stages. For the entire design convergence and timing closure, especially under current multi-corner multi-mode design, some more efficient methods need to be invented. In this work, we propose to address such a kind of issue by exploiting useful clock skew, which can help reduce timing violations rapidly. We also add mode/corner metric balancing measurements to make this method more flexible and applicable especially in such deep stages while the CTS is ready. The results indicate that our method can achieve an average improvements of 33.16% on the worst slack (WS) and 75.56% on the total negative slack (TNS), respectively.

Shielding of buried three phase high voltage cables can be done by placing the cables in conducting ferromagnetic U-shaped gutters covered by plates. In case of a perfect electrical contact between adjacent gutters and between adjacent cover plates, the induced currents in the shield efficiently reduce the field generated in the vicinity of the cables. However, as a perfect contact cannot be guaranteed, it is useful to quantify the effect of a bad electrical contact on the shielding performance. From 2D FEM, 3D FEM and experiments, it is observed that a bad contact does not influence significantly the shielding if the axial length of the plates is relatively long compared to their other dimensions.

In force controlled industrial robots, haptic and telemanipulation devices stability and control performance are contradicting requirements. In distributed systems where the sensors, actuators and control logic are separated in space, due to the network delays the control process may become unstable. In our research, we consider the coupled impedance type control algorithms as common used method in telemanipulation and interaction control of robots. In this paper, an extended TP model transformation is proposed to convert the delayed system into a polytopic tensor product (TP) model considering the value of the feedback delay as a parameter. Using such model, controller design become tractable as it does not contain feedback delay. A numerical example for a single degree of freedom impedance model with feedback delay is discussed. The results are confirmed by simulation.

Robust fault detection and diagnosis for uncertain nonlinear systems

This paper considers robust fault detection and diagnosis for input uncertain nonlinear systems. It proposes a multi-objective fault detection criterion so that the fault residual is sensitive to the fault but insensitive to the uncertainty as much as possible. Then the paper solves the proposed criterion by maximizing the smallest singular value of the transformation from faults to fault detection residuals while minimizing the largest singular value of the transformation from input uncertainty to the fault detection residuals. This method is applied to an aircraft which has a fault in the left elevator or rudder. The simulation results show the proposed method can detect the control surface failures rapidly and efficiently.

This study is concerned with the influence of computer monitors on office productivity. A monitor is a kind of bottleneck in an office workstation that limits the exchange of information between a worker and the computer. This study uses experiments to show that the effect of the monitor on productivity is serious, especially for creative types of work. The amount of information a worker actually needs is small compared with all of the information displayed on the monitor, and software called HiDi is proposed here to enable the user to display the contents of an application that the worker needs. HiDi is application independent free form and compatible with existing task management systems and visualization techniques.

Scenes with cast shadows can produce complex sets of images. These images cannot be well approximated by low-dimensional linear subspaces. However, in this paper we show that the set of images produced by a Lambertian scene with cast shadows can be efficiently represented by a sparse set of images generated by directional light sources. We first model an image with cast shadows as composed of a diffusive part (without cast shadows) and a residual part that captures cast shadows. Then, we express the problem in an 1- regularized least squares formulation, with nonnegativity constraints. This sparse representation enjoys an effective and fast solution, thanks to recent advances in compressive sensing. In experiments on both synthetic and real data, our approach performs favorably in comparison to several previously proposed methods. ©2009 IEEE.

We present a process-oriented approach to specify personality- based behaviors in agents. The main aim is to make the agents able to reason about their choices following a preferred reasoning strategy according to a personality type. With this method, the decision-making of the agent becomes flexible enough to be reused in different scenarios while staying consistent with the used psychological theory. Current workflow products can support more complex modeling of business processes, workflow engine mechanism is well researched, but the link between organizational elements and process activities is less well understood. In access control, most products can only support fixed role-based task assignment, not enough in considering more complex security policies, such as DSOD, task binding of duties, and temporal constraints, that important in dynamic workflow system. This paper examines workflow access control requirement in practice, analyzes WFMC workflow meta-model, and adopts the R&TBAC approach to separate role-based organization and task-based authorization-step modeling, and especially designs an agent-based dynamic policy enforcement mechanism to bridge the gap. The intelligent task assigning agent to be defined as a virtual participant in workflow process definition, and creating within workflow engine controlled available task instance, acts as to evaluate task dynamic authorization policy to provide eligible task participant role-set based on its information model. This paper gives a formal specification of the workflow authorization model, and designs the agent information model, assigning policy model, and function model in detail. The modeling approach can widely adapt to various existing workflow systems and can automatically change policy as enterprise organization or business process definition need changing. ©2009 IEEE.

GIS data source stored in file is difficult to establish a fast indexing, inefficient to access the data between different files and to migrate from one source to another. In order to achieve GIS data stored in file synchronizing and sharing, using object cloning to realize data access and migration between different sources is discussed based on the GIS platform of AutoCAD Map. And the method of object cloning in three aspects, i.e. feasibility, code complexity, integrity, is compared with the traditional ones (the methods of redrawing and object copying) on object migration. Experimental result shows that the method of object cloning is better than the traditional ones. © 2009 IEEE.

Over the last years significant effort has been made to improve the performance of speech recognition. The Fisher Kernel has been suggested as good ways to combine and underlying generative model in the feature space and discriminant classifiers such as SVMs. Chinese name speech patterns are difficult to be classified especially when they are similar in pronunciation. Continuous density hidden Markov model(CHMM) is state-of-the-art method to process this difficulty. A procedure was proposed in this paper to derive the Fisher score from CHMM, and compare it with traditional generative models and Gaussian mixture model(GMM) based Fisher score in Chinese name speech recognition. The result shows that CHMM based Fisher score classified by SVMs receives the best performance. © 2009 IEEE.
