Japan in 1968. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Kyoto university Japan in 1992 and 1994 respectively. From 1994 to 1998 he was a Research Associate in the Department of Information Technology Okayama University. Since April 1998 he has been a Research Associate in the Graduate School of Informatics Kyoto University. His current research interests include robust control and control system design via mathematical programming. Yutaka Yamamoto received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Kyoto University
Kyoto Japan in 1972 and 1974 respectively and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Florida in 1976 and 1978 respectively. From 1978 to 1987 he was with Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics Kyoto University and from 1987 to 1997 with Department of Applied System Science. Since 1998 he is a professor at the current position. His current research interests include realization and robust control of distributed parameter systems learning control sampled-data systems and digital signal processing. Dr. Yamamoto is a receipient of the Sawaragi memorial paper award (1985) the Outstanding Paper Award of SICE (1987) Best Author Award of SICE (1990) the George Axelby Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE CSS in 1996 Takeda Paper Prize of SICE in 1997. He is a Fellow of IEEE. He was an associate editor of Automatica. He is currently an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control Systems and Control Letters and Mathematics of Control Signals and Systems. He is a member of the IEEE the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE) and the Institute of Systems Control and Information Engineers.

This paper presents a design method of control systems such that a designer can flexibly take account of tradeoffs between evaluated uncertainty ranges and the level of control performance. The problem is reduced to a BMI problem and approximately solved by LMIs. The convergence of the proposed approximation is proved in a modified sense. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with the standard robust control.

The paper presents a new design method for low-cost fuzzy control systems used in mechatronics, characterized by second-order dynamics of integral type, controlled by two-degree-of-freedom Pi-fuzzy controllers. The method, referred to as delta domain design, consists of three design steps based on continuous-time linear case design results expressed in terms of the Extended Symmetrical Optimum method applied in the delta domain, followed by the transfer of these results to the fuzzy case. The new design method and Mamdani Pi-fuzzy controllers are validated by real-time experiments in controlling a nonlinear servosystem.

This communication's aim is to present an International experience in new Curriculum Development from the perspective of the new challenges for Higher Education in Europe, and with an interdisciplinary approach to content design. Bearing in mind the depicted future for the High Education Area in Europe, it is important to have the opportunity to learn from existing experiences. It is in this sense that this paper reports some important facts and rationales regarding both the development and the management of a Curriculum Development project, as well as the innovative features with respect to the curriculum's contents. Even though there exists a useful compendium on issues to be taken into account when facing a joint master's programme definition [1], this experience born out of an interdisciplinary consortium may provide interesting distinctive features and special added value for both the curriculum and engineering education. In a more concise way, this paper will present a) Body of knowledge of the master, envisioned as an interdisciplinary curriculum where synergies on both knowledge and procedures are intended to provide an added value. b) How the curriculum is structured and the main points identified as valuable for an International European Master programme. c) Management structures and information flows adopted, described from a management point of view.

It is a developing job to distinguish identifications with information fusion of fingerprints and palm prints. It is also a very effective way to resolve the problem of low identification rate and low stability of single biology characteristic identification. Based on the theory of fuzzy logic theory, we bring out the method of obfuscating weigh coefficient and reliability to fuse the information of fingerprints and palm prints to realize high identification rate. The experiment proves the feasibility and effectiveness of this method and the identification rate can be more than 90%, which contributes useful experience to the research of identification using biology characteristics.

The key to the wavelet based denoising teehniquea is how to manipulate the wavelet coefficients. By referring to the idea of Inclusive-OR in the design of circuits, this paper proposes a new algorithm called wavelet domain Inclusive-OR denoising algorithm(WDIDA), which distinguishes the wavelet coefficients belonging to image or noise by considering their phases and modulus maxima simultaneously. Using this new algorithm, the denoising effects are improved and the computation time is reduced. Furthermore, in order to enhance the edges of the image but not magnify noise, a contrast nonlinear enhancing algorithm is presented according to human visual properties. Compared with traditional enhancing algorithms, the algorithm that we proposed has a better noise reducing performanee , preserving edges and improving the visual quality of images.

An adaptive target queue length (ATQL) adjustment algorithm proposed in this paper cooperates with certain Active Queue Management (AQM) controllers to achieve more efficient buffer management for Internet congestion control. ATQL algorithm which estimates the average traffic load and dynamically adjusts the target queue length in dynamic traffic environment can be easily embedded into a series of AQM controllers. By engaging ATQL, AQM controllers are more suited to random and unpredictable traffic scenarios. Simulations are applied to validate ATQL's ability in assisting AQM controllers in sustaining stable drop probability, minimizing unnecessary packet loss, guaranteeing the link utility and maximizing the exploitation of buffer spaces.
