Congestion control design in TCP has primarily focused on maximizing throughput, reducing delay, or minimizing packet loss. Such has been the case in the surge of TCP approaches using machine and deep learning. However, flow completion time, average throughput, and fairness index are the key performance indicators more noticeable to users and used for applications, and thus must be evaluated. We theorize, that an ideal congestion control scheme would have a small average flow completion time, and high average throughput and high fairness index. We aim to analyze the performance of a wide-variety of congestion control schemes to determine the importance of these metrics in designing a congestion control scheme. With this objective, we propose a modified reinforcement learning version of TCP; RL-TCP+, to demonstrate how flow completion time can be minimized and to evaluate it’s impact on bandwidth sharing. Through extensive experimentation, we show that greater link-sharing and fairness do not always result in lower flow completion time, and that flow-prioritization could prove beneficial in certain scenarios.

Vehicle Make and Model Recognition (VMMR) is a pivotal task in various domains including surveillance, traffic management, and the automotive industry. Despite significant progress in deep learning approaches, existing VMMR systems still struggle to attain robust accuracy, particularly across diverse environments and viewing angles. In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on the fusion of two feature maps extracted from DenseNet201 and ResNet50V2 baseline models, respectively. Additionally, we employ a modified Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to enhance the resilience and precision of VMMR systems. By incorporating attention mechanisms in the feature extraction process, our modified CBAM model effectively captures both spatial and channel-wise dependencies, facilitating more potent discriminative feature representations. We assess our proposed approach through extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets namely Stanford Cars and CompCarsSV. Achieved accuracies are 93.51% and 99.03%, on Stanford Cars and CompCarsSV, respectively that are better than past methods. The technology of reconfigurable optical networks (RONs) is growing to be a promising solution to effectively cater to the rapidly increasing traffic generated by the digital society. Optical technology emerges as a viable alternative because to its capacity to offer a substantial bandwidth, little latency, and enhanced overall performance. Nevertheless, it is imperative to effectively manage the physical resources comprising a data center. This study provides an experimental demonstration of the RONs, which is enhanced by a control plane. The implementation relies on the monitoring of real-time network statistics. This enables the execution of various activities, including as network slice provisioning and reconfiguration, assignment of packet priority classes, and dynamic operations. These actions are performed to ensure the attainment of the desired Quality of Service level. The experimental results show the successfully implementation of RONs using Mininet Emulator and sFlow traffic monitoring technology. The results approve that optical datacenter has minimum delay with low OSNR even with long distance and fast switching time. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper proposes to change the bit-dept. of the original data sequence as a preprocessing of the measuring data, which is carried out before the compression procedure. In this case the digit capacity conversion is performed without accounting for the primary data sample boundaries. The simulation was carried out in the Matlab software environment. The findings of the authors' research are presented. They prove to be a promising approach for some types of the studied data at least and several digit capacity values. The analysis of autocorrelation function values showing the data correlation revealed by the conversion is used as an assessment of perspective of the active conversion. In this article the authors review the values of secondary maximums of autocorrelation function. Their occurrence shows the demonstration of the implied correlative correspondence. Such correlations can potentially allow the converted data to be compressed more effectively than the original data using the known compression methods. © 2022 IEEE.

This study addresses the effect of climate conditions on treatment effectiveness and energy consumption in a conventional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). It has been observed that winter temperatures below 12°C produce a deterioration of pollutants elimination and energy efficiency in the activated sludge process (ASP). Then, in this work, variations of climatological conditions are considered, and ASP control parameters are modified, to evaluate their effect into the eco-efficiency of the WWTP operation. The eco-efficiency of the operation is analyzed from a plant-wide perspective considering the effects on different units of the plant. The Benchmark Simulation Model 2 (BSM2), that represents a typical WWTP, is selected for simulations. Introduction of seasonal temperature effects on ASP control strategy are contemplated for future work.

The process of treatment of industrial water by the magnetic method has been considered in the work. An installation for complex iron removal that allows using a number of parameters to control the process has been developed. The structural scheme of relationships of parameters of the process has been received on the basis of the conducted researches, and further, it has been described by dependence. A conducted computer experiment showed that the process of iron removal from industrial water is not significantly affected by the flow velocity of the fluid. © 2020 IEEE.

The paper shows the process of developing a model of multistage evaporator station of a sugar factory based on a neural network. The neural network predicts the main performance indicators of the multistage evaporator station, such as the concentration of syrup at the output of the evaporator and the amount of evaporated water at the station. Unlike existing solutions, forecasting is performed in real time based on a set of indicators of the automation system (temperatures, flow rates, levels, pressure, density in the apparatus) and industrial laboratory (concentration of solids at the inlet to the evaporation station). The proposed neural network model has an MLP structure with 27 inputs, 2 outputs and one hidden layer with 20 neurons and predicts these indicators with an error of less than 5%. This allows to increase the informative support of the operator-technologist on the quality indicators of the enterprise without additional load on the industrial laboratory and without additional cost automatic quality devices, as well as to perform timely adjustment of the technological mode of the department. © 2022 IEEE.

We study the problem of global asymptotic stability preservation (GASP) for $C^{0}$ non-smoothly stabilizable systems with input delay under sampled-data feedback. With the aid of Halanay inequality and the notion of homogeneity, the following sampled-data control results are established under a fast sampling: 1) GAS is preservable if the nonlinear system is homogeneous of degree zero and globally asymptotically stabilizable by homogeneous feedback; 2) As a consequence, GAS via sampled-data feedback is achieved for a class of non-smoothly stabilizable systems with input delay in a lower-triangular or upper-triangular form.

The DC link capacitor discharge in the event of a DC fault is rapid and contains high frequencies. This rapid discharge of high current and frequency interface with DC bus, Voltage Source Converter (VSC), and AC source. This interface damages the equipment and possibly living beings in proximity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a topology to detect and identify fault types promptly, along with the isolation and restoration of the system. This study introduces an improved novel fault detection technique using the Highpass Chebyshev type 2 filter due to its flatter pass-band response. Further, the polarities of peaks obtained from the fault detection calculation are used again for another proposed novel fault location method. It identifies fault types to locate and isolate the faulty system using only polarities of amplitude response peaks. In the simulation, both methods were fast and accurate in detecting, locating, and identifying appropriate fault types only by High Pass Filter (HPF) amplitude response peaks and their polarities.

The advent of smart manufacturing in Industry 4.0 signifies the arrival of the era of connections. As an excellent communication protocol, Object linking and embedding for Process Control Unified Architecture (OPC UA) can address most semantic heterogeneity issues. However, its semantics are not formally defined at the application layer. To address the information silo problem caused by semantic heterogeneity, a method named Querying of Ontology Mapping-based OPC UA (QOMOU) is proposed. It extracts the information models of OPC UA servers into resource description framework triples, utilizes web ontology language for semantic enrichment and inference, and employs a semantic similarity model for event ontology mapping to improve query efficiency. The method's effectiveness is validated through functional queries using the SPARQL protocol in Apache Jena. The query efficiency is 5% higher on average compared to both structured query and extensible markup languages. Moreover, by employing a keyword-matching algorithm, the query accuracy of the existing heterogeneous data integration scheme is improved by 4% on average. This enhancement can boost the operational efficiency of Internet of Things systems based on the OPC UA architecture.
