We propose a low-complexity downlink channel covariance matrix estimation for massive multiple-input multiple-output systems in which the base station (BS) is equipped with a uniform rectangular antenna array (URA). This scheme can be expressed in the form of an affine transformation which depends only on the uplink and downlink carrier frequencies, and the BS array configurations. An upper bound on the estimation error is derived, which shows that the accuracy of the proposed scheme increases with the number of URA antennas and the compactness and differentiability class of the periodic extension of a non-linearly transformed version of the angular power spread. The performance superiority of the proposed scheme over its existing counterparts is confirmed through simulations.

The recent and emerging introduction of generative AI in all areas of society poses new challenges to be overcome, particularly in the educational setting. The intimate and affective relationship that may develop between students and generative AI devices raises critical questions about the psychological and emotional impact of such interactions. This issue becomes particularly significant when the interactions with AI-based systems begin at an early age, and these systems assume roles as digital tutors, digital secretaries, motivator agents, and/or mentors. The aim of this work in progress was to address a recent challenge within the digital educational context: the psychological and emotional impact that the introduction of AI-based systems in digital education may have on students. However, we have faced limitations in terms of data availability and resources, particularly when addressing the issue from early ages, where there is a notable lack of studies. Although the results may not have been significant, the research has provided a general overview and a solid theoretical foundation for future studies in this field. Therefore, we suggest conducting more rigorous studies with representative samples and complete data, alongside developing reliable and validated methodologies and assessment tools to address the issues involved.

We propose a new model for dimensionality reduction, the PCA tree, which works like a regular autoencoder, having explicit projection and reconstruction mappings. The projection is effected by a sparse oblique tree, having hard, hyperplane splits using few features and linear leaves. The reconstruction mapping is a set of local linear mappings. Thus, rather than producing a global map as in t-SNE and other methods, which often leads to distortions, it produces a hierarchical set of local PCAs. The use of a sparse oblique tree and of PCA in its leaves makes the overall model interpretable and very fast to project or reconstruct new points. Joint optimization of all the parameters in the tree is a nonconvex nondifferentiable problem. We propose an algorithm that is guaranteed to decrease the error monotonically and which scales to large datasets without any approximation. In experiments, we show PCA trees are able to identify a wealth of low-dimensional and cluster structure in image and document datasets.

With the rising incidents of harassment and violence in India, particularly against women, this paper presents a real-time violence detection system using YOLO image detection models (YOLOv7, YOLOv8, and YOLOv9). The models were trained on a carefully curated and manually annotated dataset using Roboflow, ensuring robust detection across diverse scenarios. Transfer learning and hyperparameter tuning were applied to improve accuracy. The system was evaluated using key performance metrics, including mean average precision (mAP), Intersection over Union (IoU), precision, and recall, achieving 80% precision and 50–60% recall. Extensive manual testing on real-world surveillance footage and additional video sources further validated its effectiveness. Results indicate that YOLOv8 outperforms other versions in balancing speed and accuracy. This system has strong potential for deployment in law enforcement, public surveillance, and safety-critical applications.
