The new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which triggered the COVID-19 pandemic, has had an unparalleled effect on economies, cultures, and world health. In response to the critical need for strict COVID-19 screening systems in public areas, this study presents a creative Secured Entry Control system. Detecting and controlling possible COVID-19 carriers attempting to enter the country is made possible by this system, which makes use of deep learning algorithms and IoT technology. The mask detection algorithm, MobileNetV2 model, has an exceptional validation accuracy of 98.96\%. The model's reliability is supported by performance evaluations using ROC curves, confusion matrix analysis, and an AUC value of 98.96\%, which is close to the optimal AUC score of 100\%. Because MobileNetV2 is well-suited for low-processing devices, it is easy to deploy it on Raspberry Pi, which helps to create an affordable system. Furthermore, by spotting increased body temperatures, a contactless temperature sensor improves the system's ability to identify possible COVID-19 carriers. The functioning of the system is confirmed by the working prototype that is presented in the Experimental Results section. The main goal of this research is to create an autonomous system that is affordable and selectively allows access to people who are less likely to transmit COVID-19 in public areas. To achieve the overall objective of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in public spaces, this research highlights the successful integration of mask identification algorithms and IoT. © 2024 IEEE.

Fake news continues to proliferate, posing an increasing threat to public discourse. The paper proposes a framework of a Mixture of Experts, Sentiment Analysis, and Sarcasm Detection experts for improved fake news detection. This approach captures the emotional cues in the text through a Sentiment Analysis expert, which is based on bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers (BERT) models with sentiment vectors generated using SentiWordNet and Integrated Gradients. It combines a sarcasm detection expert based on BERT, recognizing sarcasm and its type to help classify fake news. By fusing these experts through a Mixture of Experts gateway, subtle linguistic cues often found in fake news are more effectively analyzed, leading to improved accuracy in detecting misinformation. Experimental results are presented as 96% for the Sarcasm expert with the BERT base model and 83% for the Sentiment Analysis expert with the distilled version of the BERT (DistilBERT) base model, proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in beating traditional methods. © 2024 IEEE.

This research proposes a system as a solution for the challenges faced by Sri Lanka's historic railway system, such as scheduling delays, overcrowding, manual ticketing, and management inefficiencies. It proposes a multi-subsystem approach, incorporating GPS tracking, RFID-based e-ticketing, seat reservation, and vision-based people counting. The GPS-based real-time train tracking system performs accurately within 24 meters, with the MQTT protocol showing twice the speed of the HTTP-based system. All subsystems use the MQTT protocol to enhance efficiency, reliability, and passenger experience. The study's data and methodology demonstrate the effectiveness of these innovations in improving scheduling, passenger flow, and overall system performance, offering promising solutions for modernizing Sri Lanka's railway infrastructure. © 2024 IEEE.

The emerging trend of distributed and renewable energy sources encourages energy trading in the electricity market. Various forms of energy markets are evolving for successful energy trading. The local energy market is one of them in which various participants are actively coordinating for optimal utilization of power. Such type of local energy markets provides individual prosumers to trade their surplus energy in the neighbourhood in peer-to-peer topology. The complexity of such type of local energy market is increasing in terms of structure, control, coordination, and cost estimation. For the cooperative behaviour of the local energy markets, a dual auction coordination control scheme is important to encourage more prosumers for energy trading. We proposed a novel scheme that performs dual auctions for prosumers in a decentralized fashion. We assessed dual auction matching by coordinating prosumers and consumers to sell and purchase energy in the local energy market. The aggregator performed balancing in the proposed dual auction scheme as an autonomous entity. The results were simulated in MATLAB and JADE for the complex prosumer peer-to-peer network. Our proposed scheme shows each peer dual auction matching improves from 0.95 to 2.03 for optimal hierarchal energy trading in energy markets. For peer participation, the participation ratio increased from 0.684 to 1.74 and optimal aggregator coordination from 9.18% to 19% in the local energy markets. © 2023 IEEE.

This study aims to develop a reliable, non-invasive method for predicting early health issues through iridology by leveraging computer vision and deep learning techniques. Iridology, which involves the analysis of iris patterns, is explored for its potential to provide early indications of health conditions. The methodology involved capturing high-quality iris images using a specialized camera, followed by processing and analysis using advanced computer vision techniques. A deep learning model was implemented to detect early stages of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart diseases. The model achieved an average accuracy of 93.7%, demonstrating superior performance in precision, sensitivity, and specificity compared to other leading machine learning approaches. These findings suggest that the proposed method could serve as a robust tool for early health issue detection, with implications for enhancing public health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. © 2024 IEEE.

Advancements in medical imaging have paved the way for image-based computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) systems, revolutionizing the detection of lung abnormalities, including lung nodules and diffuse lung diseases. This paper explores the potential of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in image-based CADx without the reliance on image-feature extraction, presenting a powerful alternative to feature-based CADx methods. Additionally, we introduce an image-based computer-aided detection (CADe) algorithm employing regions with CNN features (R-CNN) for precise identification of lung abnormalities. We conduct comprehensive evaluations of our image-based CADx utilizing CNN and CADe employing R-CNN, demonstrating their effectiveness across various lung abnormalities. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes an Active-Clamp Forward-Flyback (ACFF) converter with three planar transformers to achieve 4 kW output power. As autonomous driving technology rapidly advances, the demand for higher output power from low-voltage DC-DC converters (LDC) in electric vehicles has significantly increased. Conventionally, two 2 kW ACFF converters with four magnetic cores connected in series-parallel have been used to meet 4 kW power requirement, but this configuration has proven inefficient in terms of size, power density, and cost. The proposed converter improves power density by integrating the four magnetic cores of the conventional 4 kW ACFF converter into three, reducing the overall magnetic volume and allowing for a more compact design. Furthermore, the use of planar magnetic components enables the winding to be embedded in a 4-layer PCB. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Ocular diseases, particularly diabetic retinopathy, are increasingly prevalent and necessitate precise detection methods. The proposed method, 'Deep Vision: Iris Segmentation for Diagnostic Insights in Iridology,' leverages deep learning for enhanced prediction of diabetes-related ocular conditions. Data from the diabetes-iridology dataset is pre-processed with Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) [1]. The Attenuation-based U-Net model [2] ensures precise iris segmentation. For improved classification, DenseNet [3], EfficientNet [4], and Capsule Networks (CapsNet) [5] are evaluated. The Python-based implementation achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 95.87% [6], demonstrating a substantial improvement over conventional method. This approach not only advances diagnostic performance but also sets a new benchmark for precision in ocular disease prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

Maintaining the health and production of mango farms depends on the early detection of illnesses in mango trees. Despite the vital role agriculture plays, it remains an industry receiving limited attention from the machine-learning community. A noteworthy challenge is the lack of standardized and openly accessible agricultural datasets, impeding researchers from fully leveraging the potential of advanced computational prediction tools. The study focuses on employing deep learning and image processing techniques for diagnosing prevalent mango leaf diseases in India. The goal is to enhance both the quality and quantity of agricultural production by implementing effective disease control measures upon identifying plant diseases. The automation of plant disease detection proves particularly beneficial, reducing the monitoring efforts required by large farms. Rapid identification of leaf diseases is crucial, given that leaves serve as a plant's primary source of nutrition. Notably, none of the seven different mango leaf illnesses that have been observed in India have ever been the subject of earlier research. In this study, we provide a lightweight Resnet50 model that can reliably classify healthy mango leaves and the seven discovered illnesses on mango leaves. The performance of our proposed lightweight Resnet-50 model is evaluated against many pre-trained models, such as Exception, Resnet101, and VGG16. The findings reveal that the lightweight Resnet-50 model achieves the highest testing accuracy, reaching an impressive 95%. This underscores the model's effectiveness in automating the identification of mango leaf diseases, offering a promising solution for improving agricultural practices in India. © 2024 IEEE.

Short message spam poses a significant threat for all mobile phone users, as it can act as an efficient tool for cyberattacks including spreading malware and phishing. Traditional anti-spam measures are only minimally effective against modern spammers. Intelligent analysis of the content to categorise the messages as Spam (unwanted and unsolicited) or Ham (useful messages) is therefore essential to safeguard the user from such attacks. Various artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are proving to be useful in the analysis of the content of such short messages to classify and filter spam. We have trained, validated and tested seven such AI techniques on the SMS spam collection dataset to identify the best model for designing and developing a content based classification system. Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) have shown the highest performance metrics (Test Accuracy: 99.28%) and hence our proposed system includes a RNN model for classification. A web app of this system has also been deployed where a single SMS can be input and the designed system can classify it as Spam or Ham. The designed system is compared against existing systems and is found to be significantly better. © 2024 IEEE.
