In this article, the problem of linear precoding and radar receive beamforming design for joint radar-communication (JRC) systems is studied. A multiple antenna base station (BS) that serves multiple single-antenna user terminals on the downlink is assumed. Furthermore, the BS employs a simultaneous radar function in the form of point-like target detection from the reflected return signals in a signal-dependent interference environment. In this work, we jointly design the JRC linear precoder and the radar receive beamformer, thus aiming to optimize the performance of the radar part while maintaining a desired quality of service (QoS) for the communication one subject to a total transmit power constraint. To that end, we formulate a challenging fractional nonconvex optimization problem via which the optimal precoder and radar receive beamformer are derived. Then, we develop algorithmic solutions based on the majorization-minimization (MM) principle and the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) methodology for the formulated optimization problem. The performance of both the proposed solutions is examined and compared to the one of a system that supports only the radar functionality via numerical results. © 2023 IEEE.

Public policy-making has a strong impact on our daily lives and on most of the aspects of our society including its relation with the environment. Sustainability as a global goal cannot be achieved without effective policies supporting it. The current trend in policy-making has two main pillars, policies are a) co-created with citizens and other relevant stakeholders and b) data-based to take informed decisions. Information technologies are needed to support these pillars and facilitate evidence-based policy-making. We present the DECIDO Portal that acts as a catalyst towards putting these general principles into practice gathering the technical components to be used within the whole policy life cycle. Notably, the portal lays its foundations on a well-defined co-creation methodology that can be seamlessly followed from a unique portal and provides best-practices for participatory processes and data-driven analyses. A set of real-world experimental policies in different countries serves as case studies to showcase and discuss the usage of the portal. © 2023 IEEE.

Convex Equilibrium-Free Stability and Performance Analysis of Discrete-Time Nonlinear systems

This paper considers the equilibrium-free stability and performance analysis of discrete-time nonlinear systems. We consider two types of equilibrium-free notions. Namely, the universal shifted concept, which considers stability and performance w.r.t. all equilibrium points of the system, and the incremental concept, which considers stability and performance between trajectories of the system. In this paper, we show how universal shifted stability and performance of discrete-time systems can be analyzed by making use of the time-difference dynamics. Moreover, we extend the existing results for incremental dissipativity for discrete-time systems based on dissipativity analysis of the differential dynamics to more general state-dependent storage functions for less conservative results. Finally, we show how both these equilibrium-free notions can be cast as a convex analysis problem by making use of the linear parameter-varying framework, which is also demonstrated by means of an example. Light field visualization commonly provides a single content over the entire field of view. However, the angularly-selective nature of the technology enables the simultaneous visualization of different contents at different viewing angles. Yet segmenting the valid viewing area comes with content interference as well in forms of separation zones, resulting invalid viewing domains. In this paper, we introduce a study on the separation zone of split-domain light field visualization. We created a static-content-based scenario in which we split the valid viewing area into two distinct domains, with a separation zone in between them. This was achieved by merging two light field contents in the middle with an instantaneous switch. The resulting visualization on a light field display was captured by a DSLR camera from two viewing distances, and it was compared to the crosstalk effect caused by insufficient angular resolution. © 2024 IEEE.

The intuitive fuzzy set has found important application in decision-making and machine *** enrich and utilize the intuitive fuzzy set,this study designed and developed a deep neural network-based glaucoma eye detection using fuzzy difference equations in the domain where the retinal images *** image detections are categorized as normal eye recognition,suspected glaucomatous eye recognition,and glaucomatous eye *** degrees associated with weighted values are calculated to determine the level of concentration between the fuzzy partition and the retinal *** proposed model was used to diagnose glaucoma using retinal images and involved utilizing the Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)and deep learning to identify the fuzzy weighted regularization between *** methodology was used to clarify the input images and make them adequate for the process of glaucoma *** objective of this study was to propose a novel approach to the early diagnosis of glaucoma using the Fuzzy Expert System(FES)and Fuzzy differential equation(FDE).The intensities of the different regions in the images and their respective peak levels were *** the peak regions were identified,the recurrence relationships among those peaks were then *** partitioning was done due to varying degrees of similar and dissimilar concentrations in the *** and dissimilar concentration levels and spatial frequency generated a threshold image from the combined fuzzy matrix and *** distinguished between a normal and abnormal eye condition,thus detecting patients with glaucomatous eyes.

Emotion detection is crucial in many IoT deployments from an operational perspective with examples ranging from digital health to smart cities. This is particularly true in smart homes where the interaction between the local IoT ecosystem and the inhabitants are continuous, pervasive, and nuanced. More specifically, emotion estimation from human speech attributes is an integral architectural component of such ecosystems. In this work, we survey the emerging LPWAN technologies and after selecting the most optimal for our use-case, we propose an emotion estimation scheme based on LoRa wireless technology for automated actions in smart home environments. In particular, a voice recognition module coupled with a transmitter are installed in a car. Then, depending on the estimation outcome, the smart home may undertake one or more preemptive actions according to its configuration as the car passenger approaches. The prototype LoRa system has been tested with the widely-used TESS dataset with encouraging results as expressed in the emotion confusion matrix obtained from a extreme learning machine with various kernels. The preceding paves the way for adaptive smart homes tailored to the needs of their inhabitants. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper addresses the control synthesis of heterogeneous stochastic linear multi-agent systems with real-time allocation of signal temporal logic (STL) specifications. Based on previous work, we decompose specifications into sub-specifications on the individual agent level. To leverage the efficiency of task allocation, a heuristic filter evaluates potential task allocation based on STL robustness, and subsequently, an auctioning algorithm determines the definitive allocation of specifications. Finally, a control strategy is synthesized for each agent-specification pair using tube-based model predictive control (MPC), ensuring provable probabilistic satisfaction. We demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed methods using a multi-shuttle scenario that highlights a promising extension to automated driving applications like vehicle routing. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Traditional load shedding schemes can be inadequate in grids with high renewable penetration, leading to unstable events and unnecessary grid islanding. Although for both manual and automatic operating modes load shedding areas have been predefined by grid operators, they have remained fixed, and may be sub-optimal due to dynamic operating conditions. In this work, a distributed tri-level linear programming model for automatic load shedding to avoid system islanding is presented. Preventing islanding is preferred because it reduces the need for additional load shedding besides the disconnection of transmission lines between islands. This is crucial as maintaining the local generation-demand balance is necessary to preserve frequency stability. Furthermore, uneven distribution of generation resources among islands can lead to increased load shedding, causing economic and reliability challenges. This issue is further compounded in modern power systems heavily dependent on non-dispatchable resources like wind and solar. The upper-level model uses complex power flow measurements to determine the system areas to shed load depending on actual operating conditions using a spectral clustering approach. The mid-level model estimates the area system state, while the lower-level model determines the locations and load values to be shed. The solution is practical and promising for real-world applications. © 2024 IEEE.

IEEE 802.11be networks (aka Wi-Fi 7) will have to cope with new bandwidth-hungry and low-latency services such as eXtended Reality and multi-party cloud gaming. With this goal in mind, transmit opportunity (TXOP) sharing between coordinated access points (APs) may contribute to alleviating inter-AP contention, hence increasing the overall network throughput. This paper evaluates two coordinated TXOP sharing strategies: coordinated time division multiple access (c-TDMA) and coordinated-TDMA with spatial reuse (c-TDMA/SR). We show that, while c-TDMA alone does not result in any significant improvement in terms of the WLAN throughput, it lays the groundwork to implement coordinated SR (c-SR) techniques. To evaluate the performance of c-TDMA/SR, we propose a fair scheduler able to select the best subset of parallel transmissions in WLAN deployments, as well as the appropriate power levels to be used by APs and stations (STAs), leading to maximum performance. The results obtained for c-TDMA/SR show significant throughput gains compared with c-TDMA, with values higher than 140% in 90% of the considered scenarios. © 2022 IEEE.
