Full-duplex communications have the potential to double the spectral efficiency. Self-interference hinders the realization of full-duplex communications, thus significant suppression needs to be achieved to enable simultaneous transmit and receive. This paper presents a digitally-assisted analog self-interference cancellation by pre-coding a cancellation waveform on an auxiliary transmitter using a modified copy of the transmitted signal. Over 30 dB self-interference cancellation has been achieved over a bandwidth of 20 MHz.

Kernel-based multi-step predictors for data-driven analysis and control of nonlinear systems through the velocity form

We propose kernel-based approaches for the construction of a single-step and multi-step predictor of the velocity form of nonlinear (NL) systems, which describes the time-difference dynamics of the corresponding NL system and admits a highly structured representation. The predictors in turn allow to formulate completely data-driven representations of the velocity form. The kernel-based formulation that we derive, inherently respects the structured quasi-linear and specific time-dependent relationship of the velocity form. This results in an efficient multi-step predictor for the velocity form and hence for nonlinear systems. Moreover, by using the velocity form, our methods open the door for data-driven behavioral analysis and control of nonlinear systems with global stability and performance guarantees. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Struvite fertilizer, characterized by its slow-release qualities, is comprised of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate and is vital for plant growth. The Integrated Laboratory Unit of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has developed a prototype for struvite fertilizer production equipment, but the production process requires manual monitoring. This project seeks to create an MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport)-based mobile application for the real-time monitoring and control of struvite fertilizer production equipment. The application employs the MQTT communication protocol, known for its quick data transmission and minimal bandwidth requirements. This application incorporates sensors on the production machine, which includes a reactor, filter, and dryer, and employs an Amazon Web Service’s (AWS) IoT Core as the MQTT broker. Findings from the application’s evaluation indicate that the mobile application can efficiently monitor and control several machine components. Data transmission to MQTT topics was successful, facilitating seamless communication. Functional and integration testing demonstrated that the system operates effectively. Usability testing outcomes yielded an average score of 77.75 with a system usability scale (SUS) approach, signifying that the application possesses a satisfactory degree of usability classified within the “Grade B” category.

Image captioning involves generating a natural language description that accurately represents the content and context of an image. To achieve this, image captioning utilises various machine learning techniques and fields, such as computer vision and natural language processing. In the field of image captioning, a lot of advances have been made with encoder-decoder models and reinforcement learning algorithms. However, there are still problems of imbalance between testing and training, as reinforcement learning only handles single comparator metrics such as CIDEr, SPICE, and BLEU and could not perform better in multiple metrics at once. Which is why a lack of diversity can be seen in generated captions. This idea proposes a general technique for collaborative updating that can bridge the gap between evaluation measures and test metrics to produce captions that are more human-like. To increase the precision of image captions, the approach involves using a compiled reward system that considers multiple evaluation metrics to compare the generated sentence with the provided sentences. We will evaluate the model's performance and the reward updating process on standard datasets like MS COCO. © 2023 IEEE.

In this article, we present an evolution language for graph databases and a method to realize evolution operations on graph databases and their schema. Graph database management systems like Neo4j can be used for different scenarios: they can store graphs where no semantic constraints are checked. It is also possible to use them to store graphs where the structure of nodes and relationships is regular, for example, because the nodes and relationships of a graph have been generated by an application. In the latter case, these structures may change, that means they can undergo evolution. Currently, there is no established evolutionary language for graphs. However, evolution operations (such as add, rename, delete, merge, copy, split and move) have already been developed for other database models. In this article, we will not only use the established evolution operations but additionally extend the operations appropriated. After analyzing evolution operators explicitly in the context of graph databases, we also created a new graph-specific operation: transform. Moreover, we suggest an evolution language to graph data and show how it can be executed on the graph database schema as well as on the instances (i.e. the graphs themselves). In doing so, some operations can be implemented native based on Cypher, others non-native using the APOC library for Neo4j. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) involves various standards, protocols, and tools, requiring extensive expertise for system design. The traditional automation pyramid limits scalability due to tightly-coupled components. Integrating IIoT data in the cloud through event-driven communication, like MQTT brokers, provides loose coupling. This integration also aids in resource monitoring and planning, enhancing IIoT application performance. Despite many IIoT architecture studies, there is a lack of empirical comparisons of MQTT broker deployment strategies. This paper examines an edge-cloud aggregation scenario, where IIoT device requests are aggregated at the edge and fog services before being transmitted to the cloud. We study four MQTT deployment architectures and compare the results empirically. We use an Arduino Opta as an IIoT device. Also, we use software-based load generation to support replicability of our experiment and reproducibility of our results. Findings indicate that a central broker on a dedicated virtual machine gives 13.8% improvements of the mean response time compared to the shared deployment of MQTT broker and device gateways. Our results offer insights into effective deployment strategies.

Modern transportation systems face growing challenges in managing traffic flow, ensuring safety, and maintaining operational efficiency amid dynamic traffic patterns. Addressing these challenges requires intelligent solutions capable of real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and adaptive control. This paper proposes an architecture for DigIT, a Digital Twin (DT) platform for Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS), designed to overcome the limitations of existing frameworks by offering a modular and scalable solution for traffic management. Built on a Domain Concept Model (DCM), the architecture systematically models key ITS components enabling seamless integration of predictive modeling and simulations. The architecture leverages machine learning models to forecast traffic patterns based on historical and real-time data. To adapt to evolving traffic patterns, the architecture incorporates adaptive Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), automating the deployment and lifecycle management of predictive models. Evaluation results highlight the effectiveness of the architecture in delivering accurate predictions and computational efficiency.

This paper explores the run time performance improvements using different GCC optimization flags in program compilation. As multi-core microprocessor systems replacing legacy single-core ones, tremendous effort is needed to address to optimize the associated compilers for newly designed architectures in order to suit them for running parallel programming on multiple cores. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to address this challenge by designing an optimum distributed multi-agent system to perform compiler optimization. A multi-agent framework is adopted to utilize random and genetic algorithm-based search algorithm to find the best GCC optimization flags for a given program. The framework is highly scalable and can be extended with distributed system concept to perform code compilation in parallel to find the best-optimized code sequence in a short amount of time. The initial performance results have promising indicators which clearly show that the performance improvement is achieved. © 2021 IEEE.
