After the pandemic, humanity has been facing different types of challenges. Social relationships, societal values, and academic and professional behavior have been hit the most. People are shifting their routines to social media, and gadgets and getting addicted to their isolation [5]. This sudden change in their lives has caused an unusual social breakdown and endangered their mental health. In mid of 2021, Pakistan's 1st Human Library was established under HelpingMind® to overcome these effects [9]. Despite online sessions and webinars, HelpingMind® needs technology to reach the masses. In this work, we customized the UI/UX of a Go-Together Mobile Application (GTMA) to meet the requirements of the client organization. A very interesting concept of the book (expert listener/ psychologist) and the reader is introduced in GTMA. It offers separate dashboards, separate reviews or rating systems, booking, and venue information to engage the human-reader with his/ her favorite human book. The loyalty program enables the members to avail discounts through a mobile application and its membership is global where both the human-reader and human-books can register under the platform. The minimum viable product has been approved by our client organization.

Movement Observation (MO), which refers to humans’ perception of movement, significantly influences user cognition and behavior in Virtual Reality (VR) environments. It has the potential to influence immersion and effectiveness of the VR experience. This research investigates MO and how our brains react to locomotion in VR, generally motivated by an interest in neurological considerations when integrating locomotion within an experience, either for social or medical purposes, such as rehabilitation. The investigation explores and compares VR locomotion techniques through mu rhythm desynchronization, shedding light on the underlying neural processes associated with motor resonance in the context of VR-mediated MO. Through a detailed experimental approach, incorporating Electroencephalography (EEG) analysis, the study examines neural responses elicited by three VR locomotion techniques: Arm Swinger (AS), Sliding Joystick (SJ), and Short Teleport (ST), employing sophisticated filtering methodology to isolate and analyze neural signals, minimizing artifacts from head and arm movements through velocity-based adaptive filtering and support vector classifiers for Electrooculography (EOG) noise reduction to enhances the precision of mu rhythm desynchronization analysis. Findings highlight significant variations in mu rhythm suppression across these techniques, illustrating the complex link between VR movement methods and their neural correlates in the motor cortex and showed a significant difference in mu suppression levels during MO of locomotion techniques, indicating that motor resonance of voluntary movement in VR is influenced by how that motion is perceived. Finally, this research suggests employing this method in conjunction with other cognitive and psychological metrics to assess the impact of VR experience on individuals.

The development of sustainable, smart mobility has been accelerated by the arrival of innovative technologies. With the paradigm shift towards transport electrification, Electric Light Vehicles (EL-Vs) represent a very promising pathway to smart urban mobility. Still, the current market penetration of EL-Vs is relatively low compared to that of conventional vehicles. Via one-year long demonstrations of such vehicles in six different European cities (Rome, Genoa, Bari, Málaga, Trikala and Berlin) ELVITEN EU funded project proposes a holistic approach to boost the EL-Vs usage by addressing all of the issues hindering the wide market penetration of EL-Vs, which are the Users’ Low Awareness, the Consumers’ Concerns and the Inadequate Mobility Planning for EL-Vs. This paper presents the harmonized, user-centered, controlled, step-by-step methodology that has been followed in order to prepare and set up the pilot in each City, to create awareness among users and to collect and analyse data from the different Cities so that the findings can be comparable and thus being able to derive recommendations and guidelines to accelerate the deployment of EL-Vs in complex and demanding urban environments. The demonstration activities target the collection of appropriate sizes of various types of data, based on the methodological triangulation concept and a blended qualitative and quantitative study approach, in order to increase the credibility and validity of the results. © 2021, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Fast Swarming of UAVs in GNSS-denied Feature-poor Environments without Explicit Communication

A decentralized swarm approach for the fast cooperative flight of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in feature-poor environments without any external localization and communication is introduced in this paper. A novel model of a UAV neighborhood is proposed to achieve robust onboard mutual perception and flocking state feedback control, which is designed to decrease the inter-agent oscillations common in standard reactive swarm models employed in fast collective motion. The novel swarming methodology is supplemented with an enhanced Multi-Robot State Estimation (MRSE) strategy to increase the reliability of the purely onboard localization, which may be unreliable in real environments. Although MRSE and the neighborhood model may rely on information exchange between agents, we introduce a communication-less version of the swarming framework based on estimating communicated states to decrease dependence on the often unreliable communication networks of large swarms. The proposed solution has been verified by a set of complex real-world experiments to demonstrate its overall capability in different conditions, including a UAV interception-motivated task with a group velocity reaching the physical limits of the individual hardware platforms. Optical fiber transmission systems form the back-bone of today's communication networks and will be of high importance for future networks as well. Among the prominent noise effects in optical fiber is phase noise, which is induced by the Kerr effect. This effect limits the data transmission capacity of these networks and incurs high processing load on the receiver. At the same time, quantum information processing techniques offer more efficient solutions but are believed to be inefficient in terms of size, power consumption and resistance to noise. Here we investigate the concept of an all-optical joint detection receiver. We show how it contributes to enabling higher baud-rates for optical transmission systems when used as a pre-processor, even under high levels of noise induced by the Kerr effect. © 2022 IEEE.

With the advent of the multi-sensor satellite system architecture, earth and space exploration such as swarms and constellations are feasible. This transition requires novel technologies to achieve future capabilities. In this context, the establishment of prioritized, secure, and efficient command and data communication is essential for space and ground systems. The use of blockchain assures a secure automated network infrastructure. The blockchain has the potential for usage in swarm satellite architectures and constellations. This paper presents the use of blockchain in multi-sensor satellite architecture with its distributed ledger and smart contract capabilities to provide prioritized and secure collaborative satellite systems. The paper further discusses the use of blockchain technology in securing tracking and logging of control events and commands in satellite architecture. The use of blockchain technology addresses the issues of constellation flight architecture, management of computational operation, autonomous observation, time-critical event planning of ground and space autonomous operation of satellite systems. © 2021 IEEE.

The stacking ensemble model is widely used in the forecasting of univariate time series data. It works by combining the predictions of multiple models. It has been applied across fields such as economics, energy, and healthcare, where data often fluctuates frequently and comes in diverse forms. First, a set of base models is trained on the dataset to make initial predictions. These predictions are then used as input features for the training of a meta-model. Finally, in subsequent forecasts, the trained meta-model merges the new predictions of the base models to provide a more accurate forecast. However, most stacking models directly use all available data to train the base models once and stack their predictions to train the meta-model. This may lead to overfitting because they train the base models on the entire dataset, including the part of the actual labels for training the meta-model, potentially causing target leakage for the meta-model. To address this issue, we propose a two-stage trained stacking model. The input data is divided into training and label parts. In the first stage, the base models are trained on the training part, and the predictions of the base models are combined with the label part to train the meta-model. In the second stage, the base models are retrained with all input data, and the meta-model trained in the first stage is used for the final prediction. This approach helps mitigate overfitting in the prediction phase caused by target leakage during the training process. We test our model on three different types of datasets. Experimental results show that our stacking ensemble model outperforms the individual base models on all datasets in terms of MAE and MSE, demonstrating not only good generalizability but also improved performance across various scenarios. Additionally, we compared our two-stage trained stacking model with a basic stacking ensemble model framework. The results suggest our model provides more accurate predictions for

The performance of a feedforward controller is primarily determined by the extent to which it can capture the relevant dynamics of a system. The aim of this paper is to develop an input-output linear parameter-varying (LPV) feedforward parameterization and a corresponding data-driven estimation method in which the dependency of the coefficients on the scheduling signal are learned by a neural network. The use of a neural network enables the parameterization to compensate a wide class of constant relative degree LPV systems. Efficient optimization of the neural-network-based controller is achieved through a Levenberg-Marquardt approach with analytic gradients and a pseudolinear approach generalizing Sanathanan-Koerner to the LPV case. The performance of the developed feedforward learning method is validated in a simulation study of an LPV system showing excellent performance.

On constraints in first-order optimization: a view from non-smooth dynamical systems

We introduce a class of first-order methods for smooth constrained optimization that are based on an analogy to non-smooth dynamical systems. Two distinctive features of our approach are that (i) projections or optimizations over the entire feasible set are avoided, in stark contrast to projected gradient methods or the Frank-Wolfe method, and (ii) iterates are allowed to become infeasible, which differs from active set or feasible direction methods, where the descent motion stops as soon as a new constraint is encountered. The resulting algorithmic procedure is simple to implement even when constraints are nonlinear, and is suitable for large-scale constrained optimization problems in which the feasible set fails to have a simple structure. The key underlying idea is that constraints are expressed in terms of velocities instead of positions, which has the algorithmic consequence that optimizations over feasible sets at each iteration are replaced with optimizations over local, sparse convex approximations. In particular, this means that at each iteration only constraints that are violated are taken into account. The result is a simplified suite of algorithms and an expanded range of possible applications in machine learning.
