Due to increasing the demand for using photovoltaic power system that uses sustainable and renewable energy sources to meet power demand, many studies were investigated to improve the photovoltaic power system operation. In this paper, the power system quality will be discussed to show the impact of power quality on the electrical grid by analyzing the nominal current and voltage output from the inverter at different weather conditions and different switching frequencies. Power quality is considered one of the major issues that need to be addressed. The low quality ofpower operation may cause disturbance and economic losses. The realtime simulation will be done by using MATLAB/Simulink.

Ultrasound is widely used as a clinical routine tool for neonates’ brain assessment, especially for preterm neonates. This population is at high risk of developing serious complications leading to neurocognitive and motor impairments. However, the analysis of Cranial Ultrasound requires experienced personnel to perform a time-consuming visual assessment, which is nontrivial due to the low quality and artifacts in the images. For this analysis to be more objective, fast, and accurate, many automatic methods have been proposed. Such methods usually rely on segmenting brain structures or regions of interest for the extraction of subsequent clinically useful measurements. Deep Learning methods are being more adopted recently as they proved to have a huge potential in many medical image analysis tasks. In this review article, we present and discuss the Deep Learning-based methods developed for the automatic segmentation of preterm neonatal ultrasound images, more specifically the methods developed for segmenting the Cerebral Ventricle System. The performance and evaluation results of these methods are compared, and their major contributions are outlined. Furthermore, we discuss the main challenges of neonatal ultrasound automatic segmentation and possible ways to address these challenges. Finally, we discuss the future directions in this very specific context. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Distributed Software-Defined Network Architecture for Smart Grid Resilience to Denial-of-Service Attacks

An important challenge for smart grid security is designing a secure and robust smart grid communications architecture to protect against cyber-threats, such as Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, that can adversely impact the operation of the power grid. Researchers have proposed using Software Defined Network frameworks to enhance cybersecurity of the smart grid, but there is a lack of benchmarking and comparative analyses among the many techniques. In this work, a distributed three-controller software-defined networking (D3-SDN) architecture, benchmarking and comparative analysis with other techniques is presented. The selected distributed flat SDN architecture divides the network horizontally into multiple areas or clusters, where each cluster is handled by a single Open Network Operating System (ONOS) controller. A case study using the IEEE 118-bus system is provided to compare the performance of the presented ONOS-managed D3-SDN, against the POX controller. In addition, the proposed architecture outperforms a single SDN controller framework by a tenfold increase in throughput;a reduction in latency of > 20%;and an increase in throughput of approximately 11% during the DoS attack scenarios. As an important component of the space-air-ground integrated network, aerial base station (AeBS) systems have gained significant attention for their flexibility in mobility and cost-effective construction. Nevertheless, the scarce spectrum resources and difficulty in accessing global information bring necessity and challenges to the deployment and resource allocation of AeBSs. In this paper, we propose a practical two-timescale framework to solve the resource allocation and deployment optimization problem in multi-AeBS networks. Specifically, the subcarrier allocation problem is first transformed into a many-to-one matching game coupled with power allocation and solved in a small timescale. Then, in a large timescale, the AeBS deployment subproblem is transformed into a distributed partially observable Markov decision process (Dec-POMDP), and then a novel multi-agent hypergraph convolutional deep reinforcement learning (MAHGCDRL) is proposed to solve this problem. The proposed MAHGCDRL extracts features of neighboring AeBSs through hypergraph convolutional networks, enabling AeBS agents to achieve better coordination in a distributed manner. Simulation results show that our proposed approach can attain a higher sum rate, and the proposed MAHGCDRL algorithm achieves better learning performance compared to the existing benchmarks in the literature. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Food texture is a complex property;various sensory attributes such as perceived crispiness and wetness have been identified as ways to quantify it. Objective and automatic recognition of these attributes has applications in multiple fields, including health sciences and food engineering. In this work we use an in-ear microphone, commonly used for chewing detection, and propose algorithms for recognizing three food-texture attributes, specifically crispiness, wetness (moisture), and chewiness. We use binary SVMs, one for each attribute, and propose two algorithms: one that recognizes each texture attribute at the chew level and one at the chewing-bout level. We evaluate the proposed algorithms using leave-one-subject-out cross-validation on a dataset with 9 subjects. We also evaluate them using leave-one-food-type-out cross-validation, in order to examine the generalization of our approach to new, unknown food types. Our approach performs very well in recognizing crispiness (0.95 weighted accuracy on new subjects and 0.93 on new food types) and demonstrates promising results for objective and automatic recognition of wetness and chewiness. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Energy smart meters have become very popular, advantaging the general public and utility companies via instant energy monitoring, and modelling, respectively. The information available from smart metering could however be used maliciously with the use of non-intrusive load monitoring technology. In this paper, we explore the vectors for attack on the smart metering network, showing physical and logical locations from which data could be stolen; and show how socio-economic, health related, occupancy, and multi-media viewing habits can be estimated to a high accuracy, thus posing a threat to users' privacy and security.

This report examines the performance of a high-speed MDM transmission system supporting four nondegenerate spatial modes at 10 Gb/s. The analysis adopts the NRZ modulation format to evaluate the system performance in terms of a minimum power required (PN) and the nonlinear threshold power (PTH) at a BER of 10−9. The receiver sensitivity, optical signal-to-noise ratio, and the maximum transmission distance were investigated using the direct detection by employing a multimode erbium-doped amplifier (MM-EDFA). It was found that by properly optimizing the MM-EDFA, the system performance can significantly be improved. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH. All rights reserved.

The gender gap in STEM is an issue that affects regions and countries worldwide. Furthermore, the percentage of women in these areas depends on a range of different factors. In particular, the gender gap is critical in technology in general and, more specifically, in informatics. This problem affects not only the business sector but also society. Informatics is part of our lives;however, 50% of the world population is not represented in the teams that are developing solutions for solving society's problems. In Spain, the number of women with informatics degrees is around 15%. This work describes a case study developed by the committee of Women in Informatics at the Scientific Society of Spanish Informatics (SCIE) to analyse the perception of informatics scientists on the gender gap in informatics. © 2022 IEEE.

After the pandemic, humanity has been facing different types of challenges. Social relationships, societal values, and academic and professional behavior have been hit the most. People are shifting their routines to social media, and gadgets and getting addicted to their isolation [5]. This sudden change in their lives has caused an unusual social breakdown and endangered their mental health. In mid of 2021, Pakistan’s 1st Human Library was established under HelpingMind® to overcome these effects [9]. Despite online sessions and webinars, HelpingMind® needs technology to reach the masses. In this work, we customized the UI/UX of a Go-Together Mobile Application (GTMA) to meet the requirements of the client organization. A very interesting concept of the book (expert listener/ psychologist) and the reader is introduced in GTMA. It offers separate dashboards, separate reviews or rating systems, booking, and venue information to engage the human-reader with his/ her favorite human book. The loyalty program enables the members to avail discounts through a mobile application and its membership is global where both the human-reader and human-books can register under the platform.
