Recent progress in the fabrication of Resistive Random Access Mem-ory (ReRAM) devices has paved the way for large scale crossbar structures. In particular, in-memory computing on ReRAM cross-bars helps in bridging the processor-memory speed gap for current CMOS technology. To this end, synthesis and mapping of Boolean functions to such crossbars have been investigated by researchers. However the verification of simple designs on crossbar is still done through manual inspection or sometimes complemented by sim-ulation based techniques. Clearly this is an important problem as real world designs are complex and have higher number of inputs. As a result manual inspection and simulation based methods for these designs are not practical. In this paper for the first time as per our knowledge we pro-pose an automated equivalence checking methodology for majority based in-memory designs on ReRAM crossbars. Our contributions are twofold: first, we introduce an intermediate data structure called ReRAM Sequence Graph (ReSG) to represent the logic-in-memory design. This in turn is translated into Boolean Satifiability (SAT) formulas. These SAT formulas are verified against the golden functional specification using Z3 Satifiability Modulo Theory (SMT) solver. We validate the proposed method by running widely avail-able benchmarks.

This paper proposes a backstepping integral sliding mode controller (BISMC) based on the partial feedback linearization (PFBL) of the detailed model of synchronous generators (SGs) in simple power networks. The proposed scheme is designed to obtain the excitation control input using the detailed model of SGs in a simple power system where the PFBL is used to simplify the model. The BISMC is employed on this simplified model to ensure the transient stability during large disturbances. The inherent property of the BISMC tackles the chattering and overcomes the parameter sensitivity problem of the PFBL scheme. Simulation studies are conducted under different operating situations to justify the effectiveness of the proposed PFBL-BISMC over a partial feedback linearizing controller (PFBLC). © 2021 IEEE.

A composite backstepping integral sliding mode controller (BISMC) is proposed in this work for a DC-DC boost converter feeding a constant power load (CPL) in a simple DC distribution system. Here, the main objective is to ensure the large-signal stability with wide variations in operating regions. The proposed BISMC is designed based on the feedback linearized model of the DC-DC boost converter with a CPL where the average state-space model is exactly linearized. The use of exact feedback linearization overcomes the non-minimum phase problem of a DC-DC boost converter due to the presence of the CPL that exhibits negative impedance characteristics. The control law is obtained using the combination of backstepping and integral sliding mode control schemes where both approaches ensure the faster convergence of errors for all states and the integral action on the sliding surface is designed in such a fashion that will ensure the constant frequency operation of the power converter feeding the CPL while eliminating the variable frequency associated problem of the existing controllers. In addition, the stability of the whole system is analyzed through the Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the designed composite nonlinear controller whose performance is also compared with a double-loop proportional integral (PI) controller to verify the superiority of the designed controller. © 2021 IEEE.

The recent combination of the rising architectures, known as stacked intelligent metasurface (SIM) and holographic multiple-input multiple-output (HMIMO), drives toward breakthroughs for next-generation wireless communication systems. Given the fact that the number of elements per surface of the SIM is much larger than the base station (BS) antennas, the acquisition of the channel state information (CSI) in SIM-aided multi-user systems is challenging, especially when a line-of-sight (LoS) component is present. Thus, in this letter, we address the channel procedure under conditions of Rician fading by proposing a protocol in terms of a minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator for wave-based design in a single phase. Moreover, we derive the normalized mean square error (NMSE) of the suggested estimator, and provide the optimal phase shifts minimising the NMSE. Data provenance, or data lineage, describes the life cycle of data. In scientific workflows on HPC systems, scientists often seek diverse provenance (e.g., origins of data products, usage patterns of datasets). Unfortunately, existing provenance solutions cannot address the challenges due to their incompatible provenance models and/or system implementations. In this paper, we analyze four representative scientific workflows in collaboration with the domain scientists to identify concrete provenance needs. Based on the first-hand analysis, we propose a provenance framework called PROV-IO+, which includes an I/O-centric provenance model for describing scientific data and the associated I/O operations and environments precisely. Moreover, we build a prototype of PROV-IO+ to enable end-to-end provenance support on real HPC systems with little manual effort. The PROV-IO+ framework can support both containerized and non-containerized workflows on different HPC platforms with flexibility in selecting various classes of provenance. Our experiments with realistic workflows show that PROV-IO+ can address the provenance needs of the domain scientists effectively with reasonable performance (e.g., less than 3.5% tracking overhead for most experiments). Stacked intelligent metasurface (SIM) is an emerging design that consists of multiple layers of metasurfaces. A SIM enables holographic multiple-input multiple-output (HMIMO) precoding in the wave domain, which results in the reduction of energy consumption and hardware cost. On the ground of multiuser beamforming, this letter focuses on the downlink achievable rate and its maximization. Contrary to previous works on multiuser SIM, we consider statistical channel state information (CSI) as opposed to instantaneous CSI to overcome challenges such as large overhead. Also, we examine the performance of large surfaces. We apply an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm regarding the phases of the SIM and the allocated transmit power. Simulations illustrate the performance of the considered large SIM-assisted design as well as the comparison between different CSI considerations. © 2024, CC BY.

Autonomous robots used in infrastructure inspection, space exploration and other critical missions operate in highly dynamic environments. As such, they must continually verify their ability to complete the tasks associated with these missions safely and effectively. Here we present a Bayesian learning framework that enables this runtime verification of autonomous robots. The framework uses prior knowledge and observations of the verified robot to learn expected ranges for the occurrence rates of regular and singular (e.g., catastrophic failure) events. Interval continuous-time Markov models defined using these ranges are then analysed to obtain expected intervals of variation for system properties such as mission duration and success probability. We apply the framework to an autonomous robotic mission for underwater infrastructure inspection and repair. The formal proofs and experiments presented in the paper show that our framework produces results that reflect the uncertainty intrinsic to many real-world systems, enabling the robust verification of their quantitative properties under parametric uncertainty. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper presents datasets utilised for synthetic near-infrared (NIR) image generation and bounding-box level fruit detection systems. A high-quality dataset is one of the essential building blocks that can lead to success in model generalisation and the deployment of data-driven deep neural networks. In particular, synthetic data generation tasks often require more training samples than other supervised approaches. Therefore, in this paper, we share the NIR+RGB datasets that are re-processed from two public datasets (i.e., nirscene and SEN12MS), expanded our previous study, deepFruits, and our novel NIR+RGB sweet pepper(capsicum) dataset. We oversampled from the original nirscene dataset at 10, 100, 200, and 400 ratios that yielded a total of 127 k pairs of images. From the SEN12MS satellite multispectral dataset, we selected Summer (45 k) and All seasons (180 k) subsets and applied a simple yet important conversion;digital number (DN) to pixel value conversion followed by image standardisation. Our sweet pepper dataset consists of 1615 pairs of NIR+RGB images that were collected from commercial farms. We quantitatively and qualitatively demonstrate that these NIR+RGB datasets are sufficient to be used for synthetic NIR image generation. We achieved Frechet Inception Distance (FID) of 11.36, 26.53, and 40.15 for nirscene1, SEN12MS, and sweet pepper datasets respectively. In addition, we release manual annotations of 11 fruit bounding boxes that can be exported as various formats using cloud service. Four newly added fruits [blueberry, cherry, kiwi, and wheat] compound 11 novel bounding box datasets on top of our previous work presented in the deepFruits project [apple, avocado, capsicum, mango, orange, rockmelon, strawberry]. The total number of bounding box instances of the dataset is 162 k and it is ready to use from cloud service. For the evaluation of the dataset, Yolov5 single stage detector is exploited and reported impressive mean-average-precision, mAP[0.

Chirped DFT-s-OFDM: A new single-carrier waveform with enhanced LMMSE noise suppression

In this correspondence, a new single-carrier waveform, called chirped discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM), is proposed for the sixth generation of communications. By chirping DFT-s-OFDM in the time domain, the proposed waveform maintains the low peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) of DFT-s-OFDM. Thanks to full-band transmission and symbols retransmission enabled by chirping and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) precoding, the proposed waveform can enhance noise suppression of linear minimum mean square error equalization. Its bit error rate (BER) upper bound and diversity order are derived using pairwise error probability. Simulation results confirm that the proposed waveform outperforms the state-of-the-art waveforms in terms of BER, output signal-to-noise-ratio, and PAPR. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
