A novel computational approach to predict activity of nuclear export signals

A nuclear export signal (NES) is a sequence of amino acids, which is a protein localization signal, and contributes to regulate localization of cellular proteins. In recent peering works, activity of NESs were introduced in computational methods, which perform significantly well in identifying unknown NESs even from huge datasets, but suffer from a shortage that only a small number of NESs are associated with experimental verified active scores. In this work, we propose a novel computational method to predict active score of NESs. Specifically, we firstly abstract relevant features to NES activity, and then construct a mathematical model based on principal component analysis (PCA) to find each feature's contribution to activity. In this way, a method to calculate active score of unknown NESs is achieved. In data experiments, it is obtained that our method can achieve accuracy rate 80%. The activity of an unknown NES candidate can give us a preliminary understanding of it, and can be used to identify positive NESs from the negative ones. To the best acknowledge of the authors, this is the first time computational method is proposed to predict NESs' activity. Copyright © 2015 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.

Membrane algorithms （MAs）, which inherit from P systems, constitute a new parallel and distribute framework for approximate computation. In the paper, a membrane algorithm is proposed with the improvement that the involved parameters can be adaptively chosen. In the algorithm, some membranes can evolve dynamically during the computing process to specify the values of the requested parameters. The new algorithm is tested on a well-known combinatorial optimization problem, the travelling salesman problem. The em-pirical evidence suggests that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable when dealing with 11 benchmark instances, particularly obtaining the best of the known solutions in eight instances. Compared with the genetic algorithm, simulated annealing algorithm, neural net-work and a fine-tuned non-adaptive membrane algorithm, our algorithm performs better than them. In practice, to design the airline network that minimize the total routing cost on the CAB data with twenty-five US cities, we can quickly obtain high quality solutions using our algorithm.

Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. Self-triggered control is a technique which can determine the next sampling instant by virtue of the last sampling information. Combining this technique and the low-gain feedback one, we investigate the consensus tracking of general linear multi-agent systems with input saturation and updating delays in this paper. Specific formulations of heterogenous updating delays and heterogenous sampling periods are acquired to guarantee the semi-global consensus tracking of multi-agent systems. Numerical simulations are provided to verify the main results.

A multiple activated anti-windup compensated algorithm for Active Disturbance Rejection control(ADRC) mechanism is proposed in this paper. This paradigm extends the multi-activated anti-windup scheme to the active disturbance rejection mechanism, to deal with the input saturation nonlinearity and meanwhile reject the disturbance automatically by using Extended State Observer(ESO). The output of anti-windup compensator is treated as a part of unknown disturbances and is introduced into the ESO, which can online observe both internal and external disturbances(parameter uncertainties and model mismatches). The controller input is yielded by using a nonlinear feedback combination, and it is used to compensate the integrator windup caused by the saturation nonlinearity element. On the other hand, in order to determine the parameters of the ESO and the anti-windup compensator feedback gain, the L2 gain design method is considered. The effectiveness and the robustness against model and parameter uncertainties of the proposed method is verified by an example of the seeker platform.

In this paper,a novel randomized step frequency radar with weighted PSO is proposed to recover the range and velocity joint estimating by exploiting sparseness of the targets and invoking compressed sensing(CS) *** this algorithm,we abandons the exhaustive list method in the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP) scheme,which is easy to cause performance degradation in the radar ***,a weighted PSO dynamic optimal method is adopted,where the convergence speed is increased due to the weighted factor introduced in the Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO).The primary advantage of this method lies in being less sensitive to the initial value of target parameters in the case of online optimization ***,this method overcomes the limitation that the initial parameters must be selected close to the true value of the target,which is not constant in many *** is not necessary to know exactly the target parameters when using our approach,instead,coarse coding bounds of target parameters are enough for the algorithm,which can be done once and for all off-line,and it is only necessary to specify the initial scopes of the velocity and the range of the *** results demonstrate that the proposed weighted PSO approach provides a faster convergence speed and robustness against unpredictable perturbations for range and velocity joint estimating in randomized step frequency radar.

Joint optimization of the source transmission power, the relay transmission power, and the time switching (TS) ratio is investigated in orthogonal frequency division multiple access wireless powered relay networks. The relay does not have embedded energy supply and needs to first harvest energy from the received signals from the source before using amplify and forward transmission strategy for forwarding transmission. Time switching scheme is used by the relay for wireless information and power transfer. The resource allocation problem aims at maximizing the sum rate under the source transmission power, the relay harvested energy, and the TS ratio constraints. The joint resource allocation problem is formulated as an optimization problem, which is non-convex and generally difficult to solve. Then an alternate convex search algorithm, which alternately finds the optimal solution to one kind of variables by fixing the other two kinds of variables, is proposed. The convergence of the algorithm is proven as well. Simulations verify the better performance of the proposed algorithm compared with two related algorithms.

This paper aims at scheduling the charging behavior of a large population of plug-in electric taxis(PET) by means of pricing, in order to respond to load requirement of future smart grid in critical situations. The main contributions consist of two parts. First, the charging behavior of a single PET is analyzed, and a threshold-based scheduling algorithm is proposed from the perspective of PET in order to minimize its cost. Second, based on the individual behavior the aggregate charging behavior of a fleet of PETs is analyzed, and a pricing scheme is proposed so that the aggregated load of PET fleet can track a given target load profile. Numerical simulations verify the proposed method.

In this paper, a distributed event-triggered control strategy is proposed such that consensus of multi-agent systems is achieved subject to input saturation in an output feedback setting. Instead of triggering the controller periodically, the proposed controller is not activated until the response of the system exceeds some pre-defined event-triggered limitation. The case of the output feedback is considered and the allowed saturation approach is introduced to deal with the nonlinearity caused by the input saturation. In the proposed scheme, since no hard constraint is imposed to the control input, we can make full use of the available actuator capacity. In addition, results on the minimization of the frequency of the event-triggered actions are provided.
