Image salient object detection (SOD) is an active research topic in computer vision and multimedia area. Fusing complementary information of RGB and depth has been demonstrated to be effective for image salient object detection which is known as RGB-D salient object detection problem. The main challenge for RGB-D salient object detection is how to exploit the salient cues of both intra-modality (RGB, depth) and cross-modality simultaneously which is known as cross-modality detection problem. In this paper, we tackle this challenge by designing a novel cross-modality Saliency Generative Adversarial Network (cmSalGAN). cmSalGAN aims to learn an optimal view-invariant and consistent pixel-level representation for RGB and depth images via a novel adversarial learning framework, which thus incorporates both information of intra-view and correlation information of cross-view images simultaneously for RGB-D saliency detection problem. To further improve the detection results, the attention mechanism and edge detection module are also incorporated into cmSalGAN. The entire cmSalGAN can be trained in an end-to-end manner by using the standard deep neural network framework. Experimental results show that cmSalGAN achieves the new state-of-the-art RGB-D saliency detection performance on several benchmark datasets. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Influence maximization refers to selecting a group of nodes from a social network, which obtains the largest influence spread under a cascade model. However, most of the existing works only focused on the influence and ignored the diversity of influenced crowd. Thus, scholars have raised the issue of diversified social influence maximization recently, using the category information of nodes to design diversity indicator and introducing a trade-off parameter to balance the two objectives influence and diversity as one single objective for optimization. In fact, the category information of nodes in the network is usually difficult to be collected, thus the definition of diversity based on nodes' categories is not very general and accurate. In addition, it is very difficult to set the trade-off parameter, especially when there is no prior knowledge in real applications. To this end, we employ overlapping community structure information to design the diversity of nodes without any node's additional (e.g. category) information. Due to the two objectives of influence and diversity may be conflicting, a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm named MOEA-DIM is proposed to optimize the two objectives simultaneously, which does not need to set the tradeoff parameter between the two objectives. In MOEA-DIM, a network reduction strategy based on overlapping community structure is suggested to greatly reduce the search space. In addition, a population initialization strategy based on random walk is designed to accelerate the convergence of the algorithm. Experiments on six real-world datasets show that the proposed algorithm MOEA-DIM has promising performance in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency.

Performance Evaluation of an Anomaly-Detection Algorithm for keystroke-Typing Based Insider Detection

keystroke dynamics is the process to identify or authenticate individuals based on their typing rhythm behaviors. Several classifications have been proposed to verify a user＇s legitimacy, and the performances of these classifications should be confirmed to identify the most promising research direction. However, classification research contains several experiments with different conditions such as datasets and methodologies. This study aims to benchmark the algorithms to the same dataset and features to equally measure all performances. Using a dataset that contains the typing rhythm of 51 subjects, we implement and evaluate 15 classifiers measured by Fl-measure, which is the harmonic mean of a false-negative identification rate and false-positive identification rate. We also develop a methodology to process the typing data. By considering a case in which the model will reject the outsider, we tested the algorithms on an open set. Additionally, we tested different parameters in random forest and k nearest neighbors classifications to achieve better results and explore the cause of their high performance. We also tested the dataset on one-class classification and explained the results of the experiment. The top-performing classifier achieves an Fl-measure rate of 92% while using the normalized typing data of 50 subjects to train and the remaining data to test. The results, along with the normalization methodology, constitute a benchmark for comparing the classifiers and measuring the performance of keystroke dynamics for insider detection.

Quantum circuits for the heat equation with physical boundary conditions via Schrödingerization

This paper explores the explicit design of quantum circuits for quantum simulation of partial differential equations (PDEs) with physical boundary conditions. These equations and/or their discretized forms usually do not evolve via unitary dynamics, thus are not directly suitable for quantum simulation. Boundary conditions (either time-dependent or independent) make the problem more difficult. To tackle this challenge, the Schrödingerization method can be employed, which converts linear partial and ordinary differential equations with non-unitary dynamics into systems of Schrödinger-type equations, via the so-called warped phase transformation that maps the equation into one higher dimension. Despite advancements in Schrödingerization techniques, the explicit implementation of quantum circuits for solving general PDEs, especially with physical boundary conditions, remains underdeveloped. We present two methods for handling the inhomogeneous terms arising from time-dependent physical boundary conditions. One approach utilizes Duhamel’s principle to express the solution in integral form and employs linear combination of unitaries (LCU) for coherent state preparation. Another method applies an augmentation to transform the inhomogeneous problem into a homogeneous one. We then apply the quantum simulation technique from [1] to transform the resulting non-autonomous system to an autonomous system in one higher dimension. We provide detailed implementations of these two methods and conduct a comprehensive complexity analysis in terms of queries to the time evolution input oracle.

Schrödingerization based quantum algorithms for the fractional Poisson equation

We develop a quantum algorithm for solving high-dimensional fractional Poisson equations. By applying the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension, the d-dimensional fractional equation is reformulated as a local partial differential equation in d + 1 dimensions. We propose a quantum algorithm for the finite element discretization of this local problem, by capturing the steady-state of the corresponding differential equations using the Schrödingerization approach from [29, 39, 40]. The Schrödingerization technique transforms general linear partial and ordinary differential equations into Schrödinger-type systems, making them suitable for quantum simulation. This is achieved through the warped phase transformation, which maps the equation into a higher-dimensional space. We provide detailed implementations of the method and conduct a comprehensive complexity analysis, which can show up to exponential advantage – with respect to the inverse of the mesh size in high dimensions – compared to its classical counterpart. Specifically, while the classical method requires Oe(d1/233d/2h−d−2) operations, the quantum counterpart requires Oe(d33d/2h−2.5) queries to the block-encoding input models, with the quantum complexity being independent of the dimension d in terms of the inverse mesh size h−1. In the presence of scale, dynamism, uncertainty, and elasticity, cloud engineers face several challenges when allocating resources for cloud-based software services. They should allocate appropriate resources in order to guarantee good quality of services as well as low cost of resources. Self-adaptive ability is needed in this process because engineers' intervention is difficult. Traditional self-adaptive resource allocation methods are policy-driven. Thus, cloud engineers usually have to develop separate sets of rules for each systems in order to allocate resources effectively, which leads to high administrative cost and implementation complexity. Machine learning has made great achievements in many fields, and it can be also applied to resource allocation. In this paper, we present a self-learning and self-adaptive approach to resource allocation for cloud-based software services. For a given cloud-based software service, its QoS model is firstly trained on history data, which is capable to predict the QoS value as output by using the information on workload and allocated resources as inputs. Then, on-line decision-making on resource allocation can be carried out automatically based on genetic algorithm, which is aimed to search reasonable resource allocation plan by using the QoS model. We evaluate our approach on RUBiS benchmark, demonstrating the accuracy of the QoS model over 90% and the improvement of resource utilization by 10%-30%. © 2018 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

On the Schrödingerization method for linear non-unitary dynamics with optimal dependence on matrix queries

The Schrödingerization method converts linear partial and ordinary differential equations with non-unitary dynamics into systems of Schrödinger-type equations with unitary evolution. It does so via the so-called warped phase transformation that maps the original equation into a Schrödinger-type equation in one higher dimension [1,2]. We show that by employing a smooth initialization of the warped phase transform [3], Schrödingerization can in fact achieve optimal scaling in matrix queries. This paper presents the detailed implementation of three smooth initializations for the Schrödingerization method: (a) the cut-off function, (b) the higher-order polynomial interpolation, and (c) the Fourier transform methods, that achieve optimality for (a) and near-optimality for (b) and (c). Optimal puncturing of polar codes with a fixed information set

For a given polar code construction, the existing literature on puncturing for polar codes focuses in finding the optimal puncturing pattern, and then re-selecting the information set. This paper devotes itself to find the optimal puncturing pattern when the information set is fixed. Puncturing the coded bits corresponding to the worst quality bit channels, called the worst quality puncturing (WQP), is proposed, which is analyzed to minimize the bit channel quality loss at the punctured positions. Simulation results show that WQP outperforms the best existing puncturing schemes when the information set is fixed. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a new multiple-traces Poggio-Miller-Chang-Harrington-Wu-Tsai (MT-PMCHWT) equation is proposed to simulate the electromagnetic scattering from microstrip structures. Different from traditional EFIE-PMCHWT method, in this new multiple-traces method, the original object can be decomposed into two independent domains i.e., the exterior region (free space) and interior region (microstrip), and Robin transmission conditions (TCs) is enforced on the interface between exterior and interior regions to ensure the continuity of fields. In comparison to the traditional EFIE-PMCHWT, this new MT-PMCHWT has a better convergence property. Because the continuity of fields is ensured by TCs, the exterior and interior regions can be discretized by non-conformal meshes, which improves the flexibility and efficiency of the proposed methods substantially. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, a compact and miniaturized wideband bandpass filter based on resonant ring loading stepped impedance resonator is designed. The filter designed in this paper uses the resonant ring as the basic resonator unit. By loading the SIR, the passband width of the filter is improved. The 3 dB bandwidth of this filter is 300 MHz, and the relative fractional bandwidth is 15%. Etching a complementary open resonant ring defected ground structure (DGS) on the floor that changes the current distribution on the floor and creates a band gap with passband characteristics, making the filter compact and compact. The size of filter is 3.5 cm * 4.0 cm. The simulation results show that the filter center frequency is 2.0 GHz, the return loss is 29 dB, and the insertion loss is 1.1 dB. The filter introduces two transmission zero points of 1.3 GHz and 2.6 GHz on both sides of the passband, which improves the out-of-band rejection of the filter. The filter structure designed in this paper has the advantages of small size, wide bandwidth and strong stop band rejection, which verifies the feasibility of the filter design.
