Verifiable generation aims to let the large language model (LLM) generate text with supporting documents, which enables the user to flexibly verify the answer and makes the LLM’s output more reliable. Retrieval plays a crucial role in verifiable generation. Specifically, the retrieved documents not only supplement knowledge to help the LLM generate correct answers, but also serve as supporting evidence for the user to verify the LLM’s output. However, the widely used retrievers become the bottleneck of the entire pipeline and limit the overall performance. Their capabilities are usually inferior to LLMs since they often have much fewer parameters than the large language model and have not been demonstrated to scale well to the size of LLMs. If the retriever does not correctly find the supporting documents, the LLM can not generate the correct and verifiable answer, which overshadows the LLM’s remarkable abilities. To address these limitations, we propose LLatrieval (Large Language Model Verified Retrieval), where the LLM updates the retrieval result until it verifies that the retrieved documents can sufficiently support answering the question. Thus, the LLM can iteratively provide feedback to retrieval and facilitate the retrieval result to fully support verifiable generation. Experiments on ALCE show that LLatrieval significantly outperforms extensive baselines and achieves state-of-the-art results. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

The primary objective in aircraft transportation is to minimize turbulent drag, thereby conserving energy and reducing emissions. We propose a sector-shaped counter-flow dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator, which leverages jet synthesis for drag reduction. A drag control experiment was conducted in a low-speed wind tunnel with a controlled flow velocity of 9.6 m/s(Re = 1.445 × 10^(4)). This study investigated the effects of varying pulse frequencies and actuation voltages on the turbulent boundary layer. Using a hot-wire measurement system, we analyzed the pulsating and time-averaged velocity distributions within the boundary layer to evaluate the streamwise turbulent drag reduction. The results show that the local TDR decreases as the pulse frequency increases, reaching a maximum reduction of approximately 20.97% at a pulse frequency of 50 Hz. In addition, as the actuation voltage increases, the friction coefficient decreases, increasing the drag reduction rate. The maximum drag reduction of approximately 33.34% is achieved at an actuation voltage of 10 kV.

Attentive Neighborhood Feature Augmentation for Semi-supervised Learning

Recent state-of-the-art semi-supervised learning(SSL)methods usually use data augmentations as core *** methods,however,are limited to simple transformations such as the augmentations under the instance’s naive representations or the augmentations under the instance’s semantic *** tackle this problem,we offer a unique insight into data augmentations and propose a novel data-augmentation-based semi-supervised learning method,called Attentive Neighborhood Feature Aug-mentation(ANFA).The motivation of our method lies in the observation that the relationship between the given feature and its neighborhood may contribute to constructing more reliable transformations for the data,and further facilitating the classifier to distinguish the ambiguous features from the low-dense ***,we first project the labeled and unlabeled data points into an embedding space and then construct a neighbor graph that serves as a similarity measure based on the similar representations in the embedding ***,we employ an attention mechanism to transform the target features into augmented ones based on the neighbor ***,we formulate a novel semi-supervised loss by encouraging the predictions of the interpolations of augmented features to be consistent with the corresponding interpolations of the predictions of the target *** carried out exper-iments on SVHN and CIFAR-10 benchmark datasets and the experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods when the number of labeled examples is limited.

The article examines issues of ecological safety of drinking water. The Jeyranbatan reservoir, which supplies drinking water to the cities of Baku and Sumgayit, was selected as an object. The anthropogenic and natural factors that may affect the Jeyranbatan reservoir are analyzed. On the basis of geoinformation systems, a complex multilevel structure of an environmental monitoring system of the reservoir is proposed. As a mathematical apparatus, the monitoring measurements are considered as time series. To build a unified system based on the monitored parameters, subbases are formed to facilitate the processing of various indicators, a functional is constructed, and a comparative analysis of the obtained results is given. © 2023 IEEE.

Endowing machines with abstract reasoning ability has been a long-term research topic in artificial intelligence. Raven's Progressive Matrix (RPM) is widely used to probe abstract visual reasoning in machine intelligence, where models will analyze the underlying rules and select one image from candidates to complete the image matrix. Participators of RPM tests can show powerful reasoning ability by inferring and combining attribute-changing rules and imagining the missing images at arbitrary positions of a matrix. However, existing solvers can hardly manifest such an ability in realistic RPM tests. In this paper, we propose a deep latent variable model for answer generation problems through Rule AbstractIon and SElection (RAISE). RAISE can encode image attributes into latent concepts and abstract atomic rules that act on the latent concepts. When generating answers, RAISE selects one atomic rule out of the global knowledge set for each latent concept to constitute the underlying rule of an RPM. In the experiments of bottom-right and arbitrary-position answer generation, RAISE outperforms the compared solvers in most configurations of realistic RPM datasets. In the odd-one-out task and two held-out configurations, RAISE can leverage acquired latent concepts and atomic rules to find the rule-breaking image in a matrix and handle problems with unseen combinations of rules and attributes. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. Labeled Multi-Bernoulli Maneuvering Target Tracking Algorithm via TSK Iterative Regression Model

Aiming at the problem that the existing labeled multi-Bernoulli(LMB) method has a single and fixed model set, an LMB maneuvering target tracking algorithm via Takagi-Sugeno-Kang(TSK) iterative regression multiple model is proposed. In the TSK iterative regression modeling, the feature information of the targets is analyzed and represented by multiple semantic fuzzy sets. Then the state is expanded to introduce model information, thereby the adaptive multi-model idea is incorporated into the framework of the LMB method to solve the uncertain maneuverability of moving targets. Finally,the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively achieve maneuvering target tracking in the nonlinear system.

Gaining Technological Autonomy and Social-emotional Support: A Case Study of How and Why Chinese Older Adults Engage with a Semi-acquaintance Online Community

Older adults are often underserved and marginalized in technology engagement due to their reluctance and the barriers they face in adopting and engaging with mainstream technology. However, Pinxiaoquan, a social feature of an e-commerce platform in China, has gained a large number of older users. This work investigates how and why Chinese older adults use Pinxiaoquan, aiming to unveil the underlying logic and inspire technology-inclusive design for older adults. To this end, we conducted a mixed-methods qualitative study over two years, which included online observation, and semi-interview. We found that Pinxiaoquan’s success among Chinese older adults is mainly due to its ability to inspire technological autonomy and provide social-emotional support. Rather than simply lowering technical barriers or asking them to seek assistance outside the platform, Pinxiaoquan builds a semi-acquaintance online community based on location and social ties that allows older adults to realize technical support mutually. Pinxiaoquan also fulfills their social-emotional needs, such as free online expression, memory creation and preservation, relationship expansion and maintenance, and a sense of value. Our research contributes to the HCI community by highlighting the importance of improving older adults’ technology autonomy following their specific social and cultural background and social-emotional needs. This work also provides unique insights and implications for building inclusive technology for the growing aging population. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Deep semantic network for hyperspectral image classification using enhanced bifurcation and light self-Gaussian attention mechanism

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are widely used in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification due to their strong feature extraction capabilities. Nevertheless, CNN-based classification methods face challenges in capturing deep semantic features effectively, and as the number of layers increases, computational expenses escalate significantly. In addition, spatial locations and spectral bands in HSI data have varying discriminative power. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach, DSNet, which integrates a multiway attention mechanism with a CNN-based deep semantic network to improve HSI classification. First, we extract shallow abstract features using a module that combines 3D and 2D convolution layers, followed by transformation through a Gaussian-weighted feature tokenizer. Second, we introduce an enhanced bifurcation attention mechanism with dynamically adjustable perceptual ranges to capture spatial semantic information from both horizontal and vertical perspectives. Third, a convolutional multilayer perceptron module is employed to extract high-level feature representations in both spatial and spectral dimensions, which are then refined by a light self-Gaussian attention module. Finally, a linear layer is used to determine the sample labels. Experiments conducted on three publicly available hyperspectral datasets illustrate that the proposed DSNet achieves superior performance compared with several contemporary state-of-the-art methods, even when trained with limited samples. © 2025 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Distributed Fixed-Time Dynamic Event-Triggered Algorithm for Economic Dispatch in Smart Grids Over Directed Networks

A fresh algorithm is presented for tackling the economic dispatch problem (EDP) in smart grids with directed network topology. This algorithm is based on distributed consensus and aims to minimize the total cost of power generation while maintaining the balance between power supply and demand and complying with generation capacity restrictions. Even with unknown and bounded disturbances, this algorithm can achieve optimal dispatch within a fixed time. In addition, an expected settling time can be calculated, which is a more accurate upper bound estimation that relies solely on the generators' initial conditions. Meanwhile, the dynamic event-triggered strategy is employed for reducing sampling frequency and network resource consumption. Finally, numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the designed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.
