Runoff forecasting plays a crucial role in water resource management and flood mitigation, but it often faces significant challenges due to data deficiency and decentralized datasets. Inadequate hydrological data in many watersheds hinders the development of accurate prediction models, while organizational barriers and concerns about data privacy lead to information silos, preventing effective collaborative modeling. To address these issues, we propose FedHydroDSW, a novel personalized federated learning framework for runoff forecasting in data-scarce watersheds. Our approach enables decentralized model training across multiple organizations without requiring direct data sharing, thus preserving data privacy. FedHydroDSW incorporates unique model similarity metrics and parameter adaptation methods, utilizing insights from data-rich areas to refine forecasts in data-scarce regions. Experiments on the CAMELS dataset show that FedHydroDSW significantly outperforms standalone and conventional federated learning methods, with an average 30.1% increase in NSE, and reductions of 28% in RAE and 26.6% in RMSE across multiple data-scarce basins. By enabling secure cross-silo learning, our FedHydroDSW strategy paves the way toward more equitable runoff forecasting globally. The customized training and pattern recognition techniques represent major progress in deploying federated intelligence for impactful hydrological predictions. Dual AAV Cluster-Assisted Maritime Physical-Layer Secure Communications via Collaborative Beamforming

Autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs) can be utilized as relay platforms to assist maritime wireless communications. However, complex channels and multipath effects at sea can adversely affect the quality of AAV transmitted signals. Collaborative beamforming (CB) can enhance the signal strength and range to assist the AAV relay for remote maritime communications. However, due to the open nature of AAV channels, security issue requires special consideration. This article proposes a dual AAV cluster-assisted system via CB to achieve physical-layer security in maritime wireless communications. Specifically, one AAV cluster forms a maritime AAV-enabled virtual antenna array (MUVAA) relay to forward data signals to the remote legitimate vessel, and the other AAV cluster forms an MUVAA jammer to send jamming signals to the remote eavesdropper. In this system, we formulate a secure and energy-efficient maritime communication multiobjective optimization problem (SEMCMOP) to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legitimate vessel, minimize the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel and minimize the total flight energy consumption of AAVs. Since the SEMCMOP is an NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem, we propose an improved swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with chaotic solution initialization and hybrid solution update strategies to solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other comparison algorithms, and it can achieve more efficient signal transmission by using the CB-based method. © 2014 IEEE.

The rapid development of multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) has positioned visual storytelling as a crucial area in content creation. However, existing models often struggle to maintain temporal, spatial, and narrative coherence across image sequences and frequently lack the depth and engagement of human-authored stories. To address these challenges, we propose Story with Large Language and Vision Assistant (StoryLLaVA), a novel framework for enhancing visual storytelling. Our approach introduces a Topic-Driven Narrative Optimizer (TDNO) that improves both the training data and MLLM models by integrating image descriptions, topic generation, and GPT-4-based refinements. Furthermore, we employ a preference-based ranked story sampling method that aligns model outputs with human storytelling preferences through positive-negative pairing. These two phases of the framework differ in their training methods: the former uses supervised fine-tuning, while the latter incorporates reinforcement learning with positive and negative sample pairs. Experimental results demonstrate that StoryLLaVA outperforms current models in visual relevance, coherence, and fluency, with LLM-based evaluations confirming the generation of richer and more engaging narratives. Modern agricultural machinery relies on high-accuracy navigation systems;however, the common loosely coupled (LC) solution of dual-antenna global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and micro-electromechanical system inertial navigation system (MEMS INS) often fails to meet accuracy requirements in complex environments. Theoretically, the tightly coupled (TC) solution of the dual-antenna baseline constraint and MEMS INS offers better attitude accuracy. However, its state space is incomplete, comprising only attitude, gyro biases, and ambiguity. Moreover, previous studies have not conducted a state observability analysis on this model, which is essential for understanding its state estimation capabilities. Therefore, we derived the TC model of dual-antenna baseline constraint and MEMS INS within a complete state space and performed an observability analysis. Based on these results and considering computational efficiency, we integrated this model into the GNSS/MEMS INS TC model using federated filtering. To further improve the algorithm’s accuracy in complex agricultural environments, an adaptive robust positioning algorithm is proposed based on turning state detection. The proposed algorithm was validated through three sets of experiments, demonstrating position accuracy within 2 cm in both open and slightly occluded environments, with heading accuracy within 0.6°, and maintaining optimal accuracy even in severely occluded environments. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Cross-modal retrieval is crucial in understanding latent correspondences across modalities. However, existing methods implicitly assume well-matched training data, which is impractical as real-world data inevitably involves imperfect alignments, i.e., noisy correspondences. Although some works explore similarity-based strategies to address such noise, they suffer from sub-optimal similarity predictions influenced by modality-exclusive information (MEI), e.g., background noise in images and abstract definitions in texts. This issue arises as MEI is not shared across modalities, thus aligning it in training can markedly mislead similarity predictions. Moreover, although intuitive, directly applying previous cross-modal disentanglement methods suffers from limited noise tolerance and disentanglement efficacy. Inspired by the robustness of information bottlenecks against noise, we introduce DisNCL, a novel information-theoretic framework for feature Disentanglement in Noisy Correspondence Learning, to adaptively balance the extraction of modality-invariant information (MII) and MEI with certifiable optimal cross-modal disentanglement efficacy. DisNCL then enhances similarity predictions in modality-invariant subspace, thereby greatly boosting similarity-based alleviation strategy for noisy correspondences. Furthermore, DisNCL introduces soft matching targets to model noisy many-to-many relationships inherent in multi-modal inputs for noise-robust and accurate cross-modal alignment. Extensive experiments confirm DisNCL’s efficacy by 2% average recall improvement. Mutual information estimation and visualization results show that DisNCL learns meaningful MII/MEI subspaces, validating our theoretical analyses. © 1992-2012 IEEE.

With the ongoing advancement of deep learning, modern network intrusion detection systems increasingly favor utilizing deep learning networks to improve their ability to learn traffic characteristics. To address the challenge of obtaining a substantial amount of labeled training data, many intrusion detection systems now focus on unsupervised anomaly detection methods. Despite this shift, researchers still face the daunting task of distinguishing a significant volume of anomalous traffic and dealing with data imbalance. To address these real-world challenges, we introduce UARC, a system capable of achieving unsupervised anomaly traffic detection through multi-clustering. UARC utilizes an enhanced U-shaped autoencoder and a feature fusion method incorporating Masked Retnet to effectively extract spatiotemporal features from network traffic. It combines these techniques with the HDBSCAN algorithm for multi-clustering of traffic, providing a form of reverse guidance for network learning. Experimental results on multiple datasets demonstrate that UARC can cluster various types of traffic with an impressive accuracy rate of up to 97.96%, while achieving a 99.70% AUC value for anomaly detection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

How to Mitigate Information Loss in knowledge Graphs for GraphRAG: Leveraging Triple Context Restoration and Query-Driven Feedback

knowledge Graph (KG)-augmented Large Language Models (LLMs) have recently propelled significant advances in complex reasoning tasks, thanks to their broad domain knowledge and contextual awareness. Unfortunately, current methods often assume KGs to be complete, which is impractical given the inherent limitations of KG construction and the potential loss of contextual cues when converting unstructured text into entity-relation triples. In response, this paper proposes the Triple Context Restoration and Query-driven Feedback (TCR-QF) framework, which reconstructs the textual context underlying each triple to mitigate information loss, while dynamically refining the KG structure by iteratively incorporating query-relevant missing knowledge. Experiments on five benchmark question-answering datasets substantiate the effectiveness of TCR-QF in KG and LLM integration, where it achieves a 29.1% improvement in Exact Match and a 15.5% improvement in F1 over its state-of-the-art GraphRAG competitors. © 2025, CC BY.

Device-edge collaborative occluded face recognition method based on cross-domain feature fusion

The lack of facial features caused by wearing masks degrades the performance of facial recognition systems. Traditional occluded face recognition methods cannot integrate the computational resources of the edge layer and the device layer. Besides, previous research fails to consider the facial characteristics including occluded and unoccluded parts. To solve the above problems, we put forward a device-edge collaborative occluded face recognition method based on cross-domain feature fusion. Specifically, the device-edge collaborative face recognition architecture gets the utmost out of maximizes device and edge resources for real-time occluded face recognition. Then, a cross-domain facial feature fusion method is presented which combines both the explicit domain and the implicit domain facial. Furthermore, a delay-optimized edge recognition task scheduling method is developed that comprehensively considers the task load, computational power, bandwidth, and delay tolerance constraints of the edge. This method can dynamically schedule face recognition tasks and minimize recognition delay while ensuring recognition accuracy. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves an average gain of about 21% in recognition latency, while the accuracy of the face recognition task is basically the same compared to the baseline method. © 2024

Enhancing Human Pose Estimation in the Internet of Things via Diffusion Generative Models

With the ongoing development of public video surveillance technology, accurate human pose estimation is becoming increasingly important in urban administration and law enforcement. However, existing methods rely on large-scale dense annotations, which are labor-intensive and time-consuming. To tackle this, we propose SparsePose which leverages training videos with sparse annotations (labeled every k frames) to learn to propagate temporal poses that help to estimate the poses in unlabeled frames. Technically, we engage in a novel dual-branch architecture that combines 1) pose forecasting of the consecutive neighboring frames with 2) visual clues of the current frame and the nearest labeled frames. We theoretically derive the intra-branch and inter-branch mutual information loss to supervise that maximized pose-relevant features are extracted from the current frame and different branches complement each other to approach precise pose estimation. Additionally, we propose a diffusion generative enhancement, which improves the robustness of the model to challenging scenes from the perspective of diversity. Empirical results show that our method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in sparsely labeled pose estimation on three benchmark datasets. © 2025 IEEE.
