This paper presents a novel extended multi-structure local binary pattern (EMSLBP) approach for high-resolution image classification, generalizing the well-known local binary pattern (LBP) approach. In the proposed EMSLBP approach, three-coupled descriptors with multi-structure sampling are proposed to extract complementary features (pixel value and radial difference) from local image patches. The anisotropic features derived from elliptical sampling are also rotation invariant by averaging the histograms over rotational angles and combined with the isotropic features extracted from circular sampling. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively capture local spatial pattern and local contrast, consistently outperforming several state-of-the-art classification algorithms.

Mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring systems have sprung up owing to the considerable interest attracted to wireless body area networks (WBAN). The long-term acquisition process for ECG produces large amount of data, which puts forward high demand on sensor lifetime. Fortunately, compressive sensing (CS) theory has been proved useful in energy saving by compressing signal in certain degree and fulfilling transmission. However, the reconstruction error will increase with fixed compression ratio since users or the sparsity of ECG signal will change during monitoring process. This paper concerns the flexibility and reconstruction quality problem existed in traditional CS-based ECG signal processing. One adaptive ECG compression scheme inspired by closed-loop control theory is proposed, in which the compression ratio can be adjusted according to both real-time reconstruction error and prior knowledge support. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the compression performance of 10.83% compared with traditional CS-based methods.

In this paper, we study the collective obstacle avoidance problem when only part of agents is informed of obstacle information. The control protocol is proposed to lead second order agents trend to state consensus in the existence of smooth convex obstacles. Both the position and velocity of agents will trend to the same. The moving obstacles which have varying acceleration can also be avoid, even without acceleration sensor. We prove the convergence and collision avoidance of multi-agent system. A simulation demonstrates the effect of the proposed control protocol.

We study the relay station (RS) sleep control mechanism in green relay-assisted cellular networks where the base station (BS) is powered by grid power and the RSs are powered by renewable energy. Our motivation is to reduce the grid power consumption of the BS and improve users' quality of service (QoS) at the same time by adopting green RSs. However, due to the uncertainty and stochastic characteristics of the renewable energy, power supply for RSs is not always sufficient. Thus the harvested energy needs to be scheduled appropriately to cater to the dynamic traffic so as to maximize the energy saving in the long term. An optimization problem is formulated to find the optimal sleep ratio of RSs to match the time variation of energy harvesting and traffic arrival. To make full use of the renewable energy, green-RS-first principle is adopted in the user association process. The optimal RS sleeping policy is obtained through dynamic programming (DP) approach, which divides the original optimization problem into per-stage subproblems. A reduced DP algorithm and a greedy algorithm are further proposed to greatly reduce the computation complexity. By simulations, the reduced DP algorithm outperforms the greedy algorithm in achieving satisfactory energy saving and QoS performance.

In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of Chinese stock market from a complex network perspective, based on daily uctuations of all stocks during 1906 working day period from 2005 to 2012. In the network being constructed, each node is a stock, and each edge indicates the time correlation coef cient of two stocks over a window of T days. The network evolves chronologically as the window slides in forward time at a ΔT-days interval. By examining the variation of the network parameters as time elapses, we show that the degree distributions of Chinese stock market networks are heavy-tailed, but cannot follow the power-law when the Chinese stock market experiences a bear market. And the edge density is exceedingly large at the bearish periods. Moreover, we discuss how a network approach can be used to build a well-diversi ed portfolio. We nd that investments in stocks that occupy central, highly connected in the Chinese stock network outperform after the intervention of positive policy.

With the large-scale application of modern information technology in networked controlsystems (NCSs), the security of networked controlsystems has drawn more and more attention in recent years. However, how far the NCSs can be affected by adversaries are few considered. In this paper, we consider a stability problem for NCSs under denial-of-service (DoS) attacks in which control and measurement packets are transmitted over the communication networks. We model the NCSs under DoS attacks as a singular system, where the effect of the DOS attack is described as a time-varying delay. By a Wirtinger-based integral inequality, a less conservative attack-based delay-dependent criterion for NCSs' stability is obtained in term of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of our methods.
