This study delves into the critical role of attitude control in downhole directional drilling tools, focusing on the complex coupling between inclination and azimuth in the motion model, particularly the time-varying nature of azimuth adjustments. By implementing separate control strategies for inclination and azimuth, the research integrates a comprehensive hybrid control system. It rigorously examines the stability of the closed-loop systems and validates the effectiveness and applicability of the hybrid control method through extensive simulations. The system demonstrates significant robustness and adaptability, enhancing drilling precision and efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

In a multi-camera system, based on Binocular vision, choosing the best camera combination is one of the effective ways to improve measurement accuracy. When multi-cameras layout and intrinsic parameters are fixed, the angle and the distance from cameras to object are two main factors influencing the pose measurement result. From the perspective of object’s observability and image resolution, the mathematic relation between measurement error and the angle, distance from cameras to object is derived which forms the weighting formula whose high value corresponds to the best camera combination. Comprehensive simulation is conducted, proving that the proposed method can decrease the measurement error by 55% compared with former methods, and even by 94% in some occasions. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Biomedical data contain valuable information which contributes to the prediction of clinical disease risk. However, the presence of redundant and irrelevant features will diminish prediction accuracy and augment model complexity. According to our research, MultiSURF is a famous feature selection method but falls short in eliminating redundant features. To address this constraint, this paper introduced an improved MultiSURF method known as EN-MultiSURF. The proposed method integrated the strengths of Elastic Net and MultiSURF, which is capable of detecting similarity between features as well as eliminating redundant and irrelevant features. The proposed method was compared with Relief, MultiSURF, Elastic Net, Random Forest and Decision Tree on one binary along with four multiclass numerical datasets. The experimental results substantiated that our method surpassed other methods and exhibited a higher degree of consistency with medical prior knowledge, which established itself as a valuable tool for biomedical data mining. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to its high degree of customization, DNA origami provides a versatile platform with which to engineer nanoscale structures and devices. Reconfigurable nanodevices driven by DNA strand displacement accomplish the task of transition between different conformations, endowing DNA origami with application values. Herein, we propose a strategy to regulate the conformation of DNA origami using the polymerase-triggered DNA strand displacement (PTSD) reaction. We design a book-shaped DNA origami structure consisting of four pages connected into a cuboid shape. The PTSD reactions initiated by different primer strands selectively remove the connecting strand, transforming the nano book into a two-page or a four-page conformation. We utilize three primer strands to remove thirty-five connecting strands and construct three conformations of the identical DNA origami, illustrating that the PTSD reaction is an effective tool for the reconfiguration of DNA origami. The statistical results of TEM images prove the effectiveness of the proposed method. Our work on the development of PTSD-driven reconfigurable nanostructure will offer a new way to create intelligent materials for advanced nanotechnology applications. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Translation efforts from natural language to code generation have achieved great success with large pre-trained language models. However, selecting the correct code output for the problem posed by the generated set of candidate codes is still challenging. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing an outcome-based quality-aware reordering method for code selection. This method scores each code by whether the set of candidate codes passes the test cases or not as a reference to select the top k best code outputs. In addition, this method depends on the quality and number of test cases. However, it is impractical to manually create a large number of test cases for each problem, so this paper adopts an automated approach that utilizes the current model to generate test cases for each problem. The experimental results show that the approach proposed in this paper obtains a significant improvement in the pass@k benchmark for each model, and the correctness and quality of test cases generated automatically using the model are discussed experimentally. Summarizing the experimental results and discussions, the result-based quality-aware reordering method proposed in this paper achieves a significant improvement in solving the problem of selecting the correct output from natural language to code generation, effectively improves the accuracy of evaluation by automating the generation of test cases, and provides an effective solution to improving the correctness of code generation. © 2024 IEEE.

Automated wood defect detection is of great significance for improving wood utilization. However, the stains on the wood surface resemble defect features and it is difficult to distinguish the appearance of wane from defect-free regions. Relying solely on machine vision for extracting surface features of wood makes it difficult to achieve accurate defect detection. To address these challenges, we propose MMDNet, a multimodal detection network that combines point cloud and image data. By adaptively fusing point cloud and image features at multiple stages, the network effectively highlights wood surface defect regions. Additionally, we introduce an Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module into the network, which expands the network's receptive field and enables a comprehensive perception of the defects. Furthermore, we employ a deep supervision strategy to encourage the network to learn discriminative feature representations, enhancing the model's ability to differentiate defect regions. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of our method in detecting defects that are similar to the background and reducing interference from stains. © 2023 IEEE.

Students behavior in the classroom has a close relation with the academic performance of students. With the widespread use of mobile phones, the students are easily distracted by mobile phones during the class. Therefore, analyzing the students behavior in the classroom becomes important to improve the quality of teaching. However, the existing methods for analyzing students behavior in the classroom, such as facial recognition, has low efficiency with large amounts of irrelevant data. And it also raises concerns about privacy and ethical issues. To solve this problem, in this paper, a novel mobile software called EasyClass has been developed to collect and quantify students behaviors. Based on the data collected by EasyClass, we propose to utilize user profiling to study students behavior in the classroom. The clustering algorithm is firstly employed to classify the data and generate semantically tags which describe students behavior in the classroom. Then a sequence and association rule analysis method is used to analyze the behavior tags and generated association rules. The results enable educators and non-expert users to gain a deeper understanding of students behavior in the classroom, and further improve the quality of the classroom teaching. © 2023 IEEE.

In this article, noncooperative target localization and tracking using multiple autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are investigated. The main goal is to improve the target localization accuracy and tracking performance with the range-based information and to solve the problem of unobservability. A pose-based region-optimal (PBRO) algorithm is designed using range-only measurements in the scenario where three AUVs track and locate a noncooperative target. PBRO improves the target localization accuracy by modifying the target pose estimation using range-only measurements and enables the AUVs to have the optimal tracking performance in the obtained uncertainty region by the target motion constraints. Moreover, the proposed tracking strategy can get the maximum observability of the target. The simulation results validate the advantages of PBRO as compared with the alternative algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Emotion Detection in Conversation (EDC) has been implemented in numerous domains and is under increasing attention. The EDC task is highly challenging due to the need to incorporate both the context of the utterance and the identity of the participant. Some existing EDC approaches employ redundant network structures and inadequately model contextual utterances, resulting in limited performance gains. In this work, we devise a Spatio-Temporal scale based Affective neural Network (STANet) in a simplistic and efficacious manner. STANet consists of two main components, i.e., spatial scale network and temporal scale network, which are applied to extract spatial scale and temporal scale information in the conversation, respectively. Prior to spatio-temporal scale modeling, we encode the identity information of participants to examine its impact on the performance of emotion detection. We conduct substantial comparative experiments and ablation studies on three conversational emotion datasets, and the results demonstrate that our STANet realizes superior performance without taking advantage of external knowledge. © 2023 IEEE.
