Industrial cyber-physical systems (ICPS) integrate physical processes with computational and communication technologies in industrial settings. With the support of edge computing technology, it is feasible to schedule large-scale sensors for efficient distributed sensing. In the sensing process, observability is the key to obtaining complete system states, and stochastic scheduling is more suitable considering uncertain factors in wireless communication. However, existing works have limited research on observability in stochastic scheduling. Targeting this issue, we propose an observability-based intelligent distributed edge sensing method (OIDM). Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) methods are adopted to optimize sensing accuracy and power efficiency. Based on the system’s ability to achieve observability, we establish a bridge between observability and the number of successful sensor transmissions. Novel linear approximations of observability criteria are provided, and probabilistic bounds on observability are derived. Furthermore, these bounds guide the design of action space to achieve a probabilistic observability guarantee in stochastic scheduling. Finally, our proposed method is applied to the estimation of slab temperature in industrial hot rolling process, and simulation results validate its effectiveness. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. AMFD: Distillation via Adaptive Multimodal Fusion for Multispectral Pedestrian Detection

Multispectral pedestrian detection has been shown to be effective in improving performance within complex illumination scenarios. However, prevalent double-stream networks in multispectral detection employ two separate feature extraction branches for multi-modal data, leading to nearly double the inference time compared to single-stream networks utilizing only one feature extraction branch. This increased inference time has hindered the widespread employment of multispectral pedestrian detection in embedded devices for autonomous systems. To efficiently compress multispectral object detection networks, we propose a novel distillation method, the Adaptive Modal Fusion Distillation (AMFD) framework. Unlike traditional distillation methods, the AMFD framework fully leverages the original modal features from the teacher network, thereby significantly enhancing the performance of the student network. Specifically, a Modal Extraction Alignment (MEA) module is utilized to derive learning weights for student networks, integrating focal and global attention mechanisms. This methodology enables the student network to acquire optimal fusion strategies independent from that of teacher network without necessitating an additional feature fusion module. Furthermore, we present the SMOD dataset, a well-aligned challenging multispectral dataset for detection. Extensive experiments on the challenging KAIST, LLVIP and SMOD datasets are conducted to validate the effectiveness of AMFD. The results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in both reducing log-average Miss Rate and improving mean Average Precision. Analog in-memory-computing (AIMC) is adopted extensively in non-volatile memory for multibit multiply-and-accumulate (MAC) operation. However, the low-on/off-ratio feature of magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) impedes a high-performance AIMC macro based on spin transfer torque magnetic random access memory (STT-MRAM). Secondly, because of the uncertainty feature of a mixed-signal system under process and voltage variation, a calibration support is indispensable. Moreover, the incompatibility between a nonlinear analog signal and a linear digital signal hinders accurate computation and calibration support. To overcome these challenges, this work proposes a STT-MRAM-AIMC macro featuring: 1) a 2-level-differential cell array and a linear computing scheme with a calibration support in analog domain; 2) an analog-digital-conversion (ADC) system, including a slew-rate-independent voltage-to-time converter (SRIVTC) scheme and a self-triggered time-to-MAC value converter (STTMC) scheme; 3) a compact layout design for high area efficiency. Finally, an average accuracy of 95.44% is obtained under the TT&0.9V corner. By using the calibration strategy, the average accuracy of 97.8% and 88.6% are obtained under FF&0.945V and SS&0.855V separately, with over 30% enhancement. Furthermore, a 1.64~21.18 times area FoM than state of the art is obtained. An energy efficiency of 87.2~312.4 TOPS/W is obtained.

A wideband planar glass antenna with a stable antenna gain is presented in this paper. It consists of a vertical planar glass and a differential feeding structure. The planar glass is used as a radiator, while the differential feeding structure leads to symmetric radiation patterns. The glass antenna operates in a traveling-wave mode. With a small size of 0.50 × 0.06 × 0.76 λ03, it achieves a wide 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 58.15% (1.61–2.93 GHz), alongside a stable antenna gain of 5.5 dBi (where λ0 represents the vacuum wavelength at the central operating frequency). To validate the design, a prototype operating for Long-Term Evolution (LTE) bands was fabricated and measured. The measured results revealed a 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 60.79% (1.50–2.81 GHz). This wideband glass antenna can be used for vehicle communication systems.

The extensive utilization of aircraft as a mode of transportation and the accelerated expansion of the aviation market have imposed heightened expectations on airport scheduling capabilities. To enhance the efficacy of aircraft ground operations and diminish the duration of runway occupation, the analysis of aircraft motion characteristics and the management of their ground taxiing trajectories assume greater significance. This paper provides an overview of aircraft ground taxiing control technology. This paper provides a brief overview of the key parameters and trajectory prediction methods involved in the aircraft landing process. The nonlinear analysis theory is employed to introduce the aircraft brake system stability and heading stability. Subsequently, the results of significant research on ground skidding control laws are presented. The fourth section presents a summary of the issues and technological developments in aircraft ground skid run control and outlines future research priorities in anti-skid brake control. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

A low sidelobe slot array antenna based on ridge gap waveguide (RGW) is presented in this paper. Fed by two-layer RGW structure centrally, the slot array features symmetric field distribution. Offsetting the slots can fine tune the amplitude to obtain a quasi-Taylor distribution, thus resulting in a low sidelobe level. To verify the design idea, an 8-element slot array antenna was designed and simulated. Its simulated impedance bandwidth is found to be 8.9%, with a sidelobe level lower than -20 dB from 76 to 81 GHz.

A decoupling method using a dielectric resonator (DR) is investigated for 1 × 2 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) dipole antenna. The decoupling DR is placed between two dipole antennas separated by a half wavelength. It serves as a parasitic element, creating a neutralization path between the two antenna ports. By adjusting the DR size, the isolation level can be improved obviously. A dual-port antenna system is simulated. An overlapping bandwidth ( $\vert \mathrm{S}_{11}\vert$ < −10 dB & $\vert \mathrm{S}_{21}\vert$ < −20 dB) of 9.2% (3.36-3.61 GHz) is obtained. This design method may find applications in base station antenna arrays.

Feature matching is a fundamental and critical step for many tasks of computer vision. In recent years, many methods for feature matching have been proposed. However, the image alignment algorithm used in the state-of-the-art matching method is not robust enough, and the number of the features extracted from the images are insufficient, thus the performance obtained by the state-of-the-art matching method is unsatisfactory. To address these issues, firstly, we use a more robust geometric estimation algorithm to align image pairs. Secondly, based on aligned image pairs, we design a content-aware block to more focus on effective features by using a feature extractor and a mask predictor. Experimental results show that our method achieves more superior results, and outperforms several classical and deep learning methods on the HPatches dataset. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
