Sea surface salinity (SSS) as an important indicator of ocean water circulation, affects global ecology and climate change. However, the accuracy of L-band satellite sea surface salinity retrieval products has been severely affected in coastal regions due to factors such as Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Land Sea Continuation (LSC). In this study, coastal regions observational data from the Soil Motion Active Passive (SMAP) satellite, and established the LGBM model for SSS retrieval. The results indicated that LGBM performed excellently in the retrieval of SSS in coastal regions. In comparison to in-situ SSS, the LGBM SSS demonstrated a mean bias (MB) of 0.11psu, a root mean squares error (RMSE) of 0.68psu. This paper also added the bias between LGBM SSS and in situ SSS for secondary correction of LGBM. This correction reduced the MB to 0.03psu, the RMSE to 0.54psu. This study affirms the feasibility of using LGBM for SSS retrieval in coastal regions. Future efforts will focus on integrating more auxiliary data that may influence SSS in coastal regions, aiming to further enhance the precision of the coastal regions' SSS retrieval product. © 2024 IEEE.

A chirped Fabry-Perot interferometric (CFPI) sensor based on two chirped 50-μ m fiber Bragg gratings is proposed in this paper. The sensing structure packaged with a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) can balance wide dynamic range and high sensitivity. Combining miniaturized laser source and photodetector, it can achieve accurate detection of human vital signs conveniently. The promising results of heart pulse measurement in real time allow the sensor to be developed as wearable device for prevention and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. © 2024 IEEE.

MAGPNet: Multi-Domain Attention-Guided Pyramid Network for Infrared Small Object Detection

To overcome the obstacles of poor feature extraction and little prior information on the appearance of infrared dim small targets, we propose a multi-domain attention-guided pyramid network (MAGPNet). Specifically, we design three modules to ensure that salient features of small targets can be acquired and retained in the multi-scale feature maps. To improve the adaptability of the network for targets of different sizes, we design a kernel aggregation attention block with a receptive field attention branch and weight the feature maps under different perceptual fields with attention mechanism. Based on the research on human vision system, we further propose an adaptive local contrast measure module to enhance the local features of infrared small targets. With this parameterized component, we can implement the information aggregation of multi-scale contrast saliency maps. Finally, to fully utilize the information within spatial and channel domains in feature maps of different scales, we propose the mixed spatial-channel attention-guided fusion module to achieve high-quality fusion effects while ensuring that the small target features can be preserved at deep layers. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate that our MAGPNet can achieve a better performance over other state-of-the-art methods in terms of the intersection of union, Precision, Recall, and F-measure. In addition, we conduct detailed ablation studies to verify the effectiveness of each component in our network. © 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Reweighting adversarial examples during training plays an essential role in improving the robustness of neural networks,which lies in the fact that examples closer to the decision boundaries are much more vulnerable to being attacked and should be given larger *** probability margin(PM)method is a promising approach to continuously and path-independently mea-suring such closeness between the example and decision ***,the performance of PM is limited due to the fact that PM fails to effectively distinguish the examples having only one misclassified category and the ones with multiple misclassified categories,where the latter is closer to multi-classification decision boundaries and is supported to be more critical in our *** tackle this problem,this paper proposed an improved PM criterion,called confused-label-based PM(CL-PM),to measure the closeness mentioned above and reweight adversarial examples during ***-cally,a confused label(CL)is defined as the label whose prediction probability is greater than that of the ground truth label given a specific adversarial *** of considering the discrepancy between the probability of the true label and the probability of the most misclassified label as the PM method does,we evaluate the closeness by accumulating the probability differences of all the CLs and ground truth ***-PM shares a negative correlation with data vulnerability:data with larger/smaller CL-PM is safer/riskier and should have a smaller/larger *** demonstrated that CL-PM is more reliable in indicating the closeness regarding multiple misclassified categories,and reweighting adversarial training based on CL-PM outperformed state-of-the-art counterparts.

Terahertz (THz) technology has become a new trend in various fields due to its high penetration and harmlessness towards human body and objects. The object detection of concealed and hidden objects based on THz images is of great significance for ensuring public safety. However, the poor quality of original THz images leads to insufficient accuracy in target detection. Therefore, it is necessary to preprocess the images before performing object detection. In this work, in order to investigate the impact of different pre-processing methods on object detection using images, we adopt two methods, namely non-local mean (NLM) filtering and histogram equalization (HE). After pre-processing, YOLOv7 algorithm is used to perform object detection based on the preprocessed THz images. The experimental results show that YOLOv7 achieves highest recognition accuracy on NLM filtered THz images. The experimental results presented in this work provide a reference to select image processing method for performing concealed object detection based on THz images. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Traditional single-satellite passive localization algorithms are influenced by frequency and angle measurement accuracies,resulting in error estimation of emitter position on the order of ***,a single-satellite localization algorithm based on passive synthetic aper-ture(PSA)was introduced,enabling high-precision ***,its estimation of azimuth and range distance is considerably affected by the residual frequency offset(RFO)of uncoopera-tive system ***,it requires data containing a satellite flying over the radia-tion source for RFO *** estimating the RFO,an accurate estimation of azimuth and range distance can be carried out,which is difficult to achieve in practical *** LFM radar source passive localization algorithm based on range migration is proposed to address the dif-ficulty in estimating frequency *** algorithm first provides a rough estimate of the pulse repetition time(PRT).It processes intercepted signals through range compression,range interpola-tion,and polynomial fitting to obtain range migration ***,it uses the changing information of range migration and an accurate PRT to formulate a system of nonlinear equations,obtaining the emitter position and a more accurate PRT through a two-step localization *** offset only induces a fixed offset in range migration,which does not affect the changing *** algorithm can also achieve high-precision localization in squint ***,the effectiveness of this algorithm is verified through simulations.

This paper proposes a hierarchical data-driven scheduling-control framework for a multi-machine/mode production system to operate in an energy-efficient manner. At the scheduling layer, the scheduling problem incorporating process dynamics is formulated into a quadratic programming to arrange candidate processing machines/modes and corresponding production objectives. Based on the dynamic linearization model, scheduling results are executed by model-free adaptive control at the control layer. The real-time process output is feedback to the scheduling layer for the next decision-making. The practicality of the proposed framework is validated in a thread-tapping process featuring four distinct operational modes. On average, operating in a single mode maintains output accuracy while saving 14.2% on energy. The multi-mode operation further optimizes energy usage through its capability for dynamic mode switching. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In the domain of systems control, the robust control of fractional-order systems (FOSs) with ellipsoidal parameter uncertainty has received scant attention, even though ellipsoidal uncertainty is significant for quantifying and modeling parameter uncertainties. This paper addresses the gap by focusing on (Formula presented.) analysis and control of FOSs with ellipsoidal parametric uncertainty, where the fractional order is delimited to the range (Formula presented.). Two distinct categories of ellipsoidal parameter uncertainty models are considered: one corresponding to FOSs with uncertain zero positions and the other to FOSs with uncertain pole and zero positions. First, sufficient conditions for the (Formula presented.) performance analysis of FOSs with ellipsoidal parametric uncertainty are established by extending the (Formula presented.) bounded real lemma for FOSs. Next, the problems of (Formula presented.) controller synthesis are analyzed, and the state feedback (Formula presented.) controllers are designed, along with the establishment of sufficient conditions for stabilization. These conditions are given in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Lastly, several numerical examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed results. © 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

In DC microgrids, current sharing and voltage regulation are two main objectives for real-time control, while the operation loss reduction is typically achieved by steady-state optimization. However, the ratio of current sharing is generally determined by the result of the centralized optimization in the classical hierarchical control framework of DC microgrids. Such an issue brings insufficient capability in respond to the changes of photovoltaic power and stored energy in the solar-powered energy systems. To handle this, this work proposes a distributed control scheme for single-bus DC microgrids. Under the proposed controller, the objectives of current sharing, bus voltage regulation and the total operation loss (converter loss and line loss) reduction can be guaranteed simultaneously. Moreover, the constraints on line currents and bus voltage are tackled as well. Finally, simulations verify the performance of the proposed control scheme. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.
