The capacity and capacity-achieving distribution for intensity-modulation and direct-detection (IM-DD) fiber-optic channels is theoretically investigated. Different from coherent fiber-optic channels, we indicate that the capacity-achieving distribution of IM-DD systems should be discussed separately in two cases: 1) IM-DD systems without optical amplifier, which are constrained in peak power;2) IM-DD systems with optical amplifier, which are the average power constraint (APC) system. For the two models, the maximum mutual information achieving distribution, instead of the maximum input entropy achieving distribution, is numerically computed by the iterative Blahut-Arimoto (BA) algorithm. For the IM-DD system under peak power constraint (PPC), a dynamic-assignment BA algorithm is applied to find the capacity-achieving distribution with minimum cardinality. It is observed that the maximum difference between the minimum input cardinality and capacity is around 0.8 bits. For a fixed support input cardinality, although the observed shaping gain is small and only appears in low peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) regions in the PPC IM-DD system, the probabilistic shaping technique can also be used to introduce rate adaptation to the system by adjusting the shaping and FEC overheads since the capacity-achieving distribution is symmetric. In the IM-DD system under APC, a modified BA algorithm is investigated to solve for the capacity and capacity-achieving distribution, and a significant shaping gain is observed. For PAM8 and PAM16 modulation formats, 0.294 bits/symbol and 0.531 bits/symbol shaping gain can be obtained at the SNR of 20dB. Furthermore, since the capacity-achieving distribution is asymmetric in this case, a practical discussion of the PS technique is also presented. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The research on coherent direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is of great significance for high-precision DOA estimation in complex electromagnetic environments. However, existing coherent DOA estimation methods do not consider the issue of sensor failure that is prone to occur under harsh environments. In this paper, we propose a tensorial Hankel reconstruction method for coherent DOA estimation with sensor failure. Specifically, by analyzing the tensorial Hankel property of complete incoherent covariance tensor, we design the tensorial Hankel mapping rule to reconstruct a Hankel tensor from a slice of incomplete coherent covariance tensor. Meanwhile, the fiber-missing elements caused by sensor failure are dispersed to higher dimensions in the reconstruction process, ensuring the effectiveness of conventional low-rank tensor completion algorithm. Then, the completed Hankel tensor is proven to admit the canonical polyadic model, which can be decomposed to obtain DOA estimations. Simulation results confirm the advantage of the proposed tensorial Hankel reconstruction method. © 2023 IEEE.

Revisiting Euclidean Alignment for Transfer Learning in EEG-Based Brain-Computer Interfaces

Due to the non-stationarity and large individual differences of EEG signals, EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) usually need subject-specific calibration to tailor the decoding algorithm for each new subject, which is time-consuming and user-unfriendly, hindering their real-world applications. Transfer learning (TL) has been extensively used to expedite the calibration, by making use of EEG data from other subjects/sessions. An important consideration in TL for EEG-based BCIs is to reduce the data distribution discrepancies among different subjects/session, to avoid negative transfer. Euclidean alignment (EA) was proposed in 2020 to address this challenge. Numerous experiments from 10 different BCI paradigms demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency. This paper revisits the EA, explaining its procedure and correct usage, introducing its applications and extensions, and pointing out potential new research directions. It should be very helpful to BCI researchers, especially those who are working on EEG signal decoding. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper investigates the formation problem of multiple fixed-wing unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs) based on virtual leader structure, subjecting to unknown uncertainties and bounded disturbances. A distributed model reference robust adaptive controller (DMRRAC) is proposed to swiftly construct the formation under the existence of flight dynamical uncertainties and external bounded disturbances. An adaptive projection formation operator and a novel high-frequency robust term can guarantee the system to be uniformly asymptotically stable in a complex situation, which can also enhance the performance of the system such as robustness. Ischemic stroke is a high-risk brain disease that causes disability or death in adults worldwide. Rapid diagnosis and treatment, as well as segmentation of ischemic lesions from stroke medical images so that doctors can evaluate and develop treatment plans, are crucial to reducing brain damage. Currently, doctors' manual segmentation of lesions is time-consuming and labor-intensive and prone to missed or misdiagnosed diagnoses, delaying the best time for treatment. A well-trained neural network is considered as an effective aid for image segmentation tasks. However, in the traditional neural network down-sampling process, the pooling layer loses feature information, and the lost information significantly impacts the edge regions. While for medical images, edge regions are crucial features in the segmentation process. Therefore, to address the above issues, in this paper we improve upon the existing stroke lesion segmentation algorithm U-net, we design a segmentation network based on wavelet pooling and attention mechanisms. The network was tested on ISLES 2018 and ISLES 2022 datasets, and the Dice coefficient improved by 2.13% and 1.93% compared to baseline network, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

The detection of soft packaging bags is a key step in the process of soft packaging bags unpacking. Time-of-flight(ToF) camera is used as vision sensor and a multi-scale detection method based on deep learning is proposed to solve the deformation and shielding problems of soft packaging bags. This method is improved on the basis of YOLOv3. Aiming at the texture disorder and shape change caused by the deformation of the soft packaging bags, the deformation convolution is used to replace the standard convolution for feature extraction. In view of the slow detection speed of YOLOv3, the inverted residual module based on depth separable convolution is used to replace the residual module. Aiming at the problem of non-detection caused by the occlusion between soft packaging bags, the loss function in YOLOv3 is improved and the size of anchor box is adjusted. The test is carried out when there were different degrees of shielding between the soft packaging bags and different degrees of deformation of the soft packaging bags. The experimental results show that the detection speed of this method reaches 0.8s/frame, the recall rate reaches 99%, and the relative positioning accuracy reaches 2 cm. © 2021 IEEE.

A wideband antenna-in-package (AiP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented in this paper. Air vias and metallic vias are used to form the equivalent DRA. To obtain a wideband design, a slot-loaded DRA mode and a fundamental DRA mode are simultaneously excited. Two metal strips are attached on the top surface for better impedance matching. To verify the design idea, a prototype is designed with a simulated bandwidth larger than 20 %. It should be mentioned that the presented design is compatible with silicon-based process, and thus suitable for AiP and heterogeneous integration systems. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a new ESD clamp circuit which is co-triggered by RC and diode. It is immune to the false triggering caused by fast power-up events due to the diode detection mechanism. With the addition of a common source amplifier, the detection signal is enhanced, and the clamp device is turned on more quickly. The proposed circuit is designed in a 0.18 μm 1.8-V CMOS process and verified by numerical simulation. The characteristics and improvements of the new circuit are discussed. © 2021 EOS/ESD ASSOCIATION INC.

The growth of Czochralski(CZ) monocrystalline silicon is a nonlinear dynamic time-varying system with complex physical changes and multi-field and multi-phase coupling. In order to meet the needs of information development, it is urgent to develop large-scale, high-quality monocrystalline silicon. However, it is extremely difficult to establish an accurate control system model. Therefore, this paper considers the complex physical changes of multi-field coupling and non-linear processes in the growth of CZ monocrystalline silicon, a lumped parameter model for the growth of monocrystalline silicon is established based on energy balance model, fluid mechanics model, and geometry model, according to the internal mechanism of the monocrystalline silicon growth and the transfer mechanism of internal material flow. According to the model, a CZ monocrystalline silicon growth simulation control system is established under the Matlab/Simulink environment, and the real-time simulation data of each state variable of crystal growth is obtained. So that the control characteristics of each state variable in the crystal growth process can be analyzed. Finally, the validity of the established model is checked by the records evaluation of the semiconductor industry production process. Finally, the validity of the established model is verified based on the data analysis of the semiconductor industry production process. The results show that the model has high accuracy and can better describe the dynamic behavior of the actual monocrystalline silicon growth system. © 2022 IEEE.

This work presents a decoupling method for aperture-coupled patch antenna arrays, especially for millimeter-wave applications since the method is simple in both principle and structure. There is no additional decoupling structure, and the decoupling is achieved by constructing a decoupling path between the feeding line of an element and the feeding aperture of the adjacent element to cancel the original mutual coupling. Although no decoupling operation is utilized between non-adjacent elements, the coupling between them is also reduced. Full-wave simulated results of an example working at 27.5 GHz are provided to verify the effectivity of the decoupling method, from impedance matching, coupling suppression, and radiation performance point of view.
