Exploring Token-Level Augmentation in Vision Transformer for Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Semi-supervised semantic segmentation has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years. However, existing algorithms are based on convolutional neural networks, and directly applying them to Vision Transformers poses certain limitations due to conceptual disparities. To this end, we propose TokenSwap, a data augmentation technique designed explicitly for semi-supervised semantic segmentation with Vision Transformers. TokenSwap aligns well with the global attention mechanism by mixing images at the token level, enhancing the learning capability for contextual information among image patches and the utilization of unlabeled data. We further incorporate image augmentation and feature augmentation to promote the diversity of augmentation. Moreover, to enhance consistency regularization, we propose a dual-branch framework where each branch applies image and feature augmentation to the input image. We conduct extensive experiments across multiple benchmark datasets, including Pascal VOC 2012, Cityscapes, and COCO. Results suggest that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms with notably observed accuracy improvement, especially under limited fine annotations. © 1994-2012 IEEE.

To enhance the convergence capability of grey wolf optimizer (GWO), this research investigates an evolved GWO using weighted-leader strategy (WLS), namely WLSGWO. The key issue of WLS is realizing the adaptive adjustment of position weighting according to the control parameters, thus well overcoming the drawback of premature convergence in the basic GWO. The newly developed method’s performance is assessed through experiments conducted on a standardized test suite. Additionally, comparisons are made by utilizing GWO alongside other advanced optimization techniques. The results of non-parametric studies validate the outperformance of the WLSGWO, thus proving the efficiency of the proposed strategy. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Lawrence Professor emeritus.

Completed Interaction Networks for Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction

The social and environmental interactions, as well as the pedestrian goal are crucial for pedestrian trajectory prediction. This is because they could learn both complex interactions in the scenes and the intentions of the pedestrians. However, most existing methods either learn the one-moment social interactions, or supervise the pedestrian trajectories using long-term goal, resulting in suboptimal prediction performances. In this paper, we propose a novel network named Completed Interaction Network (CINet) to simultaneously consider the social interactions in all moments, the environmental interactions and the short-term goal of pedestrians in a unified framework for pedestrian trajectory prediction. Specifically, we propose the Spatio-Temporal Transformer Layer (STTL) to fully mine the spatio-temporal information among historical trajectories of all pedestrians in order to obtain the social interactions in all moments. Additionally, we present the Gradual Goal Module (GGM) to capture the environmental interactions under the supervision of the short-term goal, which is beneficial to understanding the intentions of the pedestrian. Afterwards, we employ the cross-attention to effectively integrate the all-moment social and environmental interactions. The experimental results on three standard pedestrian datasets, i.e., ETH/UCY, SDD and inD demonstrate that our method achieves a new state-of-the-art performance. Furthermore, the visualization results indicate that our method could predict trajectories more reasonably in complex scenarios such as sharp turns, infeasible areas and so on. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

This paper introduces federated services as a smart service ecology with federated security to align distributed data supply with diversified service demands spanning digital and societal contexts. It presents the comprehensive researches on the theoretical foundation and technical system of federated services, aiming at advancing our understanding and implementation of this novel service paradigm. First, a thorough examination of the characteristics of federated security within federated services is conducted. Then, a five-layer technical framework is formulated under a decentralized intelligent architecture, ensuring secure, agile, and adaptable service provision. On this basis, the operational mechanisms underlying data federation and service confederation is analyzed, with emphasis on the smart supply-demand matching model. Furthermore, a scenario-oriented taxonomy of federated services accompanied by illustrative examples is proposed. Our work offers actionable insights and roadmap for realizing and advancing federated services, contributing to the refinement and wider adoption of this transformative service paradigm in the digital era.

Building intelligence identification system via large language model watermarking: a survey and beyond

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly integrated into diverse industries, posing substantial security risks due to unauthorized replication and misuse. To mitigate these concerns, robust identification mechanisms are widely acknowledged as an effective strategy. Identification systems for LLMs now rely heavily on watermarking technology to manage and protect intellectual property and ensure data security. However, previous studies have primarily concentrated on the basic principles of algorithms and lacked a comprehensive analysis of watermarking theory and practice from the perspective of intelligent identification. To bridge this gap, firstly, we explore how a robust identity recognition system can be effectively implemented and managed within LLMs by various participants using watermarking technology. Secondly, we propose a mathematical framework based on mutual information theory, which systematizes the identification process to achieve more precise and customized watermarking. Additionally, we present a comprehensive evaluation of performance metrics for LLM watermarking, reflecting participant preferences and advancing discussions on its identification applications. Lastly, we outline the existing challenges in current watermarking technologies and theoretical frameworks, and provide directional guidance to address these challenges. Our systematic classification and detailed exposition aim to enhance the comparison and evaluation of various methods, fostering further research and development toward a transparent, secure, and equitable LLM ecosystem.

EK-Net++: Real-time scene text detection with expand kernel distance and Epoch Adaptive Weight

Recently, scene text detection has received significant attention due to its wide applications. Accurate detection in complex scenes of multiple scales, orientations, and curvature remains a challenge. Component-based methods have emerged as the dominant approach for offering a more flexible way to achieve superior performance. However, Component-based methods employ the Vatti clipping algorithm for multi-instance training to handle the difficulty of arbitrary-shaped text. Yet we identify several bias results from these approaches called the "shrinked kernel" leading to decreased accuracy. Additionally, almost all text detection methods fail to consider the characteristics of different datasets and directly assign fixed loss weights to multi-instances. To address these limitations, we propose a new approach named Expand Kernel Network (EK-Net++), which presents the expand kernel distance map to compensate for the previous deficiency and incorporates three-stage regression to complete integral instance detection. Furthermore, we design the Epoch Adaptive Weight algorithm which dynamically distinguishes the characteristics of different datasets. EK-Net++ not only achieves precise positioning of arbitrary-shaped text but also strikes a balance between performance and speed. Evaluation results show that EK-Net++ attains state-of-the-art or competitive performance compared to other advanced methods, e.g., F-measure of 86.72% at 35.42 FPS on ICDAR 2015, F-measure of 85.83% at 40.13 FPS on CTW1500. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
