Nowadays, AI education from Kindergarten to 9 th grade(K-9) is in full swing in China, but many challenges exist, such as fragmented AI curricula, ineffective teaching tools, and uneven educational resources in urban and rural areas, etc. So this paper presents an in-depth study of the current status of K-9 AI education in Qingdao area through questionnaires, expert discussions, and field visits to sort out existing problems and then put forward corresponding advice and suggestions. Collected data is then analyzed from the perspectives of government, schools, teachers, students and parents, respectively. Results show that AI-related educational activities have been carried out in Qingdao area to improve students' AI literacy. But efforts are still needed to make such education more systematic, standardized, and personalized. Finally the paper made a list of recommendations corresponding to these needed efforts.

although online education has improved efficiency of learners' access to high-quality educational resources, real-time interaction between instructors and learners have not yet been achieved in online personalized learning. intelligent Tutoring systems (ITS) provides a feasible way to realize realtime personalized learning guidance and resource recommendations by applying AI to capture and analyze online learners' characteristics and behaviors. In this paper, reviews and trends of ITS are discussed and three challenges of ITS research & development are pointed out: learner model, guidance mechanism and human-computer interaction mechanism. In order to address these issues, parallel intelligence theory is introduced and a parallel intelligence education based ITS framework is proposed.

Social computing, as the technical foundation of future computational smart societies, has the potential to improve the effectiveness of opensource big data usage, systematically integrate a variety of elements including time, human, resources, scenarios, and organizations in the current cyber-physical-social world, and establish a novel social structure with fair information, equal rights, and a flat configuration. Meanwhile, considering the big modeling gap between the model world and the physical world, the concept of parallel intelligence is introduced. With the help of software-defined everything, parallel intelligence bridges the big modeling gap by means of constructing artificial systems where computational experiments can be implemented to verify social policies, economic strategies, and even military operations. Artificial systems play the role of ＂social laboratories＂ in which decisions are computed before they are executed in our physical society. Afterwards, decisions with the expected outputs are executed in parallel in both the artificial and physical systems to interactively sense, compute, evaluate and adjust system behaviors in real-time, leading system behaviors in the physical system converging to those proven to be optimal in the artificial ones. Thus, the smart guidance and management for our society can be achieved.

With increasing popularity of Internet of Vehicles (IoV), concerns for reliable and low complexity communication techniques are proposed due to the requirements of signal reliability and transmission delay for vehicles. Meanwhile, the explosive and pervasive use of social network applications further adds drivers' social relationships and behavioural characteristics into it, and makes it a cyber-physical-social system (CPSS). This paper proposes and analyzes an improved forward scheme for full deplex cooperative vehicular networks in terms of its CPSS features. The proposed CPSS-based forwarding (CPSS-F) strategy forwards a soft estimate of the received signal based on social historic data at the relay node (vehicle/infrastructure) to the destination node (vehicle/infrastructure), which achieves improved reliability than the two conventional strategies in cooperative networks, i.e., amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF). Furthermore, the proposed CPSS-F relay achieves performance gains and complexity reduction compared to the conventional AF and DF. Experimental results further confirm the advantages of the proposed CPSS-F for cooperative vehicular networks. The proposed CPSS-F approach is easily extended to other cooperative vehicular social networks, for example, multi-way, half-duplex, or large-antenna networks. © 2018 IEEE.

We address robust stabilization problem for networked control systems with nonlinear uncertainties and packet losses by modelling such systems as a class of uncertain switched systems. Based on theories on switched Lyapunov functions, we derive the robustly stabilizing conditions for state feedback stabilization and design packet-loss dependent controllers by solving some matrix inequalities. A numerical example and some simulations are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

FSPM Plant and crop models are popular in the research community and there is increasing interest in their applications, from yield prediction to crop management optimization. A wide range of approaches and their software implementation can be found in the literature, with a large diversity in modelling scale (from plant organ to plot levels) and scope (structural, functional or both), as well as generic or specific aim. However, most of these approaches rely on similar key assumptions and methods related to different disciplines: Botany for plant structure, eco-physiology for production, statistics and dynamic system theory for parameter identification and estimation. Web disseminated plant and crop models learning supports are not numerous, often specific, and partial. We present here a set of e-learning resources, named 'Plant growth architecture and production dynamics' which describes the main notions from plant morphology and architecture, eco-physiology and applied mathematics necessary to the understanding of most plant and crop models, and their typology. In this paper, after an overview of existing learning resources on plant and crop modelling which, we believe, might be of interest for the whole research community, we present the proposed resource, which uses the GreenLab model as illustration, organized as follows: •Five standalone introductive disciplinary resources: Botanical notions, assumptions in eco-physiology, basis in data processing, introduction to models, introduction to GreenLab •An FSPM example in more details: GreenLab positioning, its basis, structure modelling, production modelling, and applications including model fitting and a study case •Tools: Inline (for structure analysis and statistics), online (access to fitters for instance) and access to download simulators and their documentation •Glossary, bibliography, web site collection, and a pedagogic kit for instructors Supported by the French Sustainable Development Virtual University

Flexibility and robustness have become key points in the development of surgical robot controller for physical interactions. However, the conventional impedance control schemes unaware of the actual surgical scenario, including complex physical interaction on the robot arm, lead to the loss of accuracy. In this paper, a hierarchical task impedance control scheme is proposed for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) based on an operational space formulation of a 7 DoFs redundant robot. Its redundancy is exploited to guarantee a remote center of motion (RCM) constraint and to provide a flexible workspace for the medical staff to assist physicians. In addition to the achievement of the classical whole-body impedance control, the issue of uncertain disturbances will be addressed by a decoupled adaptive approximation based on a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) within the control framework. Task performances under the hierarchical task impedance controller were validated and compared with previous work in the literature. Experimental results showed its improved performance in terms of positional error and RCM constraint, regardless of the existing uncertain physical interaction.

This paper presents a generic video vehicle detection approach through multiple background-based features and statistical learning. The main idea is to configure several virtual loops (as detection zones) on the image, assuming moving vehicles may cause pixel intensities and local texture to change, and then by identifying such pixel changes to detect vehicles. In this research, multiple pattern classifiers including LDA + Adaboost, SVM, and Random Forests are used to detect vehicles that are passing through virtual loops. We extract fourteen pattern features (related to foreground area, texture change, and luminance and contrast in the local virtual loop zone and the global image) to train pattern classifiers and then detect vehicles. As experimental results illustrate, the proposed approach is quite robust to detect vehicles under complex dynamic environments, and thus is able to improve the accuracy of traffic data collection in all weather for long term.

Distributed synchronous and asynchronous algorithms for semi-definite programming with diagonal constraints

This paper develops distributed synchronous and asynchronous algorithms for the large-scale semi-definite programming with diagonal constraints, which has wide applications in combination optimization, image processing and community detection. The information of the semi-definite programming is allocated to multiple interconnected agents such that each agent aims to find a solution by communicating to its neighbors. Based on low-rank property of solutions and the Burer-Monteiro factorization, we transform the original problem into a distributed optimization problem over unit spheres to reduce variable dimensions and ensure positive semi-definiteness without involving semi-definite projections, which are computationally expensive. For the distributed optimization problem, we propose distributed synchronous and asynchronous algorithms, both of which reduce computational burden and storage space compared with existing centralized algorithms. Specifically, the distributed synchronous algorithm almost surely escapes strict saddle points and converges to the set of optimal solutions to the optimization problem. In addition, the proposed distributed asynchronous algorithm allows communication delays and converges to the set of critical points to the optimization problem under mild conditions. By applying proposed algorithms to image segmentation applications, we illustrate the efficiency and convergence performance of the two proposed algorithms. © 2021, CC BY.

Distributed stochastic gradient tracking algorithm with variance reduction for non-convex optimization

This paper proposes a distributed stochastic algorithm with variance reduction for general smooth non-convex finite-sum optimization, which has wide applications in signal processing and machine learning communities. In distributed setting, large number of samples are allocated to multiple agents in the network. Each agent computes local stochastic gradient and communicates with its neighbors to seek for the global optimum. In this paper, we develop a modified variance reduction technique to deal with the variance introduced by stochastic gradients. Combining gradient tracking and variance reduction techniques, this paper proposes a distributed stochastic algorithm, GT-VR, to solve large-scale non-convex finite-sum optimization over multi-agent networks. A complete and rigorous proof shows that the GT-VR algorithm converges to first-order stationary points with O(k1) convergence rate. In addition, we provide the complexity analysis of the proposed algorithm. Compared with some existing first-order methods, the proposed algorithm has a lower O(PMΕ−1) gradient complexity under some mild condition. By comparing state-of-the-art algorithms and GT-VR in experimental simulations, we verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. © 2021, CC BY.
