The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision have revolutionized intelligent security systems, addressing challenges related to cost, efficiency, and scalability. This paper investigates the application of Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML) on the RISC-V platform, utilizing the Efinix Ti60 F225 FPGA for real-time person detection. The study aims to harness the energy efficiency, flexibility, and scalability of the RISC-V architecture to develop a cost-effective and sustainable solution for intelligent security applications. The proposed system combines the YOLO model for person detection with TinyML techniques, enabling real-time processing while maintaining an accuracy of 80% for individuals within a 2-meter range. Hardware components, such as the Raspberry Pi Camera Module V2 and Mini DSI Panel, were employed to capture and display real-time imagery. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrated the system's performance advantages, including reduced latency, low power consumption, and minimal bandwidth usage, emphasizing the benefits of deploying AI at the edge. Although challenges such as environmental variability and memory limitations were encountered, the findings highlighted the potential of integrating TinyML with RISC-V platforms for intelligent security applications. The results contributed to the field of edge computing and open-source hardware, presenting a viable approach to energy-efficient and scalable AI solutions. Future research will focus on overcoming hardware constraints, extending the detection range, and incorporating adaptive learning capabilities to enhance system robustness and functionality further.

field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are flexible programmable devices that are used in a wide variety of applications. The flexibility of the FPGA hinders its performance due to the additional logic resources required for programmable hardware. The paper proposes a high speed SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) FPGA design co-integrated with CMOS in an IBM BICMOS process. This device would be bitwise compatible with the Xilinx 6200, with operating frequencies in the 1-20 GHz range. To reduce power dissipation, the configuration bits used to define the FPGA's function will be stored in CMOS memory. Further power savings can be accomplished by integrating CMOS control into bipolar current trees and using a switchable current mirror to turn off unused current trees. The speed of bipolar combined with power savings of CMOS can now be merged to produce a new family of high speed FPGAs.

Reconfigurable computers based on field programmable gate array technology allow applications to be realised directly in digital logic. The inherent concurrency of hardware distinguishes such computers from microprocessor-based machines in which the concurrency of the underlying hardware is fixed and abstracted from the programmer by the software model. However, reconfigurable logic provides us with the potential to exploit 'real' concurrency. It is therefore interesting to know how to exploit this concurrency, how to model concurrent computations, and which languages allow this dynamic hardware to be programmed most effectively. The purpose of this work is to describe an FPGA compiler for the Circal process algebra. In so doing, the authors demonstrate that behavioural descriptions expressed in a process algebraic language can be readily and intuitively compiled to reconfigurable logic and that this contributes to the goal of discovering appropriate high-level languages for run-time reconfiguration.

FPGAs have unique characteristics that may provide benefits for applications which meet specific constraints. However, employers are not interested in having students understand the details. The reason for this is that, in teaching the details of FPGAs, some of the crucial fundamentals are being squeezed out of core course content. It is this omission of the basics, and the lack of understanding of the whole design picture, which are the key issues facing digital design teaching today.

With the ongoing development of multimedia technology, the number of information systems containing image retrieval functions is increasing rapidly. Techniques of colour histogram content-based image retrieval are compared in terms of speed and efficiency, and a modified approach based on a composite colour image histogram processing is introduced. The proposed approach is fast and provides results comparable to those of much slower algorithms. Furthermore, a novel pipelined hardware structure has been designed and implemented on an FPGA, to increase the operation speed and make the technique suitable for real-time applications. The typical clock frequency of this device is 35 MHz and it can perform over 50 comparisons of 640 x 480-pixel images per second.

The influx of overseas semiconductor manufacturers into the U.K. has created a greater need for test engineers rather than digital circuit designers. If universities are to satisfy the needs of these industries, test engineering must be promoted as an essential engineering discipline. To bring about rapid progress, test engineers must be innovative and skilled to keep up with the advances in technology. Intensive training and continued self-education is required. To promote test engineering as an essential discipline, the industry must dispel the myth that testing is a career move for failed designers, stress that design for testability is as much of a design issue, and emphasize that development of testing strategies is essential.

This paper explores the power, delay and area efficiency of AES round architectures when implemented on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Modern FPGAs provide attractive solutions for cryptographic applications when compared to Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) design, reducing costs, allowing greater flexibility and can provide high throughput. There has been a varied number of AES architectures proposed since 2001 for implementation on FPGAs. In this paper we implement three popular AES round architectures, allowing for analysis and comparison of the area/delay/power tradeoffs when mapped to Xilinx VirtexII-Pro FPGAs.
