Many cities with metro systems are experiencing overcapacity problems on some or many lines. Beijing is one such city whose metro also services a high proportion of short-distance trips. The proportion of short-distance travel-less than 5 km (3.1 mi)-carried out on foot or on bicycle varies greatly across cities, depending on alternative travel modes and local environmental conditions. In this study, users of a multimodal transportation corridor that included metro (n = 400) were interviewed about their travel mode preferences depending on distance within the short-distance travel category. Users were also asked to state their preferences for mode, depending on distance and a progressive rise in metro ticket fare. Finally, users were asked to state their mode preferences for trips that extended to five metro stations if a public bicycle system with a separate lane were made available. Modal choice was highly sensitive to variable short-distance trips. A progressive shift to bus use occurred as the metro fare price increased, with little change in the walking rate or in the use of motorized modes. When the original low metro fare price was maintained, the availability of a public bicycle system led to a sevenfold increase in bicycle use, with significant drops in bus share, and to a lesser extent, metro share. Responses to the stated preference survey indicated that fares and a public bicycle program might be effective to manage the use of metro for short-distance trips.

In recent years, convolutional neural networks have excelled in image Moir & eacute;pattern removal, yet their high memory consumption poses challenges for resource-constrained devices. To address this, we propose the lightweight multi-scale network (LMSNet). Designing lightweight multi-scale feature extraction blocks and efficient adaptive channel fusion modules, we extend the receptive field of feature extraction and introduce lightweight convolutional decomposition. LMSNet achieves a balance between parameter numbers and reconstruction performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our LMSNet, with 0.77 million parameters, achieves Moir & eacute;pattern removal performance comparable to full high definition demoir & eacute;ing network (FHDe(2)Net) with 13.57 million parameters.

Eight polycyclic furanobutenolide-containing norcembrane diterpenoids featuring C19 frameworks(1–8)were rapidly recognized and isolated from the Hainan soft coral Sinularia sp. by the HSQC-based small molecule accurate recognition technology. Yonarolide A(1a), featuring an unprecedented 5/6/4/4/7 pentacyclic ring skeleton, was surprisingly obtained as a transformed product by leaving compound 1 under indoor natural light, and was further proved to be a [2 + 2] cycloaddition product of 1 by photochemical reaction. The absolute stereochemistry of 1a and the three known norcembrane diterpenoids 1, 4, and7 were determined by using X-ray diffraction(XRD) analyses. Further, with the aid of XRD analysis, the structure of scabrolide B(2), which was previously reported of possessing 5/6/7 tricyclic skeleton, was firmly revised as 2a with the rare inelegane skeleton featured by the highly oxygenated 5/7/6 tricyclic carbocycle.

Noncovalent functionalization of graphene with iron tetrasulfophthalocyanine (FeTsPc) is achieved not only to prevent the aggregation of graphene but also form an efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in a dual-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC). The electrochemical activity of the FeTsPc-functionalized graphene (FeTsPc-graphene) is evaluated towards the ORR using cyclic voltammogram (CV) and linear sweep voltammogram (LSV) methods. More positive peak potential and larger peak current of ORR are found using FeTsPc-graphene electrode as compared to FeTsPc electrode, suggesting enhanced activity of FeTsPc after adsorbing on graphene surface. The maximum power density of 817 mW m(-2) obtained from the MFC with a FeTsPc-graphene cathode is higher than that of 523 mW m(-2) with a FeTsPc cathode and is close to that of 856 mW m(-2) with a Pt/C cathode. Thus, FeTsPc-graphene nanocomposites can be a good alternative to Pt catalyst in MFCs. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Panacis majoris Rhizoma, which is a member of herbal medicine, is known for many years to remove blood stasis, promote blood circulation, and enrich the blood. The active ingredients of this plant are mainly attributed to saponins. Aim of the study: The total saponins from Panacis majoris Rhizoma (TSPJ), and the degradation products of TSPJ (DTSPJ), were designed in this study to compare the protective effects on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, and the aim of this approach is to discover more effective agents for the treatment of ischemic heart diseases. We analyzed the main constituents of TSPJ and DTSPJ, aiming to make clear which saponins played important roles in this protective effect, and also investigated the possible mechanisms. Materials and methods: DTSPJ was prepared by the method of alkaline hydrolysis. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used to analyze the main chemical constituents of TSPJ and DTSPJ, which were isolated by chromatographic techniques and identified by comparison with the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) data in reported literature. Male Wistar rats were randomized to sham-operated group, ischemia-reperfusion group, three TSPJ (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg) groups, three DTSPJ (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg) groups, and isosorbide dinitrate tablet (5.0 mg/kg) group. The rats in all groups were intragastrically administrated once per day for three successive days. The establishment of the model of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury was used the following method: firstly, the left coronary artery of experimental rat was ligated for 30 min and then reperfused for 120 min. Then the myocardial infarct size, hemorheological and biochemical parameters, whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, platelet adhesion rate, platelet aggregation and histopathology changes were assessed. In this paper, a graphene-based magnetic nano-composite (Fe3O4@G) was synthesized by covalent bonding. The presence of Fe3O4 was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermo-gravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy. Subsequently, the Fe3O4@G was used as adsorbent for the extraction of eight organochlorine pesticides in orange juice samples prior to their gas chromatography mass spectrometry detection. Various experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiencies, such as the amount of Fe3O4@G, extraction time, the pH of the sample solution and desorption conditions were investigated. Under optimized experimental conditions, good linearity existed in the range of 1.0-200.0 ng mL(-1) for all the analytes with the correlation coefficients (R-2) ranging from 0.9904 to 0.9992. The limits of detection (S/N = 3) of the method for the compounds were between 0.01 and 0.05 ng mL(-1). Good reproducibilities were obtained with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 9.6 %. The recoveries of the method were in the range between 73.8 and 105.4 % with RSDs less than 7.7 %.
