Certain weather conditions are inadvertently related to increased population of various mosquitoes. In order to predict the burden of mosquito populations in the Global South, it is imperative to integrate weather-related risk factors into such predictive models. There are a lot of online open-source weather platforms that provide historical, current and future weather forecasts which can be utilised for general predictions, and these electronic sources serve as an alternate option for weather data when physical weather stations are inaccessible (or inactive). Before using data from such online source, it is important to assess the accuracy against some baseline measure. In this paper, we therefore evaluated the accuracy and suitability of weather forecasts of two parameters namely temperature and humidity from the OpenWeatherMap API (an online weather platform) and compared them with actual measurements collected from the Brazilian weather stations (INMET). The evaluation was focused on two Brazilian cites, namely, Recife and Campina Grande. The intention is to prepare an early warning model which will harness data from OpenWeatherMap API for mosquito prediction.

Context-aware API recommendation techniques aim to generate a ranked list of candidate APIs on an editing position during development. The basic context used in traditional API recommendation mainly focuses on the APIs from third-party libraries, limit or even ignore the usage of project-specific code. The limited usage of project-specific code may result in the lack of context information, and degrade the effectiveness of API recommendation. To address this problem, we introduce a novel type of context, i.e., hierarchical context, which can leverage the hidden information of project-specific code by analyzing the call graph. In hierarchical context, a project-specific API is presented as a sequence of low-leveled APIs from third-party libraries. We propose an approach, i.e., HiRec, which builds on the basis of hierarchical context. HiRec is evaluated on 108 projects and the results show that HiRec can obtain much more accurate results than all the other selected approaches in terms of top-5 and top-10 accuracy due to the strong ability of context representation. And HiRec performs closely to the outstanding tools in terms of top-1 accuracy. The average time of recommending execution is less than 1 seconds in most cases, which is acceptable for interaction in an IDE. Unlike current approaches, the effectiveness of HiRec is not impacted much by editing positions. And we can obtain more accurate results from HiRec with larger sizes of training data and hierarchical context.

Software Development Lifecycle is crucial in Desktop or web application development. Mobile applications are being developed for deployment in smart phones. Looking at the rising need of mobile applications and the associated development complexity, it is imperative to have a dedicated framework lifecycle for mobile application - Mobile application Development Lifecycle (MADLC). The proposed lifecycle includes the following phases: Identification, Design, Development, Prototyping, Testing, Deployment and Maintenance. This lifecycle has been used for over a year in developing Android mobile applications. This lifecycle addresses some of the distinguishing characteristics of mobile applications like life span, complex functionalities, fewer physical interfaces, more number of screens for interaction, battery and memory usage, cross platform development and maintenance. The preliminary indicators are that this will benefit the mobile developers to follow the development process within MADLC to build robust and optimal control applications. In this research, Mobile application Development Lifecycle (MADLC) has been proposed to bring out a formalized lifecycle procedure, which will aid the mobile application developers in developing high-end apps. This lifecycle includes the following phases: Identification, Design, Development, Prototyping, Testing, Deployment and Maintenance. Lifecycle phases in MADLC have been discussed which consists of different tasks and activities that takes place during the process. Following MADLC in a mobile application developed provides a preliminary indicator that this will not only help the developers in planning their tasks well ahead, but also, the project manager will be able to plan its Project Life Cycle activities in a very efficient manner delivering the mobile business solutions on time. Use of social media is increasing day by day. A huge amount of textual data, as well as images, continue to explode to the web daily. Personality prediction is an evergreen area of research. Predicting personality with the help of data through social media is a promising approach as this method does not require any questionnaires to be filled by users thus reducing time and increasing credibility. In the current work we have fetched real-time Twitter data through a standard API and thereby created a sample experimental dataset. We have employed several popular machine learning algorithms such as kNN, Naive Bayes and SVM. It was observed that Naive Bayes yielded the highest accuracy of 71.67% as compared to the other classifiers.

Mining usage patterns for the Android API

API methods are not used alone, but in groups and following patterns. However, despite being a key information for API users, most usage patterns are not described in official API documents. In this article, we report a study that evaluates the feasibility of automatically enriching API documents with information on usage patterns. For this purpose, we mine and analyze 1,952 usage patterns, from a set of 396 Android applications. As part of our findings, we report that the Android API has many undocumented and non-trivial usage patterns, which can be inferred using association rule mining algorithms. We also describe a field study where a version of the original Android documentation is instrumented with the extracted usage patterns. During 17 months, this documentation received 77,863 visits from professional Android developers.

With the advancement of technology and the spread of multi-core systems, the need for parallelization arises and the interest in programming models is growing. At the same time, new distributed computing models have been proposed, being in fierce competition to obtain the highest possible performance. The Drop Computing Paradigm proposes the idea of decentralized computing over ad-hoc opportunistic networks of mobile and Edge devices. In this respect, the Drop Computing model does not only aim to achieve a minimum turnaround time but also to optimize other characteristics related to mobile devices, such as limited resources and opportunistic communication. Therefore, it is necessary to define a new programming model called DroMPI that intends to extend the capabilities of current parallel and distributed programming models, based on the Drop Computing paradigm. Therefore, the solution aims to develop a library that takes advantage of hardware capabilities in the interest of the Drop Computing paradigm and also provides programmers with a high-level programming interface. The library’s features will be based on the Message Passing Interface (MPI) standard, which will be responsible for inter-node parallelization. The name of the library, DroMPI, is an acronym for Drop Computing and MPI. The implementation of the model will be responsible for the management of communication between nodes and for providing an application programming Interface (API) for the development of parallel applications in the Drop Computing paradigm.

Virtual networks provide applications with the illusion of having their own dedicated, high-performance networks, although network interfaces posses limited, shared resources. We present the design of a large-scale virtual network system and examine the integration of communication programming interface, system resource management, and network interface operation. Our implementation on a cluster of 100 workstations quantifies the impact of virtualization on small message latencies and throughputs, shows full hardware performance is delivered to dedicated applications and time-shared workloads, and shows robust performance under demanding workloads that overcommit interface resources.
