Internet of Everything is aiming in connecting everything with internet. It is an extended concept of Internet of things. Hence, Internet of Everything systems are more complex comparative to internet of things systems. Modeling these Internet of Everything based systems is tricky. When there are fuzzy values involved in modeling any system then it is better to use fuzzy logic modeling. Fuzzy logic provides better and more accurate results comparative to traditional modeling approaches. Every modeling approach has its own strengths and weak nesses. In this paper we propose a framework for modeling cognitive fuzzy Internet of Everything systems. This framework uses concepts of Agent-based Modeling, Network-based Modeling, Fuzzy-logic Modeling and aspect-oriented Modeling. For the proof of concept, we used a scenario example of an Internet of Everything system. We modeled the scenario using our framework. We identified different agents from the scenario, we extracted different symmetric and asymmetric relations and showed relations amongagents in graphical representation. We implemented the fuzzy logic inference using Matlab Fuzzy logic toolbox for proof of concept. This framework provides a mechanism for more detailed Cognitive Fuzzy Internet of Everything models.

Efficient runtime aspect weaving for Java applications

Context: The aspect-oriented paradigm is aimed at solving the code scattering and tangling problem, providing new mechanisms to support better separation of concerns. For specific scenarios where high runtime adaptability is an important requirement, dynamic aspect-oriented programming (AOP) represents a useful tool. With dynamic AOP, components and aspects can be woven and unwoven at runtime, enabling applications greater responsiveness when dealing with different or changing requirements. However, this responsiveness typically incurs a cost in terms of runtime performance and memory consumption. Objective: Build an efficient dynamic aspect weaver for Java that provides the best runtime performance compared to the existing approaches, minimum memory overhead consumption, and similar functionalities to the widespread runtime weavers. Method: We design and implement weaveJ, a dynamic aspect weaver for Java. This dynamic weaver leverages the invokedynamic opcode introduced in Java 7, which allows dynamic relinkage of method and field access. We compare the functionalities of weaveJ with the existing dynamic weavers for Java, and evaluate their runtime performance and memory consumption. Results: weaveJ shows the best runtime performance for all benchmarks and real applications executed. Method interception with invokedynamic is at least 142% faster than the techniques used by the existing runtime weavers. The average cost of dynamic weaving using invokedynamic is only 2.2% for short running programs, and 1.5% for long running applications. Moreover, the use of aspects in weaveJ does not imply additional memory consumption. Conclusion: The dynamic aspect weaver implemented demonstrates that invokedynamic is a suitable mechanism to provide efficient runtime aspect weaving for Java applications. Dynamic slicing of concurrent aspectJ programs: An explicit context-sensitive approach

This paper presents a context-sensitive dynamic slicing technique for the concurrent and aspectized programs. To effectively represent the concurrent aspect-oriented programs, we propose an intermediate graph called the multithreaded aspect-oriented dependence graph (MAODG). The MAODG is a dynamic graph generated from the execution trace of a given program with respect to a particular set of values given as an input. Interference dependencies between the statements are shown by a distinguished edge called the interference dependence edge in the MAODG. Based on this intermediate representation, we propose a precise and accurate dynamic slicing algorithm for the concurrent aspect-oriented programs implemented using aspectJ. The proposed dynamic slicing algorithm is implemented in a slicing tool developed using the ASM framework. Several open source programs are studied and evaluated using the proposed technique along with some existing techniques. The experimentation shows that our proposed slicing algorithm generates slices of the same or smaller size, as compared with the existing algorithms. Furthermore, we found that the slice computation time is significantly less in our proposed algorithm, as compared with the existing algorithms.

An empirical study on the impact of aspectJ on software evolvability

Since its inception in 1996, aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has been believed to reduce the effort required to maintain software systems by replacing cross-cutting code with aspects. However, little convincing empirical evidence exists to support this claim, while several studies suggest that AOP brings new obstacles to maintainability. This paper discusses two controlled experiments conducted to evaluate the impact of aspectJ (the most mature and popular aspect-oriented programming language) versus Java on software evolvability. We consider evolvability as the ease with which a software system can be updated to fulfill new requirements. Since a minor language was compared to the mainstream, the experiments were designed so as to anticipate that the participants were much more experienced in one of the treatments. The first experiment was performed on 35 student subjects who were asked to comprehend either Java or aspectJ implementation of the same system, and perform the corresponding comprehension tasks. Participants of both groups achieved a high rate of correct answers without a statistically significant difference between the groups. Nevertheless, the Java group significantly outperformed the aspectJ group with respect to the average completion time. In the second experiment, 24 student subjects were asked to implement (in a non-invasive way) two extension scenarios to the system that they had already known. Each subject evolved either the Java version using Java or the aspectJ version using aspectJ. We found out that a typical aspectJ programmer needs significantly fewer atomic changes to implement the change scenarios than a typical Java programmer, but we did not observe a significant difference in completion time. The overall result indicates that aspectJ has a different effect on two sub-characteristics of the evolvability: understandability and changeability. While aspectJ decreases the former, it improves one aspect of the latter.

EPE-MobileA framework for early performance estimation of mobile applications

Considering the constrained resources of mobile devices, a thorough performance evaluation of a mobile application is crucial. However, performance evaluation in the mobile domain is still a manual and time-consuming task. The diversity of mobile devices only increases the complexity of this task. We propose EPE-Mobile, a framework to automate early performance estimation in mobile applications. It is composed of a configurable library of basic operations and an engine that automatically creates a synthetic program based on the specification of a new app. The synthetic program that EPE-Mobile generates provides feedback for mobile developers at the first design stages and before the actual implementation of a new application. The fast evaluation can also guide developers in optimizing their applications or in choosing devices with the best trade-off between cost and performance to run a given application. Finally, developers can reuse the data collection infrastructure of the framework to collect performance data during all development stages. We validate the proposed framework using 4 applications from the Android Play Store. Based on their specifications, 4 synthetic programs were generated and executed on different devices. We compared the results to those obtained from the execution of the actual applications in the same devices. Experimental results show that it is possible to create synthetic applications with similar behavior to that of real applications and, thus, classify devices based on the actual application needs. The framework uses aspect-oriented programming to collect the metrics of interest. This approach provides increased modularity and separation of concerns, thus facilitating the improvement of the framework itself, by adding other metrics or basic operations.

When developing video-based surveillance systems the developer faces a highly complex task due to the wide range of application domains where video-based surveillance systems are applied. As the number of domains of application increases, so does the level of variability of non-functional and functional properties that needs to be managed by video-based surveillance systems. The traditional response to make the process of managing all system variations more flexible is to use modular architectures based on filters for video applications. These filters are implemented using dynamic programming techniques (i.e. inheritance and virtual functions) that induce an overhead on the system performance. As each filter is implemented as a plugin, the non-linearity produced by the use of plug-ins penalize the overall system performance due to a increase in the number of cache misses and page faults. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed. The use of aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is proposed to modularize system variability without compromising system performance. All the system variation points are implemented in aspects that are injected for a specific configuration on the common base code related to all configurations. The experimental results show that AOP improves the management of system heterogeneity without sacrificing system performance.

Toward an aspect-oriented cache autoloading framework with annotation

In recent years, researches focus on addressing the query bottleneck issue using data cache in the internet-of-things. However, the challenges of this method are how to implement autonomous management of data cache. In this paper, we propose an aspect-oriented cache autoloading framework with annotation (ACALFA). The architecture, annotation, expression are introduced to address cache autoloading. There are some features for improving performance, such as avoiding cache breakdown and cache penetration using load waiting and autoloading, loose coupling of business and cache logic using AOP, and batch delete of cache. The result of experiments indicated that our method is nearly 25% faster than other cache frameworks in case of high concurrency.

The existing techniques for software testing can be used to perform only a particular type of testing, and moreover proficiency is required to write the automation test scripts using these techniques. This paper proposes a novel software testing approach using aspect-oriented programming (AOP) that alone suffices for carrying out most of the types of software testing and thus obliterates the need of using distinctive tools for different types of testing. Nevertheless, AOP is a new programming paradigm and not all testers have the proficiency of working with it. Hence, a domain-specific language named Testing aspect Generator Language (TAGL) was developed which has got a very low learning curve. Using TAGL, testers can write the testing code in the form of natural language-like statements. Further, the lexical analyzer and parser, written using lex and yacc, convert the TAGL statements into actual testing code in the form of AOP. The proposed approach was applied for the testing of widely used open source projects and remarkable bugs were detected into them. A detailed comparison as to how our approach is effective than the conventional testing techniques is provided.

Skin and respiratory chemical allergy: confluence and divergence in a hybrid adverse outcome pathway

Sensitisation of the respiratory tract to chemicals resulting in respiratory allergy and allergic asthma is an important occupational health problem, and presents toxicologists with no shortage of challenges. A major issue is that there are no validated or, even widely recognised, methods available for the identification and characterisation of chemical respiratory allergens, or for distinguishing respiratory allergens from contact allergens. The first objective here has been review what is known (and what is not known) of the mechanisms through which chemicals induce sensitisation of the respiratory tract, and to use this information to construct a hybrid Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) that combines consideration of both skin and respiratory sensitisation. The intention then has been to use the construction of this hybrid AOP to identify areas of commonality/confluence, and areas of departure/divergence, between skin sensitisation and sensitisation of the respiratory tract. The hybrid AOP not only provides a mechanistic understanding of how the processes of skin and respiratory sensitisation differ, buy also a means of identifying areas of uncertainty about chemical respiratory allergy that benefit from a further investment in research.

Caffeine: an evidence-based success story in VLBW pharmacotherapy

Apnea of prematurity (AOP) is a common and pervasive problem in very low birth weight infants. Methylxanthines were reported >40 years ago to be an effective therapy and, by the early 2000s, caffeine had become the preferred methylxanthine because of its wide therapeutic index, excellent bioavailability, and longer half-life. A clinical trial to address unresolved questions and toxicity concerns, completed in 2004, confirmed significant benefits of caffeine therapy, including shorter duration of intubation and respiratory support, reduced incidence of chronic lung disease, decreased need for treatment of patent ductus arteriosus, reduced severity of retinopathy of prematurity, and improved motor and visual function. Cohort studies have now further delineated the benefits of initiation of therapy before 3 days postnatal age, and of higher maintenance doses to achieve incremental beneficial effects. This review summarizes the pivotal and in particular the most recent studies that have established the safety and efficacy of caffeine therapy for AOP and other respiratory and neurodevelopmental outcomes. Caffeine has a very favorable benefit-to-risk ratio, and has become one of the most prescribed and cost-effective pharmacotherapies in the NICU.
