Sustainable bioconversion of agricultural waste substrates into poly (3-hydroxyhexanoate) (mcl-PHA) by cupriavidus necator DSM 428

Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) synthesised by microbial strains has properties (biocompatible, non-toxic, and biodegradable) that make it appropriate as an environment-friendly plastic component. This research evaluated the cheap carbon substrates (molasses, olive oil, and their mixture) of industrial waste as an alternative to costly ones for the manufacturing enhancement of mcl-PHA by c. necator. The strain was cultured in both nutrient and mineral media with and without nitrogen. mcl-PHA content was found to be 24.33%, 18.66%, and 40% with molasses, olive oil, and a mixture of both substrates, respectively. The chromatographic technique, GcMS, was utilized to confirm the types of PHA monomers (3HB and HHx). The maximum PHA content produced was 2.03 g/L using a combination of substrates compared to molasses (1.41 g/L) and olive oil (1.12 g/L). Morphology exhibits pseudo-spherical granules with comparatively consistent distribution by SEM. FTIR spectroscopy was used to detect PHA presence rapidly. In conclusion, c. necator DSM 428 cultivated on a mixture of substrates is proficient in manufacturing mcl-PHA along with scl-PHA;the type of PHA monomer depends upon the selection of substrate.

Transition metal oxides are a promising class of electrode materials for pseudocapacitors due to their high electrochemical activity and eco-friendly nature. However, they possess poor intrinsic conductivity which results in the low energy density of the assembled supercapacitors. In this study, electrodes composed of amorphous cmodified Nico2O4 (c/Nico2O4/NF) on nickel foam substrate were prepared by electrochemical deposition and thermostatic heating method. The incorporation of amorphous c compensates for the low electrical conductivity of Nico2O4 materials, thereby significantly enhancing the electrochemical performance. The galvanostatic charge-discharge (GcD) test results reveal an impressive specific capacitance of 379.4 mF/cm2 at a current density of 1.5 mA/cm2, and with a capacitance retention rate of 87.1 %. In addition, the symmetric supercapacitor assembled using c/Nico2O4 electrode materials exhibits exceptional energy density and power density, reaching maximum values of 522.3 mu Wh/cm2 and 900 mu W/cm2 respectively. The device is capable of illuminating LED for up to 8 min, further demonstrating its practical applicability. These results underscore the feasibility and promise of c/Nico2O4 as an electrode material for the advancement of high-performance supercapacitors.

It is crucial for sodium ion batteries to improve reversible capacity and lifespan of anode materials. Herein, a simple chelation and carbonization strategy is proposed to synthesize hierarchical mesoporous nanospheres of [email protected] 2 /Mo 2 c that are assembled by many ultrathin amorphous carbon nanosheets. These carbon nanosheets are further embedded by numerous ultrasmall MoO 2 /Mo 2 c nanocrystalline. The thickness of the carbon nanosheets is about 10 nm and the diameter of the nanocrystalline is 3–5 nm. [email protected] 2 /Mo 2 c exhibits plentiful mesopores and large surface area (179 m 2 g −1 ), enhanced electrical/ionic conductivity and excellent structural stability. Benefiting from these positive structural advantages, [email protected] 2 /Mo 2 c exhibits high discharge capacity, good rate capability and outstanding cycling performance when used as anode for sodium-ion batteries. The discharge capacity is as high as 701 mAh g −1 at current density of 0.5 A g −1 . Even at 5 A g −1 , average discharge capacity may stabilize at 253 mAh g −1 . After 300 cycles at 1 A g −1 , the discharge capacity of 441 mAh g −1 is still achieved. This work offers a new synthesis and structure design strategy for developing high-performance anode materials of sodium ion batteries.

Multiheme cytochromes (MHcs) are bacterial electron-transfer proteins. We show from optical spectra and calculations that some of these cytochromes probably contain occupied and unoccupied bands formed from heme Tc and Tc* orbitals that span the protein. In the fully oxidised proteins, the unoccupied Tc*-bands are energetically above the redox-active frontier orbitals, which according to NMR data and calculations, are formed of Fe3+ t2g and porphyrin Tc-orbitals. These orbitals on different hemes are electronically coupled according to EPR data and calculations, but only weakly so. We suggest a role for the heme bands in the electronic conductivity of single MHcs in bioelectronic junctions that is distinct from the role of the redox-active Fe3+ t2g and porphyrin Tc-orbitals in physiological electron transfer.

Persistent elevation of fibrosis biomarker cartilage oligomeric matrix protein following hepatitis c virus eradication

Serum levels of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein(cOMP) has been presented as a biomarker of liver fibrosis in several cross-sectional studies. cOMP is also an essential mediator in carcinoma development and has also been associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. We present a prospective analysis of this biomarker in38 patients with chronic hepatitis c who were subject to eradication therapy with direct acting antivirals. We confirm previous studies associating cOMP elevation with liver cirrhosis. We also show how viral levels are correlated with cOMP at baseline. In our prospective analysis, we report that successful eradication of hepatitis c results in improvement in liver stiffness and laboratory liver function tests at 1 year follow-up. In contrast, median cOMP-levels remain unchanged during the study period. We conclude that the biomarker potential of cOMP in the prospective evaluation of liver diseases, remains to be elucidated.

研究分析牛蒡子饮片联合贝那普利对糖尿病肾病患者24h尿蛋白定量、cys c、肌酐的应用效果。方法:选择60例于2019年6月至2020年12月在我院内分泌科门诊和住院治疗的早期糖尿病肾病患者,随机分为贝那普利组(对照组)和贝那普利联合牛蒡子饮片组(治疗组),各30例。治疗结束后对比两组患者24h尿蛋白定量、cys c、肌酐水平。结果:治疗组治疗后24小时尿蛋白较治疗前下降均值为73.9%,对照组下降48.4%,治疗组下降差值以及下降百分比优于对照组,P=0.001<0.05,有统计学差异。结论:对于糖尿病肾病患者,采用牛蒡子联合AcEI治疗,可以显著降低尿蛋白,可延缓肾功能衰竭。

Prospective removal characteristics of noxious cationic dye using cladophora catenata: a sustainable approach

The discharge of cationic Reactive Yellow 147 (cRY 147) into water bodies may have major consequences for human health and the aquatic ecosystem. Environmentally friendly, inexpensive, and efficient sorbents are being investigated for removing hazardous dyes from textile drain water. The objective of the current study is to explicate the removal of cRY 147 from the synthetic textile medium using cladophora catenata (***). The *** was analysed by FTIR, SEM/EDS, and BET methods. The research examined the impacts of different experimental process variables on adsorption. Batch adsorption studies were performed to assess the absorbent's capacity to capture cRY 147 from aqueous systems. The following factors were investigated: pH, adsorbent-dye ratio, contact duration, cRY 147 concentration, and temperature. The adsorption process matched the Langmuir model in equilibrium studies and the pseudo-kinetic second order in kinetic behaviour. The c. catenata has a maximal monolayer capacity of 87.71 mg g(-1) for the elimination of cRY 47. The Boyd's plot confirmed the external mass transfer as the rate-limiting step. Thermodynamic studies demonstrated that the adsorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. The primary mechanisms of cRY 147 adsorption on c. catenata were found to be electrostatic inter linkage, n-pi and pi-pi interactions, and hydrogen bonding. In addition, a desorption investigation with different eluents was carried out to determine the reusability of ***. Furthermore, the *** showed good stability and regenerability up to four cycles. Subsequently, the findings revealed that c. catenata might be a low-cost, promising, and green sorbent for removing cRY 147 from synthetic suspension/textile wastewater.

Effect of ultrasound pretreatment combined with enzymatic hydrolysis of non-conventional starch on sugar yields to bioethanol conversion

Bioethanol from cornstarch is the largest renewable liquid biofuel currently in use. However, corn is the basis of the population's diet in many countries so other feedstock must be considered. This article proposes non-conventional starch from Ramon tree (Brosimum alicastrum), a specie native to the Mesoamerican region and widely distributed in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Ultrasound has appeared as a promising green technique used to make physical, chemical, and biological processes, including enzymatic reactions, more efficient. Ultrasonic pretreatments (UL) alone and combined with commercial enzymes and enzymatic extracts of native fungi (Trametes hirsuta Bm-2) with a power of 70 W at 42 kHz, for 30 min at 45 degrees c, 60 degrees c, and 70 degrees c, were used. The results indicate that the pretreatment conditions do not inhibit the enzymatic activity;on the contrary, they decrease the operational temperature, giving the best results at 45 degrees c. All the treatments presented significantly higher dextrose equivalent values than the control without sonication. In the fermentation process, 91% efficiency was reached using the native strain candida tropicalis PL-1, which infers yields of 314 and 235 L/ton of Ramon seed flour (RF) for samples pretreated by UL combined with alpha-amylase and raw enzymatic extract respectively. Based on the above, the ultrasonic treatment combined with enzymes applied to RF is outlined as an option of non-conventional starch pretreatment for the bioethanol production to avoid the use of basic food in the quest of clean energy.

core–shell [email protected] modified TiO 2 –Ti 3 c 2 heterostructure and target-triggered DNAzyme cascade amplification for photoelectrochemical detection of ochratoxin A

Efficient charge separation and utilization are critical factors to obtain a high initial signal in photoelectrochemical (PEc) aptasensor. Reports demonstrate that constructing metal/semiconductor Schottky junction can effectively improve the charge separation efficiency. Herein, a photoelectrode [email protected] /TiO 2 –Ti 3 c 2 Schottky junction is successfully synthesized. Specifically, the Schottky junction between core–shell [email protected] and TiO 2 –Ti 3 c 2 facilitates the efficiency of photogenerated electron transfer and enables the transfer of photogenerated electrons from TiO 2 –Ti 3 c 2 to [email protected] Noteworthy, the core–shell [email protected] acts as a photoelectron receiver to capture and store electrons, which further facilitates the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, resulting enhanced photocurrent generation without sacrificial agents. Moreover, through the Mg 2+ -dependent DNAzyme cascade amplification, the sensitivity of the PEc aptasensor is further improved. Hence, we report an ultrasensitive PEc aptasensor for ochratoxin A (OTA) assy based on [email protected] /TiO 2 –Ti 3 c 2 Schottky junction and Mg 2+ -dependent DNAzyme cascade amplification. As a result, the established PEc aptasensor exhibits excellent photocurrent performance in the range of 5 fg mL −1 –10 ng mL −1 with a detection limit as low as 1.73 fg mL −1 , showing high sensitivity, selectivity as well as stability. This strategy provides a versatile and promising avenue for the development of high-performance PEc aptasensor.

cover crop characteristics modulate amount and timing of nitrogen supply of fertilized sugar beet ( Beta vulgaris L.) in climate

For temperate climate, there is little information on the effects cover crops grown in fall (ccs) on the nitrogen (N) supply for next year's sugar beet (SB). Four field trials were conducted on silty soils to establish the cc N effect (Neff) compared to bare fallow separately for the periods sowing-summer and summer-autumn harvest. Biomass characteristics of radish ( Raphanus sativus L.), spring vetch ( Vicia sativa L.), saia oat ( Avena strigosa Schreb.), and winter rye ( Secale cereale L.) ccs before winter, soil mineral nitrogen in spring (SMN), and SB N accumulation and sugar yield (SY) were measured. In the period sowing-summer, characterized by a high SB N demand, N eff of overwintering, high biomass yielding rye cc was negative up to -50 kg N ha(-1) at three site/years and varied around zero for the other ccs except vetch, for which N eff was positive. At SB autumn-harvest, N eff was negative up to -100 kg N ha(-1) except for vetch in one trial. SY was lowest after rye cc. Regression analyses indicated a negative impact of cc biomass, c:N ratio and the difference in SMN between fallow (high SMN) and ccs (low SMN) on N eff . To conclude, if ccs yield a high amount of biomass surviving until spring and thus remove SMN from the soil which otherwise remains available for SB, early season mineralization of cc biomass N can be too low to ensure a N supply sufficient for maximum SB yield. choosing leguminous ccs or early termination of ccs might alleviate this constraint.
