Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control algorithm is playing an important role in industrial control process. However, for nonlinear control objects, it is difficult to obtain the desired control performance by using a typical PID controller. Therefore, some intelligent PID controllers are proposed and one of them is a PID controller with some cerebellar model articulation controllers (CMACs). In this controller, CMACs are utilized as a control parameter tuner and PID control parameters are calculated as the output of CMAC. The CMAC obtains higher accuracy by increasing the number of label for each weight table while larger memory is needed and generalization ability decreases. On the other hand, the CMAC costs less memory while obtains higher generalization ability and the accuracy decreases. Hence, a novel CMAC that number of label for each weight table can be decided respectively is proposed so that the accuracy is compatible with the generalization ability. Moreover, the efficiency of the memory allocation is improved. The proposed method employs hierarchical clustering to perform specified numbers of label for each weight table. At last, the effectiveness of proposed method is verified by applying to a nonlinear system numerically.

Vehicles powered by electric machines offer the advantage to be more silent than vehicles equipped with an internal combustion engine. On the one hand, the reduced noise levels enable an improvement of the inner-city noise pollution. On the other hand, quiet vehicles entail risks not to be acoustically detected by surrounding pedestrians and cyclists in the lower speed range. The emitted noise can easily be masked by the urban background noise. Therefore, the UNECE has founded an informal working group which is currently developing guidelines in terms of an exterior noise required for detecting Quiet Road Transport Vehicles (QRTV). With the introduction of an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), not only the exterior noise but also the perceived interior noise for an enhanced driving experience can be considered. Nevertheless, car manufactures have a big interest in maintaining their perceived brand identity. For the solution of this task, a synthetic sound generation system has been developed. Besides the realization of executable software for real-time capable vehicle communication and sound calculation, an implementation on an in-vehicle control unit has been engineered. Special attention has been paid to the aspect "ease of use". Important control parameters of the sound design can be modified with a graphical user interface directly in a road test from both in-and outside the test vehicle. The methodology of the AVAS, different sound design approaches for various demonstrator vehicles and key results regarding the audibility and sound quality are object of this paper.

In this work, we consider the problem of finding an unknown time-dependent function in a semi-linear parabolic equation with given initial, boundary and energy over-specified conditions. The homotopy perturbation method, a powerful technique, is applied to obtain the numerical solution of this problem. Using this method, a rapid convergent sequence can be constructed which tends to the exact solution of the problem. Some examples are presented to illustrate the strength of the method.

Variable wind output introduces the new challenges in power system. To maintain flat voltage profile is quite difficult for variable wind output. In this work, the control of voltage regulation is discussed. Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) can provide efficient and fast reactive power support to maintain rated system voltage. In the literature review, various FACTs control methods have been discussed. control parameters of the controller are fixed with respect to time and it can be calculated by trial and error method. To improve the controller performance, adaptive PID controller is discussed in which the control parameter of controller is self-adjusted. This work proposes a controller based on adaptive PID control in which the control parameters are depending on disturbance and maintain desired response. The response of the controller model is tested on MATLAB and it is checked with different power system condition such as different initial control gains, different load levels, and change of transmission network, consecutive disturbances and a severe disturbance. Finally result of different condition is compared with fixed PI controller.

Water Management in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells through Asymmetric Thermal and Mass Transport Engineering of the Micro-Porous Layers

For polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) operating at very high current, prevention of anode dry-out through enhanced back flux of water and restriction of evaporation is required. In this work, back flux of water to the anode is engineered using an asymmetric anode and cathode micro-porous layer (MPL) configuration. Extensive experimental tests have been conducted to study the impact of thermal and mass transport resistances on the net water flux coefficient for extremes of wet and dry operating conditions. The net water drag co-efficient was measured in the range of -0.17 to +0.18 depending on the operating conditions and material configurations. A simplified model has also been developed to investigate the effect of temperature gradient on the net water drag coefficient. It is shown that with an asymmetric configuration, the net flux of water can be reversed under certain conditions, greatly enhancing high current density performance. For wet operating conditions, the cell configuration with asymmetric mass transport resistance can be utilized to tailor the back flux of water. For dry operating conditions, the thermal resistance is the key controlling parameter to affect the net water drag. (C) The Author(s) 2016. Published by ECS. A model of a two-dimensional open-pit mine is proposed and an optimal control problem is formulated with mixed constraints on the control parameters and an integral objective functional. The problem is discretized in one of the phase variables and solved by the gradient projection method with penalty functions. U(5)-SU(3) Nuclear Shape Transition within the Interacting Boson Model Applied to Dysprosium Isotopes

In the framework of the interacting boson model (IBM) with intrinsic coherent state, the shape Hamiltonian from spherical vibrator U(5) to axially symmetric prolate deformed rotator SU(3) are examined. The Hamiltonian used is composed of a single boson energy term and quadrupole term. The potential energy surfaces (PES's) corresponding to the U(5)-SU(3) transition are calculated with variation of a scaling and control parameters. The model is applied to Dy150-162 chain of isotopes. In this chain a change from spherical to well deformed nuclei is observed when moving from the lighter to heavier isotopes. Dy-156 is a good candidate for the critical point symmetry X(5). The parameters of the model are determined by using a computer simulated search program in order to minimize the deviation between our calculated and some selected experimental energy levels, B(E2) transition rates and the two neutron separation energies S-2n. We have also studied the energy ratios and the B(E2) values for the yrast state of the critical nucleus. The nucleon pair transfer intensities between ground-ground and ground-beta states are examined within IBM and boson intrinsic coherent framework.

This paper describes an icing software toolkit applied to predict the ice accretion layer by layer on the surface of airfoil. Based on modular programming method, this code consists of five separate modules with functions respectively as geometry redefinition, grid generation, airflow calculation, calculation of droplet impingement, and analysis of ice-layer growth. Once the multi-step algorithm is activated, all the modules will be executed automatically and repeatedly controlled by this software until the accumulated icing time is equal to set value. The initial conditions and control parameters can be input via user interface expediently. Some improvements are presented: the fan-shaped partition method used to reconstruct the mesh and update the flow-field locally near the icing region, velocity interpolation based on the local surrounding grid cells, changeable time step used for the calculations of forward motion for droplets, a mesh share used in airflow and ice growth calculations. These new ideas make the icing calculations more quickly, efficiently and stably than before. At last, this code is tested and verified on the NACA 0012 airfoil with rime ice and glaze ice conditions. The available results from NUAA-ICE2D code are compared with that obtained from the experiment and other icing codes.

Filter press tests are widely used for field quality control of bentonite slurry in slurry trench excavations and often are incorporated in technical specifications for assessing filtrate properties of initial (freshly mixed) slurry and occasionally for in-trench slurry. In some cases, the results of filter press tests conducted on in-trench slurry are directly or indirectly used to assess the hydraulic performance of the cutoff wall. However, specifications for maximum filtrate loss from filter press testing of in-trench slurry can result in unnecessary construction delays and costs. The authors examine the reasons for specifying filtrate parameters for slurry and present the results of filter press tests conducted on lab and field samples to evaluate the utility of filtrate loss as an appropriate quality control measure for soil-bentonite cutoff walls. These results show no evidence to support that excessive filtrate loss of in-trench slurry (i.e., above the maximum value employed in typical specifications) compromises trench stability or contributes to an overall higher permeability of the completed vertical barrier. Higher in-trench filtrate loss is associated with higher sand content, which results in higher slurry density and improved trench stability. Furthermore, the permeability of all filter cake specimens created in this study from in-trench slurries with sand contents as high as 35 percent were less than 10(-7) cm/s, which is the lowest target permeability typically specified for soil-bentonite cutoff wall backfill in hydraulic or geoenvironmental containment applications. The authors do not recommend using filtrate loss of in-trench slurry as a quality control parameter for assessing the effectiveness of slurry trench cutoff walls.
