fuzzy multi-objective optimization for closed loop logistics network design in bread-producing industries

Supply chain network design is one of the most important issues in designing supply chains because of its effect on performance and efficiency of the logistics network. Customer service improvements and environmental requirements have forced most companies to take into account the reverse flows in designing their supply chain networks. This paper employs an interactive fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (IFMOLP) method to solve fuzzy bi-objective reverse logistics network design problems. This method attempts to minimize the total cost and total delivery time of the system simultaneously. The presented method provides decision makers with an interactive framework that facilitates the process of decision making in a fuzzy environment. Moreover, this framework enables the decision makers to interactively change fuzzy data in order to reach the most satisfactory solutions. A genetic-based heuristic algorithm is presented to solve the model for larger cases. A case study in a bread-producing factory is presented to show the feasibility of the proposed approach.

The demand for customization is gradually increasing given that recycled materials no longer meet customer demands for new products. Meeting the needs of a particular customer may require release of numerous new materials and recycled materials to minimize both total production costs and total CO2 emissions. The lot-sizing production-to-order problem is to optimize the lot size for each potential lot release. This study focuses on the relationship between new materials and recycled materials under varying production cost, machine yield and capacity and energy consumption. fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) models are used to analyze factors in the relative cost-effectiveness and CO2 emissions. The proposed model evaluates cost-effectiveness and CO2 emissions and integrates multi-component and multi-machine functions for remanufacturing systems. The analytical results can help managers during decision making by enabling systematic analysis of the potential cost-effectiveness of recoverable remanufacturing. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. A fuzzy integrated approach for project selection

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to develop a systematic and comprehensive project selection model utilizing fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) that deals with the imprecise data in IS projects and uncertain judgment of decision makers. Design/methodology/approach - First, projects are prioritized by considering both quantitative and qualitative factors. A fuzzy analytical hierarchical process (FAHP) is used in order to obtain weights of each project that indicates their priorities. At the second step, project selection decision is completed by using FMOLP. Then, the sensitivity analysis is performed to evaluate the robustness of the proposed integrated model. Findings - The result of this study indicates that an integrated approach utilizing FAHP and FMOLP can be used as a supportive tool for project selection in IS context. It decreases the uncertainty caused from uncertain judgment of decision makers. Research limitations/implications - Future studies are suggested to design models having fuzzy constraints such as budget and resources. Moreover, for future studies, non-linear membership functions can be used. Practical implications - Actual projects are provided from the Turkish IS company for prioritizing process and a hypothetical mathematical model is demonstrated using illustrative data. Originality/value - This study contributes to the relevant literature by proposing a comprehensive model considering many conflicting ideas of decision makers on quantitative and qualitative criteria, and evaluating projects in an integrated way including FAHP and FMOLP.

This study develops a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) model for solving the multi-objective no-wait flow shop scheduling problem in a fuzzy environment. The proposed model attempts to simultaneously minimize the weighted mean completion time and the weighted mean earliness. A numerical example demonstrates the feasibility of applying the proposed model to no-wait flow shop scheduling problem. This study presents a method to determine weights of objectives in multi objective linear programming without decision maker/s preference. The method is developed by modifying Belenson and Kapur's approach under fuzziness. It is used two-person zero-sum game with mixed strategies. Degree of linear membership functions of objectives are used in pay-off matrix. The proposed method is shown with a numerical example and several fuzzy solution approaches are used to get a solution by using obtained weights. Also the results of problems that are obtained from literature are presented.

Companies measure several quality characteristics of row metarial and/or semi product and/or product for both incoming quality control and the manufacturing process according to quality control plans. Behind the measurement devices and capabilities of operators, calibration of measurement devices is crucially important for measurement system, especially for ISO 9001 Quality System Management Standard. So, selection of calibration supplier is coming into prominence. This paper presents a methodology for selection among calibration supplier. Firstly, the selection criteria of a calibration supplier and their weights are determined with a questionnaire. Then, multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) model is used to assign the devices to the calibration supplier in fuzzy environment. Two objectives are considered in this model: maximizing the weights of criterions and minimizing calibration cost under the constraints. Two phase approach is used for this model.

We develop a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) model for solving multi-objective mixed-model assembly line problem. In practice, vagueness and imprecision of the goals in this problem make the fuzzy decision-making complicated. The proposed model considers minimizing total utility work, total production rate variation, and total setup cost, using a two-phase linear programming approach. In the first phase, the problem is solved using a max-min approach. The max-min solution not being efficient, in general, we propose a new model in the second phase to maximize a composite satisfaction degree at least as good as the degrees obtained by phase one. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a numerical example is solved and the results are compared with the ones obtained by the fuzzy mixed integer goal programming and weighted additive methods. The computational results show that the proposed FMOLP model achieves lower objective functions as well as higher satisfaction degrees.

In this paper, the vendor selection (VS) problem with fuzzy goals is considered. An interactive method is developed for solving multi-objective VS problems where fuzzy data are represented by using S-curve membership functions. The proposed method attempts simultaneously to minimize the total order costs, the number of rejected items and the number of late delivered items with reference to several constraints such as meeting buyers' demand, vendors' capacity, vendors' quota flexibility, vendors' allocated budget, etc. An interactive solution methodology is proposed to solve the multi-objective VS problem and to find a preferred compromise solution. Moreover, the performance of S-curve membership functions that represent uncertainty goals and constraints in VS problems with linear membership functions in an industrial case is compared. In practical project management (PM) decision problems, environmental coefficients and related parameters are frequently fuzzy in nature, and a decision maker (DM) must simultaneously consider various conflicting objectives in a framework of imprecise aspiration levels. This work focuses on developing a two-phase fuzzy mathematical programming (TPFGP) approach for solving the multi-objective PM decision problems in a fuzzy environment. The original fuzzy multi-objective programming model designed here attempts to simultaneously minimize total project costs, total completion time and total crashing costs with reference to direct costs, indirect costs, contractual penalty costs, duration of activities and the constraint of available budget. An industrial case is used to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the proposed approach to real-world PM decisions. Consequently, the proposed approach yields an efficient solution and overall degree of decision maker (DM) satisfaction with the determined goal values. Several significant management implications relating to the practical application of the proposed approach are also presented. Overall, the main contribution of this work lies in presenting a two-phase fuzzy programming methodology for solving real-world PM decision problems with multiple objectives. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd.
