A New MSL Based Model for the Analysis of the Source Bus Line in lcd panel

A microstrip line based model for analyzing source bus line current inside an active matrix type thin film transistor/liquid crystal display is proposed. The proposed model reveals a linear decrease of intensity of source bus line current and a non linear increase of its rise time as the current propagates away from the source driver. Validity of the model is proved up to the first half of the total panel length by comparing experimental and calculated induced voltage across a planar shielded loop type magnetic coil generated by the source bus line current.

In a circular economy, an enterprise should pursue long-term business and economic opportunities for environmental and societal benefits. One of the critical issues in industries with a circular economy is the development of the reverse logistics system for semi-finished product packaging and shipping. There are several challenges while designing this system;for example, the use of reusable semi-finished product shipping boxes and a logistics system for shipping the products and returning these boxes. In this research, under the context of global manufacturing, a logistics system for reusable semi-finished product packaging in lcd panel industry is studied. The cost models of semi-finished product packaging in a traditional logistics mode and a green logistics mode are introduced. In the green logistics mode, the shipping boxes are redesigned to be reusable and capable of accommodating multiple various-sized panels simultaneously. The cost models involve material cost, shipping, and recycling cost. The economic performances of the traditional and green logistics modes at different package recycling levels are analyzed. The results show that the total cost of the green logistics mode is beneficial, always lower than that of the traditional logistics mode, even at a low recycling rate (30%). In addition, in the green mode, the material cost of shipping boxes is the most influential sector of the total cost.

A three- dimension (3D) magnetic near field scanning system was developed to measure source bus line current of a 20-inch size lcd panel. The Euler's angle adjustment mechanism and the laser displacement sensor techniques enabled the accuracy of the X, Y, and Z positioning as 0.03 mm, 0.35 mm and 0.05 mm respectively. The measurement results produced distinct source bus line current result up to almost 90 % of the lcd length for the first time. The measured peak current intensity was within the predicted range. Qualitative agreement was obtained between the calculated and measured current waveforms.

Analysis of source bus line current inside of an active matrix type liquid crystal display is proposed based on a microstrip line model, consisting of the source bus line and ITO resistances, the source bus line inductance and the liquid crystal capacitance. Experimental study was also performed using a planar shielded loop type magnetic probe we previously developed. When an lcd panel is subjected to pure bending, for example during strength measurement or proof testing, the question arises "does it behave as a monolith of twice the substrate thickness? or does it behave as two independent substrates?". Both theory and experiment Suggest that the panel behavior depends on how its edges are held together, i.e. well bonded'? or loosely held together? Indeed, the former renders the panel nearly twice as strong and four fold as stiff as the latter. This paper will provide the analysis of the bending behavior of a two-layer laminate using St Venant flexure theory. Experimental data, using strain gages, will demonstrate that an lcd panel can behave either as a monolith of twice the substrate thickness or two independent substrates depending on how its four edges are held together in the support structure including the bezel. The paper derives appropriate equations for computing panel strength when it is bent to constant curvature or when its specimens are flexed in 4-point bending for both i) well bonded edges and ii) loosely held edges.

Quality deterioration of reconstructed 3-D images in the electro-holography is discussed. Effects of the bit-depth limitation in quantization, of the phase shift of light caused by the amplitude modulation, and of the amplitude limitation are studied by the numerical simulation. Comparison of optically reconstructed images with numerically reconstructed images shows that the nonlinear characteristics of a lcd panel and the phase shift of light due to the amplitude modulation have significant influences upon the quality of reconstructed images. Especially, the contrast of optically reconstructed images becomes remarkably low. New methods are described for improving the quality of reconstructed images in the experiment. The nonlinear characteristics of the lcd panel and the phase shift of the modulated light can be made correction by data processing in the electro-holography.

Effects of the light-modulation characteristics of a lcd panel on the image reconstruction are discussed. Experimental results show that the optical images are lower in quality than the numerical ones reconstructed from the same hologram. Effects of the bit-depth limitation in quantization, and the phase change of modulated light are studied by the numerical simulation. Simulation results indicate that the nonlinear characteristics of the lcd panel and the phase change of amplitude-modulated light can have considerable influences upon the quality of images. Especially, the contrast of images becomes low. The static or the dynamic characteristics are measured for lcd panels by using the holographic technique, and their effects on the image reconstruction are discussed. New methods are also described for improving the quality of images reconstructed from the holographic display. The nonlinear response of the lcd panel and the phase change of modulated light can be made correction for the improvement of image quality by modifying the complex-amplitude hologram.

Control of the seal edge of LC cells with super narrow periphery is very important for the application to compact AM-lcd designs. Several thermal cure epoxy resins have been studied as candidates for LC panel seal materials, with emphasis on characterizing the seal edge. The factors affecting material selection are its effect on LC alignment, the seal edge waviness or straightness, the formation of the seal edge boundary during lamination and cure and finally, its compatibility with standard cell processing techniques. Optimal seal material selection is discussed in view of its application to the design and fabrication of super narrow periphery LC cells. Cell design of seal edge control is also discussed in view of application of seal characterization and structural contribution, including material and process matching.

The calculation of mean time between failures is very important in reliability life data analysis. For different distributions, the values of mean time between failures are always different. The two-parameter Weibull distribution is widely used in reliability engineering. However, some distributions may offer a better fit of data. This paper aims to develop an algorithm for determining the best-fitted distribution of a liquid crystal display panel based on the field return data. The two-parameter and three-parameter Weibull distributions and other distributions such as the Burr XII distribution, the Pareto distribution and the Log-logistic distribution are compared to provide a better characterization of the life data which is based on the maximum value of all log-likelihood functions. We also provide a goodness-of-fit test for the best-fitted distribution. It is recommended that the Burr XII distribution could be used to characterize the reliability life of a liquid crystal display panel. Copyright (C) 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Research on a New Variotherm Injection Molding Technology and its Application on the Molding of a Large lcd panel

The polymer injection products produced by using the current injection molding method usually have many defects, such as short shot, jetting, sink mark, flow mark, weld mark, and floating fibers. These defects have to be eliminated by using post-processing processes such as spraying and coating, which will cause environment pollution and waste in time, materials, energy and labor. These problems can be solved effectively by using a new injection method, named as variotherm injection molding or rapid heat cycle molding (RHCM). In this paper, a new type of dynamic mold temperature control system using steam as heating medium and cooling water as coolant was developed for variotherm injection molding. The injection mold is heated to a temperature higher than the glass transition temperature of the resin, and keeps this temperature in the polymer melt filling stage. To evaluate the efficiency of steam heating and coolant cooling, the mold surface temperature response during the heating stage and the polymer melt temperature response during the cooling stage were investigated by numerical thermal analysis. During heating, the mold surface temperature can be raised up rapidly with an average heating speed of 5.4 degrees C/s and finally reaches an equilibrium temperature after an effective heating time of 40 s. It takes about 34.5 s to cool down the shaped polymer melt to the ejection temperature for demolding. The effect of main parameters such as mold structure, material of mold insert on heating/cooling efficiency and surface temperature uniformity were also discussed based on simulation results. Finally, a variotherm injection production line for 46-inch lcd panel was constructed. The test production results demonstrate that the mold temperature control system developed in this study can dynamically and efficiently control mold surface temperature without increasing molding cycle time.
