Optimal H-infinity Integral Dynamic State Feedback model reference controller Design for Nonlinear Systems

In this work, a new optimal and robust controller is proposed for nonlinear systems by combining the H-infinity control approach with the model reference control technique. It is carried out with the aid of integral dynamic state feedback control to achieve an adequate transient response by incorporating a reference model. The black hole optimization is used as a novel and efficient optimization algorithm to optimize the design approach. In addition, the proposed controller gain matrix is calculated by solving the H-infinity algebraic Riccati equation. Moreover, the stability properties of the controlled system are demonstrated using Lyapunov stability analysis. Two types of nonlinear systems are used as case studies to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Finally, the simulation results confirm that the proposed controller is very effective in enhancing the stability and performance of the nonlinear systems by compensating them and forcing their states to track the reference model states asymptotically with an acceptable and workable control action.

When Bioregenerative Life Support System (BLSS) is used for long-term deep space exploration in the future, it is possible to perform closed-loop control on growth of microalgae to effectively regulate O-2 production process in emergencies. However, designing controller of microalgae cultivating device (MCD) by means of traditional methods is very difficult or even impossible due to its highly nonlinearity and large operation scope. In our research, the Artificial Neural Network model reference control (ANN-MRC) method was therefore utilized for model identification and controller design for O-2 production process of a specific MCD prototype-photo bioreactor (PBR), based on actual experiment and computer simulation. The results demonstrated that the ANN-MRC servo controller could robustly and self-adaptively control and regulate the light intensity of PBR to make O-2 concentrations in vent pipe be in line with step reference concentrations with prescribed dynamic response performance. This work deals with data-driven control for non-minimum phase (NMP) systems, where the goal is to design a controller for a plant whose model is unknown by using a batch of input-output data collected from it. The approach is based on the model reference paradigm, where a transfer function matrix - the reference model - is used to specify the desired closed-loop performance. The NMP systems issue in model reference approaches is a well-known problem in control literature and it is no different in data-driven methods. This work explains how to adapt the formulation of the Optimal controller Identification (OCI) method to cope with this class of systems. Considering a convenient parametrization of the reference model and a flexible performance criterion, it is possible to identify the NMP transmission zeros of the plant along with the optimal controller parameters, as it will be shown. Both diagonal and block-triangular reference model structures are treated in detail. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Multiple-Warehouse Sliding Mode control with A Predefined Demand Trajectory Profile

The paper discusses the inventory management problem with a single product stored in two warehouses, where each has its unique suppliers with certain lead times. Moreover, one of the warehouses may act as a backup supplier for the other. In other words, product exchange between two different warehouses within one company is allowed. The first warehouse operates under an a priori known time-variant contractual demand and a bounded random one. Its secondary goal is to accumulate emergency stock that can be delivered to the second warehouse within one time period. For this warehouse we use a desired trajectory generator to shape the required stock level and then utilize a trajectory following control law. The demand in the second warehouse is unknown but bounded, and its suppliers have limited delivery capacity. The challenge is to fulfill the customers' needs, although they might exceed the order limit. Therefore, occasional backup supplies from the first warehouse are necessary. For the control of the second warehouse, a simple sliding mode (SM) scheme is applied. The paper proves that, with appropriate compensation of the emergency deliveries in the first warehouse, our proposed control scheme ensures full demand satisfaction in both warehouses despite the second one's control limit.

Adaptive fault-tolerant consensus control for nonlinear multi-agent systems, with application in micro-grids

This paper develops an adaptive fault-tolerant controller, for nonlinear systems affected from external disturbances, time-varying additive actuator faults and effectiveness loss, for the aim of consensus in multi-agent systems. The proposed adaptive fault-tolerant consensus controller is designed for affine nonlinear systems with nonlinear input gain and does not require any unit for fault detection or identification. The proposed controller has two parts. While there is no fault, the control operates only by the first part, which is based on the feedback linearization method. When a fault occurs, the second part compensates the effect of the fault. Both parts use the method of the model reference control. The leader dynamics is the reference model for the first part of the controller and the nominal dynamics of the follower agents is the reference model for the second part of which. In other words, the second part makes the faulty follower agents operate as the nominal follower agents, which are free of faults and disturbances. Then the first part makes the follower agents to operate as the leader agent. Using Lyapunov analysis, it is proved that the consensus error is ultimately bounded. To show the performance of the proposed method, the controller is applied in a micro-grid.

This new paper formulates our previous contributions on model referencecontrol and direct data driven control and proposes new aspects for latter studying. Specif-ically, consider one closed loop system with unknown plant and unknown controller si-multaneously, our mission is to design an optimal controller, while achieving the perfecttracking and disturbance rejection. Two different control strategies are applied to designthis unknown controller, i.e., classical model reference control and direct data driven con-trol, respectively. For classical model reference control, the detailed process and statisticalanalysis are given with other two subjects, for example, condition as one convex optimiza-tion problem and regularization. On the other hand, for direct data driven control, thecontroller design process and its statistical property are also reviewed, while introducingadaptive idea to be adaptive direct data control with one explicit recursive form. Finally,above two different control strategies are applied into aircraft flight system to guaranteeaircraft fly along the desired trajectory.

Due to vast data in information era,direct data driven control is more widely studied all over the world, i.e. designing the unknown controller directly from the measured input-output data,while avoiding the modeling process for the unknown plant. For completeness, after classical model reference control is introduced from our own understanding, i.e. controller design, statistical analysis, algorithm and regularization,we propose a complete synthesis analysis for direct data driven control from some different points, for example, algorithm, statistical analysis and adaptation, so making direct data driven control suit for different environments and paving new roads for further research. To prove our obtained theoretical results, one aircraft flight control system is applied to implement the main essence of direct data driven control strategy.

This paper presents a novel concept for active fault-tolerant control (FTC) of dual system hybrid unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) based on analytical redundancy to increase the operational safety in the face of primary actuator faults. The proposed scheme exploits the inherent over-actuation property of hybrid UAVs when in addition to the aerodynamic surfaces four lift rotors are used to control the aircraft during long range fixed-wing flight mode. Fault tolerance is achieved by utilizing an integral sliding mode based model reference control law combined with control allocation techniques to reallocate control signals among healthy effectors in the face of actuator faults and maintain nominal closed-loop performance. After introducing the modelling procedure of the UAV, including the identification of aerodynamical cross-couplings between lift rotors and airframe dynamics, Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation results are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme in a realistic hardware setup.

The pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven is a multivariable non-linear process. In this paper, a model reference adaptive control using the compensatory fuzzy neural network for the pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven is presented. The dynamics model of the fuzzy neural network of the system is identified by the adaptive compensatory fuzzy learning algorithm, which can be employed as the identifier of the system. Another fuzzy neural network is trained to learn the inverse dynamics of the pressure system of gas collectors of coke oven so that it can be used as a nonlinear controller. The simulation results testify that the model obtained is satisfied and the control is effective.
