A Negotiation-Based multi-objective, multi-Party Decision-Making Model for Inter-Basin Water Transfer Scheme Optimization

The planning and management decisions often involve multiple objectives and multiple parties with conflicting interests due to the complexity of inter-basin water transfer systems. In this paper, the objectives, the groups involved and the corresponding conflicting interests that characterize water transfer decisions are analyzed. A multi-party, multi-objective decision/bargaining model based on the "satisfaction principle" is developed for inter-basin water transfer system decision-making. In order to obtain an ideal multi-party decision, bargaining is first broken down into two stages, and then decision alternatives are chosen using fuzzy pattern recognition. This model is simple, and it is more adaptable for solving practical multi-objective and multi-party decision problems. Finally, an inter-basin water transfer scheme optimization example is demonstrated by using the developed model.

A non-linear IO system is presented in this paper, based on the IO theory and production function theory. It is an extension of the famous Leontief's IO model. The original model is a description of the situation when each sector possesses constant returns to scale characteristics and input factors change by equal proportion. Using the new model, the paper puts forward a new and more flexible adjustment equation of IO coefficients matrix. In addition, an example is given to prove the feasibility and validity of the non-linear IO model. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Stochastic optimisation model for integrated decisions on relief supply chains: preparedness for disaster response

This paper proposes a stochastic linear mixed-integer programming model for integrated decisions in the preparedness and response stages in pre- and post-disaster operations, respectively. We develop a model for integrated decisions that considers three key areas of emergency logistics: facility and stock prepositioning, evacuation planning and relief vehicle planning. To develop a framework for effective relief operations, we consider not only a cost-based but also an equity-based solution approach in our multiple objectives model. Then a normalised weighted sum method is used to parameterise our multiple objective programming model. This paper suggests a compromise between the cost, and the equity of relief victims. The experiments also demonstrate how time restrictions and the availability of relief vehicles impact the two objective functions.

Effects of Price Range Variation on Optimal Sizing and Energy Management Performance of a Hybrid Fuel Cell Vehicle

The usage of multi-objective cost functions (MOCFs) in sizing and energy management strategy (EMS) of fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEVs) has expanded due to the participation of multiple technological and economic disciplines. To better understand the impact of price fluctuation on the component size and EMS of an FCHEV, this article proposed a sensitivity analysis methodology. First, a two-step optimization approach that considers hydrogen consumption, system degradation, and trip cost is used to minimize a MOCF of the Can-Am Spyder electric motorcycle simulator. Then, an effect analysis is carried out for the cost-optimal results under two driving profiles to understand the link between cost variation and system performance. These simulations indicate that each might result in different system sizes and EMS compromise. After that, an online optimization EMS based on sequential quadratic programming is used on a reduced-scale hardware-in-the-loop configuration to evaluate the simulation results with varied weights. Experimental results indicate that when an adequate size is used for each pair of weights, the EMS results in a 6% decrease in the trip cost.

Designing a sustainable closed-loop supply chain network based on triple bottom line approach: A comparison of metaheuristics hybridization techniques

Recently, there is a growing concern about the environmental and social footprint of business operations. While most of the papers in the field of supply chain network design focus on economic performance, recently, some studies have considered environmental dimensions. However, there still exists a gap in quantitatively modeling social impacts together with environmental and economic impacts. In this study, this gap is covered by simultaneously considering the three pillars of sustainability in the network design problem. A mixed integer programming model is developed for this multi-objective closed-loop supply chain network problem. In order to solve this NP-hard problem, three novel hybrid metaheuristic methods are developed which are based on adapted imperialist competitive algorithms and variable neighborhood search. To test the efficiency and effectiveness of these algorithms, they are compared not only with each other but also with other strong algorithms. The results indicate that the nested approach achieves better solutions compared with the others. Finally, a case study for a glass industry is used to demonstrate the applicability of the approach. Environmental performance-Impacts of vendor-buyer coordination

Effective coordination is a hallmark of successful supply chain management. Without such coordination, vendors and buyers will act independently to make decisions that optimize their own objectives (e.g., maximize their respective profits or minimize their costs). This non-coordinated approach is unlikely to be optimal when one considers the supply chain as a whole. Most vendor-buyer coordination research concentrates only on an objective of minimizing total system costs;but with the increasing environmental awareness in business and the general public, many organizations acknowledge that strategies and practices which incorporate environmental considerations are essential to acquire a competitive advantage. The objectives of this research are concerned not only with the economic impact of vendor-buyer coordination on the organizations involved, but also with the wider effects on society, such as the effects of pollution on the environment. This research demonstrates how to effectively incorporate environmental issues into vendor-buyer coordination. First, we study the impacts of cost-minimizing vendor-buyer coordination models on environmental performance when compared with independent (non-coordinated) optimization. Second, we develop a single-vendor multi-buyer coordination model that includes both costs and environmental performance measures in its objective function. A numerical example and a real case study show how both the total system cost and the environmental performance can be simultaneously improved. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

multi-objective probabilistically constrained programs with variable risk: Models for multi-portfolio financial optimization

We consider a class of multi-objective probabilistically constrained programs (MOPCP) with a joint probabilistic constraint and a variable risk level. We consider two cases with only a random right-hand side vector or a multi-row random technology matrix, and propose a Boolean modeling framework to derive new mixed-integer linear programs (MILP) that are either equivalent reformulations or inner approximations of MOPCP, respectively. Via testing randomly generated MOPCP instances, we demonstrate modeling insights pertaining to the most suitable MILP, to the trade-offs between conflicting objectives of cost/revenue and reliability, and to the parameter scalarization determining relative importance of each objective. We then focus on several MOPCP variants of a multi-portfolio financial optimization problem to implement a downside risk measure, which can be used in a centralized or decentralized investment context. We study the impact of modeling parameters on the portfolios, show, via a cross-validation study, robustness of MOPCP, and perform a comparative analysis of the optimal investment decisions. Pathways to a low-carbon economy: Estimations on macroeconomic costs and potential of carbon emission abatement in Beijing

Developing reliable frameworks to estimate the potential of CO2 emission abatement and its associated costs merits urgent attention. This study aims to estimate the potential as well as macroeconomic costs of CO2 emission abatement in Beijing. Using the industrial economy as the basis, multiobjective programming and genetic algorithm are integrated into the input output analysis. Several important findings have been gathered in the study: (1) The abatement cost varies between $259.97 and $535.46 per ton at different rates of economic growth. (2) A reinforced emission abatement target can induce higher macroeconomic costs. (3) An inverse U-shaped relationship between CO2 reduction cost and GDP growth rate was found. When GDP growth rate is above the threshold value of 7%, marginal abatement costs decrease rapidly in parallel with GDP growth. When the GDP growth rate is below 7%, the marginal abatement cost increases significantly with economic growth. (4) Industries that have the highest and least potential of abatement have been identified. For effectively reducing CO2 emissions, Beijing needs to promote economic restructuring to maximize the potential of emission abatement and also fulfil the emission abatement target in a cost-effective way. This paper provides a quantitative approach to rationalize the policy design process of enacting emission targets and recommends cost-effective abatement strategies. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Input estimation and identification of extra inputs in inverse DEA models

In this paper we show that the inverse data envelopment analysis (DEA) models can be used to estimate inputs for a decision making unit (DMU) when some or all outputs and efficiency level of this DMU are increased or preserved. An approach is also introduced to identify extra inputs (maximum reduction amounts in inputs) when the outputs are estimated using the proposed models by Yan et al. [European Journal of Operational Research 136 (2002) 19] and Jahanshahloo et al. [Applied Mathematics and Computation 19 (2003)]. Blood supply chain management: robust optimization, disruption risk, and blood group compatibility (a real-life case)

Based on the uncertain conditions such as uncertainty in blood demand and facility disruptions, and also, due to the uncertain nature of blood products such as perishable lifetime, distinct blood groups, and ABO-Rh(D) compatibility and priority rules among these groups, this paper aims to contribute blood supply chains under uncertainty. In this respect, this paper develops a bi-objective two-stage stochastic programming model for managing a red blood cells supply chain that observes above-mentioned issues. This model determines the optimum location-allocation and inventory management decisions and aims to minimize the total cost of the supply chain includes fixed costs, operating costs, inventory holding costs, wastage costs, and transportation costs along with minimizing the substitution levels to provide safer blood transfusion services. To handle the uncertainty of the blood supply chain environment, a robust optimization approach is devised to tackle the uncertainty of parameters, and the TH method is utilized to make the bi-objective model solvable. Then, a real case study of Mashhad city, in Iran, is implemented to demonstrate the model practicality as well as its solution approaches, and finally, the computational results are presented and discussed. Further, the impacts of the different parameters on the results are analyzed which help the decision makers to select the value of the parameters more accurately.
