Ecological restoration of degraded wetland ecosystem can be achieved by planning experts according to ground investigation, but with low efficiencies. We report that satellite sensors, maximizing ecosystem service values and minimizing ecological restoration cost improve ecological restoration efficiency. In particular, multi-objective linear programming (MOLIP), an optimal programming, improves ecological restoration efficiency by more than 250% in the return on investment of ecological restoration, using TM satellite as area sensors. MOLIP also enables efficient introduction of ecological restoration management without introduction of planning experts and ground investigation.

This work addresses the correction and improvement of Mavrotas and Diakoulaki's branch and bound algorithm for mixed 0-1 multiple objectivelinear programs. We first elaborate the issues encountered by the original algorithm and then propose a corrected version for the biobjective case using an exact representation of the nondominated set associated with an appropriate update procedure. For high-tech companies to consider when purchasing product, product life cycle cost is one of the most important evaluation tools. We develop a new efficient solution product life cycle cost model that addresses ten goals such as net cost minimization, rejection minimization, late delivery minimization, and minimization of product life cycle cost subject to three realistic vendor capacities and three budget constraints. The results achieved with the four types of goal programming approaches should be useful for determining vendor quotas in supply chain if the capacity and budget constraints of each vendor are not known with certainty. Moreover, we provide high-tech case study how one can solve the product life cycle cost problem within a single-buyer-multiple-supplier procurement situation. Our study main contribution is managers at high-tech companies can easily apply our model to select their vendors in a fuzzy environment.

This research uses an optimization model to compare the role of rooftop solar generation versus large-scale solar and wind farm installations in renewable energy planning. The model consists of competing objectives, minimizing annual generation costs and minimizing annual greenhouse gas emissions. Rather than focus on the individual consumer's investment decision, over 20 scenarios were developed which explored key input parameters such as the maximum penetration level of rooftop solar installations, pricing of equipment, tax credits, and net-metering policy to determine what role rooftop solar plays in renewable energy investment at an aggregate level. The research finds that at lower levels of penetration, such as those currently found in the United States, other renewable energy sources remain viable options, thus rooftop solar should be just one option considered when increasing development of renewable energy sources. The research also shows that a balanced approach taking into account both of the opposing objectives will lead to greater levels of rooftop solar generation than focusing solely on cost or emissions. Therefore, rooftop solar should be considered as part of an overall balanced approach to increasing renewable energy generation. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This study develops a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming (FMOLP) model for solving the multi-objective no-wait flow shop scheduling problem in a fuzzy environment. The proposed model attempts to simultaneously minimize the weighted mean completion time and the weighted mean earliness. A numerical example demonstrates the feasibility of applying the proposed model to no-wait flow shop scheduling problem. In fuzzy single and multi-objective minimal cost flow (MCF) problems, it is assumed that there is only one conveyance which can be used for transporting the product. However, in real life problems, more than one conveyance is used for transporting the product. To the best of our knowledge untill now no method is proposed in the literature for solving such fuzzy single and multi-objective MCF problems in which more than one conveyance is used for transporting the product and all the parameters, as well as all the decision variables that are represented by fuzzy numbers. In this paper, these types of fuzzy multi-objective MCF problems are called fully fuzzy multi-objective solid minimal cost flow (SMCF) problems and a new method is proposed for solving these problems. The advantages of the proposed methods are also discussed.

Recent research mainly focuses on the water resources management or water distribution network management separately. In this paper, a joint optimal model for water allocation and water distribution network management is developed. In the first phase, a multi-objectives linearprogramming is used for the optimal allocation on multi-water resources for multi-users, in which cost and water conservation are regards as objectives. In the second phase, a non-linear model is proposed, which is solved by single-objective GA linking to EPANET hydraulic solver. The result of the first phase is a parameter of the objective in the second phase.

This research effort details the modeling component of a comprehensive decision support system for energy planning that allows for combining existing electricity generating capabilities with increased use of renewable energy sources. It focuses on energy planning at the regional level, and it is illustrated by applying it to the greater southern Appalachian mountains of the eastern United States: a region that was chosen for analysis not only due to its heavy dependence on coal for electricity, but also because of its potential for increased use of wind and solar power. The paper specifically discusses the development of a multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) model that can be used to determine the optimal mix of renewable energy sources and existing fossil fuel facilities on a regional basis. This model allows a decision maker to balance annual generation costs against the corresponding greenhouse gas emissions, and it provides significant support for implementing a variety of different policy analyses. While conventional Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models set targets for each operational unit, this paper considers the problem of input/output reduction in a centralized decision making environment. The purpose of this paper is to develop an approach to input/output reduction problem that typically occurs in organizations with a centralized decision-making environment. This paper shows that DEA can make an important contribution to this problem and discusses how DEA-based model can be used to determine an optimal input/output reduction plan.
