An Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm Based on nonlinear parameters and Feedback Mechanism

Whale optimization algorithm, as a relatively novel swarm-based intelligence optimization algorithm, has been extensively utilized in numerous scientific and engineering fields. The intent of this work was to devise a modified WOA based on multi-strategy, named MSWOA, to address somewhat deficiencies of the original WOA, such as converging slowly, stagnating at local minima and poor stability. First, a tent map function is adopted to optimize the distribution of the initial population in problem domain. Second, new iteration-based update strategies of convergence factor and inertia weight are constructed to regulate the balance between global and local search capabilities and improve the optimization ability. Additionally, an optimal feedback strategy is presented in the search for prey stage to enhance the global search ability. Numerical experimental results based on 24 test benchmark functions reveal that the proposed MSWOA significantly improves the standard WOA in terms of solution accuracy and convergence speed, and outperforms the comparison algorithms. Furthermore, the results show that the inertia weight strategy has the greatest effect on the performance of basic WOA performance, followed by the convergence factor, and then the optimal feedback strategy.

A balanced armature receiver is a multi-physics product in which there is a coupling between the electromagnetic and mechanical domains. To come up with a more accurate analysis method, the nonlinear parameters are considered as functions of current and displacement based on the finite-element method. The current and displacement are solved using the voltage equation through the numerical iteration method. Simulation results are verified through experiments.

Linear and nonlinear parameters for the analysis of fetal heart rate signal from cardiotocographic recordings

Antepartum fetal monitoring based on the classical cardiotocography (CTG) is a noninvasive and simple tool for checking fetal status. Its introduction in the clinical routine limited the occurrence of fetal problems leading to a reduction of the precocious child mortality. Nevertheless, very poor indications on fetal pathologies can be inferred from the even automatic CTG analysis methods, which are actually employed. The feeling is that fetal heart rate (FHR) signals and uterine contractions carry much more information on fetal state than is usually extracted by classical analysis methods. In particular, FHR signal contains indications about the neural development of the fetus. However, the methods actually adopted for judging a CTG trace as "abnormal" give weak predictive indications about fetal dangers. We propose a new methodological approach for the CTG monitoring, based on a multiparametric FHR analysis, which includes spectral parameters from autoregressive models and nonlinear algorithms (approximate entropy). This preliminary study considers 14 normal fetuses, eight cases of gestational (maternal) diabetes, and 13 intrauterine growth retarded fetuses. A comparison with the traditional time domain analysis is also included. This paper shows that the proposed new parameters are able to separate normal from pathological fetuses. Results constitute the first step for realizing a new clinical classification system for the early diagnosis of most common fetal pathologies.

Detection of seizures in EEG using subband nonlinear parameters and genetic algorithm

Detection of seizures in EEG can be challenging because of myogenic artifacts and might be time-consuming. In this study, we propose a method using subband nonlinear parameters and genetic algorithm for automatic seizure detection in EEG. In the experiment, the discrete wavelet transform was used to decompose EEG into five subband components. nonlinear parameters were extracted and employed as the features to train the support vector machine with linear kernel function (SVML) and radial basis function kernel function (SVMRBF) classifiers. A genetic algorithm (GA) was used for selecting the effective feature subset. The seizure detection sensitivities of the SVML and the SVMRBF with GA are 90.8% and 94.0%, respectively. The sensitivity of SVMRBF increases to 95.8% by using GA for weight adjustment. Moreover, the proposed method is capable of discriminating the interictal EEG of epileptic subjects from the normal EEG, which is considered difficult, yet crucial, in clinical services. The assessment of motor function is critical to the rehabilitation of stroke patients. However, commonly used evaluation methods are based on behavior scoring, which lacks neurological indicators that directly reflect the motor function of the brain. The objective of this study was to investigate whether resting-state EEG indicators could improve stroke rehabilitation evaluation. We recruited 68 participants and recorded their resting-state EEG data. According to Brunnstrom stage, the participants were divided into three groups: severe, moderate, and mild. Ten quantitative electroencephalographic (QEEG) and five non-linear parameters of resting-state EEG were calculated for further analysis. Statistical tests were performed, and the genetic algorithm-support vector machine was used to select the best feature combination for classification. We found the QEEG parameters show significant differences in Delta, Alpha1, Alpha2, DAR, and DTABR (P < 0.05) among the three groups. Regarding nonlinear parameters, ApEn, SampEn, Lz, and C-0 showed significant differences (P < 0.05). The optimal feature classification combination accuracy rate reached 85.3%. Our research shows that resting-state EEG indicators could be used for stroke rehabilitation evaluation.

The dependence of the eigenvalues of matrices representing a quantum-chemical Hamiltonian in a model space on the nonlinear parameters of the trial functions is analyzed. Several theorems useful in determining the dependence of the matrix eigenvalues on the parameters are presented and their implications on the choice of the orbital basis sets are briefly discussed. A simple method of optimization of the parameter values is formulated.

PP intervals of pulse main peaks under different physiological states have different nonlinear characteristics. The chaos of PP intervals of pulse main peaks is identified by surrogate data method. With surrogate data method, which is applied to identifying the existing chaos of PP intervals of pulse, it is proved that the series of PP intervals of pulse are chaotic. Some characteristic parameters in the method are used to compare PP intervals of pulse main peaks under different physiological states. A digital signal measuring and recording device for pulse waves is developed. nonlinear parameters (correlative dimensions, maximum Lyapunov exponents, complexity and approximate entropy) of the PP intervals of pulse main peaks extracted from pulse waves are calculated. The results show that these nonlinear parameters calculated from PP intervals of pulse main peaks are helpful for analyzing human's different physiological states.

In order to meet the refinery's requirements on the properties of raw materials, improve the hydraulic stability of pipeline transporting process, and reduce the energy consumption, it's necessary to mix up different crude oils transported in pipeline. The traditional method to obtain the physical properties of mixed crude oil, especially the nonlinear parameters such as viscosity and pour point, is experiment test or empirical formula, but the disadvantage is the heavy workload or limited use conditions. In this paper, a nonlinear parameters prediction model based on LS-SVM is put forward for transporting mixed crude oil in pipeline. The modeling method of the nonlinear parameters prediction based on LS-SVM: 1 normalize the different batch sample data;2 the kernel function of SVM is Gaussian RBF;3 regress coefficients by genetic algorithm;4 train parameters and then obtain the nonlinear parameters prediction model. The nonlinear parameters prediction model based on LS-SVM has superiority in aspects of reliability, modeling efficiency, universality and adaptability. It can adapt to the dynamic requirements of refinery on crude oil properties, make full use of the accumulated mixed crude oils' physical properties and their mixing ratio. The prediction accuracy of non-linear parameters model can be improved continuously. And then, the rationality and efficiency of online mixed transportation in pipeline can be improved effectively.

The nonlinear parameters of an interference electromyogram in two-day-old human newborns

The temporal structure of an interference electromyogram (iEMG) was studied in healthy one- and two-day-old human newborns (n = 76) using nonlinear parameters (correlation and fractal dimension, correlation entropy). It was found that the nonlinear parameters of iEMG were time-dependent because they decreased during the first two days of life. These parameters were also sensitive to the muscle function, because the correlation dimension, fractal dimension, and correlation entropy of iEMG of the gastrocnemius muscle differed from the same parameters of other muscles. Some nonlinear parameters were found to be independent of the iEMG amplitude. This model of early ontogenesis is expected to be useful for studying antigravitational activity. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

This paper presents a simple method to extract nonlinear parameters of GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) for Volterra-Series analysis. With measuring the harmonic powers and phase polarities at various attenuations, the nonlinear parameters could be solved in least-square sense to reduce the measured: uncertainties. The extracted data are validated by the two-tone measurements for a wide-range bias sweep.
