Linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations and their application to multi-criteria decision making

Linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy sets can be regarded as a qualitative form of intuitionistic fuzzy sets. This type of fuzzy sets uses a linguistic membership degree and a linguistic non-membership degree to represent the qualitative preferred and non-preferred judgments of decision makers. Preference relation is a useful and efficient tool for decision making that only requires the decision makers to compare two objects at one time. Taking the advantages of linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy sets and preference relations, this paper introduces linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations (LIFPRs) and studies their application to decision making. To ensure the ranking of objects reasonably, an additive consistency concept is introduced, and several of its desirable properties are discussed. To cope with inconsistent and incomplete LIFPRs, programming model-based methods to derive additively consistent LIFPRs and determine missing values are constructed, respectively. Subsequently, an approach to multi-criteria decision making with LIFPRs is offered, and the application of the new approach is illustrated by using a decision-making problem about evaluating mobile phones.

Tensions between private and public benefit associated with carbon farming

Theory posits that land use sustainability could be improved through implementation of management regimes that balance land manager aspirations on the one hand with those of society on the other. Here, our aim was to contrast private and public benefits realised from grazing management approaches aimed at either maximising farm enterprise profit or soil organic carbon (SOC) accrual. When grazing management was conducted with the aim of maximising profit, a fast rotation, high stocking rate regime was optimal;enterprise profit was $AU55/ha/ year higher than optimal management approaches for maximising SOC accrual. In contrast, flexible grazing management (with varying duration based on leaf stage and biomass availability) tended maximise SOC accrual, with 0.4 t/ha/year more SOC accrual than the continuous grazing treatment. As concurrent adoption of multiple farm management regimes better reflect real-world practicalities, we also examined how optimal farm management differed when one or two grazing approaches were operationalised to maximise profit and SOC accrual simultaneously. Simultaneous adoption of multiple grazing treatments on farm elicited greater profit ($AU7/ha/ year higher than when one management approach adopted across the whole farm), with the most preferable regime being a combination of fast rotation with high stocking rate and flexible grazing. Effects of carbon price and farm size were more influential on production and profit compared with weather variability, even though the latter altered the trajectory of seasonal SOC accrual. For carbon prices of $AU31/t CO2-e, 2-e, flexible and high intensity fast rotational grazing were each adopted on around half of farm area;as carbon prices increased to $AU50/t CO2-e, 2-e, flexible grazing management across the entire farm resulted in the greatest profit and SOC (additional 0.21 t SOC/ha/year under the flexible grazing treatment cf. continuous grazing). The improvements in semiconductor technologies are gradually enabling extreme-scale systems such as teradevices (i.e., chips composed by 1000 billion of transistors), most likely by 2020. Three major challenges have been identified: programmability, manageable architecture design, and reliability. TERAFLUX is a Future and Emerging Technology (FET) large-scale project funded by the European Union, which addresses such challenges at once by leveraging the dataflow principles. This paper presents an overview of the research carried out by the TERAFLUX partners and some preliminary results. Our platform comprises 1000+ general purpose cores per chip in order to properly explore the above challenges. An architectural template has been proposed and applications have been ported to the platform. programming models, compilation tools, and reliability techniques have been developed. The evaluation is carried out by leveraging on modifications of the HP-Labs COTSon simulator. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Improving the Performance of Actors on Multi-cores with Parallel Patterns

The Actor-based programming model is largely used in the context of distributed systems for its message-passing semantics and neat separation between the concurrency model and the underlying hardware platform. However, in the context of a single multi-core node where the performance metric is the primary optimization objective, the "pure" Actor model is generally not used because Actors cannot exploit the physical shared-memory, thus reducing the optimization options. In this work, we propose to enrich the Actor model with some well-known Parallel Patterns to face the performance issues of using the "pure" Actor model on a single multi-core platform. In the experimental study, conducted on two different multi-core systems by using the C++ Actor Framework, we considered a subset of the Parsec benchmarks and two Savina benchmarks. The analysis of results demonstrates that the Actor model enriched with suitable Parallel Patterns implementations provides a robust abstraction layer capable of delivering performance results comparable with those of thread-based libraries (i.e. Pthreads and FastFlow) while offering a safer and versatile programming environment.

A nonlinear-programming methodology for multi-attribute decision-making problem with interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy soft sets information

Interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) soft set is one of the useful extensions of the fuzzy soft set which efficiently deals with the uncertain data for the decision-making processes. In this paper, an attempt has been made to present a nonlinear-programming (NP) model based on the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), to solve multi-attribute decision-making problems. In this approach, both ratings of alternatives on attributes and weights of attributes are represented by IVIF sets. Based on the available information, NP models are constructed on the basis of the concepts of the relative-closeness coefficient and the weighted distance. Some NP models are further deduced to calculate relative-closeness of sets of alternatives which can be used to generate the ranking order of the alternatives. A real example is taken to demonstrate the applicability and validity of the proposed methodology.

legaSCi: Legacy SystemC model Integration into Parallel Simulators

Architects and developers use virtual prototypes of computer systems to receive early feedback on hardware design decisions as well as to develop and debug system software. This is facilitated by the comprehensive inspection capabilities virtual prototypes offer. For virtual prototypes, execution speed is crucial to support the users' productivity. Parallel simulation techniques are employed to offset the speed impact of the increasing number of cores that need to be simulated in virtual prototypes of parallel and embedded systems. SystemC is the de facto industry standard library for virtual platform modeling. Since currently no parallel SystemC library is commonly available, typical SystemC models are coded for execution in sequential simulation environments. Simply putting such models into parallel simulators may lead to thread-safety issues and may additionally cause nondeterministic simulator behavior. This article proposes a methodology to support simulation creators to face the challenge of integrating such legacy models into parallel SystemC environments. The feasibility of the proposed method is evaluated by parallelizing the latest instance of the EU FP7 project EURETILE embedded platform simulator. Using legaSCi, on four host processor cores a speedup of 2.13x is demonstrated, without having to change the individual models of the simulator.

SmartGridRPC: The new RPC model for high performance Grid computing

The paper presents the SmartGridRPC model, an extension of the GridRPC model, which aims to achieve higher performance. The traditional GridRPC provides a programming model and API for mapping individual tasks of an application in a distributed Grid environment, which is based on the client-server model characterized by the star network topology. SmartGridRPC provides a programming model and API for mapping a group of tasks of an application in a distributed Grid environment, which is based on the fully connected network topology. The SmartGridRPC programming model and API and its performance advantages over the GridRPC model are outlined in this paper. The Horizon 2020 MANGO project aims at exploring deeply heterogeneous accelerators for use in High Performance Computing systems running multiple applications with different Quality of Service (QoS) levels. The main goal of the project is to exploit customization to adapt computing resources to reach the desired QoS. For this purpose, it explores different but interrelated mechanisms across the architecture and system software. In particular, in this paper we focus on the runtime resource management, the thermal management, and support provided for parallel programming, as well as introducing three applications on which the project foreground will be validated.

Deriving priority weights from intuitionistic fuzzy multiplicative preference relations

Intuitionistic fuzzy multiplicative preference relations (IFMPRs), as an extension of multiplicative preference relations, can denote the decision-makers' (DMs') preferred and nonpreferred degrees simultaneously. Just as any other type of preference relations, consistency is crucial to guarantee the rational ranking orders. Thus, this paper introduces a new consistent concept for IFMPRs that is a natural extension of crisp case and overcomes the issues in the previous concepts of consistency. To judge the consistency of IFMPRs, several programming models are constructed, and an approach to deriving completely consistent IFMPRs is presented. Considering incomplete case, consistency-based models are built to determine missing values that can address incomplete IFMPRs with the ignored objects, namely, all information for them is unknown. After that, group decision-making with IFMPRs is studied. To measure the agreement degree between the DMs' individual IFMPRs, a new consensus index is defined, and an interactive algorithm to improve the consensus is offered. Based on the consistency and consensus analysis, a new method to group decision-making with IFMPRs is developed. Finally, case studies are offered to show the application of the new procedure and to compare it with previous methods.

Consensus building for hesitant fuzzy preference relations with multiplicative consistency

Considering that consensus is an essential part of a group decision-making process, this study focuses on building consensus for hesitant fuzzy preference relations (HFPRs) with multiplicative consistency. To achieve this goal, firstly, a new multiplicative consistency concept for the HFPR is proposed. The main feature of the proposed multiplicative consistency concept is that this concept considers all information provided by decision makers and does not require normalising the HFPR. Secondly, several programming models are constructed to verify the complete multiplicative consistency of the HFPR. If the HFPR fails to demonstrate a complete multiplicative consistency, then a multiplicative consistency index is proposed to measure its consistency degree. Simultaneously, an algorithm is introduced to improve the multiplicative consistency degree. Thirdly, an algorithm is designed to derive priority weight vectors from the HFPR. The proposed algorithm addresses the situation in which the HFPR exhibits not only a complete multiplicative consistency but also an acceptable multiplicative consistency. Fourthly, a consensus measure index based on extraction priority weight vectors is introduced. Concurrently, several programming models are constructed to achieve the expected consensus level. Finally, to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, an example is provided, and comparative studies with several existing methods are presented.
