Recently link weight prediction has attracted an increasing research interest due to its merits in quantifying the strength between nodes within a graph. Nonetheless, current link weight prediction methods focus solely on graph topology, disregarding node feature information embedded in graphs. In real-world applications, we often collect heterogeneous graph data where multiple types of nodes linked by multiple types of edges are available for analysis, and it is essential and challenging to quantify the proximity of different types of nodes. To solve this challenge, we present a new model for Heterogeneous Graph Link Weight Prediction (HLWP for short). In HLWP, message passing in heterogeneous graph neural networks is described as a meta structure, which can be effectively designed by Differentiable Neural Architecture Search (DARTS) algorithms. Thus, HLWP can enhance the message passing in heterogeneous graphs by DARTS. In addition, HLWP employs a perturbation-based algorithm to enhance stability and precision. Through empirical experiments conducted on three real-world datasets, we demonstrate that HLWP achieves accurate predictions of link weights. Our results highlight the superiority of HLWP over existing methods for link weight prediction and baseline GNN models in terms of accurately predicting link weights within heterogeneous graphs.

Adapting large-scale image-text pre-training models, e.g., CLIP, to the video domain represents the current state-of-the-art for text-video retrieval. The primary approaches involve transferring text-video pairs to a common embedding space and leveraging cross-modal interactions on specific entities for semantic alignment. Though effective, these paradigms entail prohibitive computational costs, leading to inefficient retrieval. To address this, we propose a simple yet effective method, Global-Local Semantic Consistent Learning (GLSCL), which capitalizes on latent shared semantics across modalities for text-video retrieval. Specifically, we introduce a parameter-free global interaction module to explore coarse-grained alignment. Then, we devise a shared local interaction module that employs several learnable queries to capture latent semantic concepts for learning fine-grained alignment. Furthermore, an Inter-Consistency Loss (ICL) is devised to accomplish the concept alignment between the visual query and corresponding textual query, and an Intra-Diversity Loss (IDL) is developed to repulse the distribution within visual (textual) queries to generate more discriminative concepts. Extensive experiments on five widely used benchmarks (i.e., MSR-VTT, MSVD, DiDeMo, LSMDC, and ActivityNet) substantiate the superior effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method. Remarkably, our method achieves comparable performance with SOTA as well as being nearly 220 times faster in terms of computational cost. Code is available at: https://***/zchoi/GLSCL.

This article investigates a control system within the context of sixth-generation wireless networks. The remote control performance optimization confronts the technical challenges that arise from the intricate interactions between communication and control sub-systems, asking for a co-design. Considering the system dynamics, we formulate the sequential co-design decision-makings of communication and control over a discrete time horizon as a Markov decision process, for which a practical offline learning framework is proposed. Our proposed framework integrates large language models into the elements of reinforcement learning. We present a case study on the age of semantics-aware communication and control co-design to showcase the potential of our proposed learning framework. Furthermore, we discuss the open issues remaining to make our offline learning framework feasible for real-world implementations and highlight the research directions for future explorations. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Due to the risk of releasing carcinogenic nickel ions from conventional 316L stainless steel under a corrosive human body environment, a new variant of steel termed nickel-free stainless steel (NiFSS) has been investigated. The present study investigates the tribological properties and biocompatibility of NiFSS manufactured via laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB/M). The ferritic NiFSS exhibited significantly lower Coefficient of Friction (0.08 to 0.28) and wear rate (1.60 ×10-6 mm3/Nm to 6.60 ×10-6 mm3/Nm) compared to reported values for austenitic 316L SS, under both dry and simulated body fluid (SBF) conditions and various sliding geometries. This improvement is attributed to the superior hardness (3.394 ± 0.1340 GPa) and elastic modulus (238 ± 9.0797 GPa) of NiFSS. To assess the biocompatibility, the viability of mouse pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells was evaluated with an Alamar Blue assay when the cells were cultured on top of PBF-LB/M built NiFSS and 316L SS samples. The results indicated that even though cell growth was most optimal on regular cell culture plastic, cell viability was better maintained on PBF-LB/M built NiFSS compared to 316L SS. Therefore, the results of the present study propose that PBF-LB/M fabricated NiFSS holds promise for application in biomedical devices for joint arthroplasty. © 2024, The Authors. Engineers worldwide use the ISO GPS (Geometrical Production Specification and Verification) as a common language to express and exchange the geometrical information of a product and its digital twin. This paper presents a survey of engineering education of the Geometrical Production Specification and Verification (ISO GPS) in China. The research was conducted in 2021, and the purpose is to better understand the current situation in the delivery and usage of ISO GPS. It consists of a literature review of 66 published textbooks, an online questionnaire from 325 educators/students/engineers, who are from five universities and a standardisation committee. The results of this survey are presented and discussed graphically. The results show that:1) there is a significant gap between the textbook teaching and the latest ISO GPS standards;2) the frequency of the latest ISO GPS usage is relatively low;3) the current delivery methods cannot address the requirements of end-users soundly. A discussion of the possible solution is presented as well. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Toward the realization of quantum information processing (QIP), continuous-variable (CV) system is a promising candidate, where scalable quantum information processors are already demonstrated [1]. The next milestone is the demonstration of universality and fault-tolerance on these processors by injecting highly non-classical quantum states, non-Gaussian states (NGSs), with a proper temporal waveform [2]. NGSs are very fragile to optical losses, however, and engineering temporal waveform of NGSs is a quite nontrivial task that requires completely different methodology from conventional optical wave shaping.

Hip fractures is the most common hip clinical trauma. The majority of elderly patients experience a decrease in bone density due to osteoporosis, making them highly prone to various types of hip fractures. In this context, accurate diagnosis and classification of hip fractures are crucial for guiding clinical decision-making and ensuring the best possible patient outcomes. The BV C- N et proposed in this study is a two-stage model for the identification of hip fracture types, which is based on the integration of the V-Net and ConvNeXt architectures. First, deep learning segmentation model is trained to generate candidate fracture regions, and then, a deep learning classification model is trained in the second stage to classify the segmented local fracture regions according to the candidate fracture regions generated in the first stage to ascertain the type of fracture. The results show that the two-stage deep learning model proposed in this study enhances the accuracy of hip fracture type recognition and reduces the time required for manual classification, which can better assist doctors in fracture region recognition. © 2024 IEEE.

Self-Powered Wound Patch with Antioxidant Activity for Accelerating Seawater Immersed Wound Healing

Due to the complex microenvironment of seawater, seawater immersed wounds can generate an excess of reactive oxygen species (ROS), resulting in impeding wound healing and even threatening patient lives. Nevertheless, research on the treatment of seawater immersed wounds is lacking. Here, a novel self-powered wound patch with antioxidant activity (termed HAP/TENG) is developed to promote seawater immersed wound healing. The HAP/TENG integrates a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) with the film loaded with polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs). The TENG can collect and convert biomechanical motion to electrical stimulation for promoting angiogenesis in seawater immersed wounds. The film loaded with PDA NPs (HAP) is fabricated by 2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan and alginate through layer-by-layer self-assembly technique. The PDA NPs endow the HAP film with excellent antioxidant (DPPH scavenging rate exceeding 80.58%) and intracellular ROS scavenging capabilities. Additionally, in vitro assays demonstrate that the HAP film also exhibits outstanding swelling performance, degradability and biocompatibility. In vivo experiments indicate that the HAP/TENG can enhance epidermal reconstruction (regenerative epidermis: 145.45 μm), eliminate inﬂammation (lower CD68 expression), and accelerate angiogenesis (higher CD31 expression) to promote seawater immersed wounds. In summary, the HAP/TENG provides a feasible strategy in the field of promoting seawater immersed wounds. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
