Energy efficiency is very important for wireless sensor network (WSN). This paper presents an evolutionary self-learning scheduling approach (ESSA) to reduce energy consumption for WSN. The ESSA is based on a new proposed scheme - evolutionary Q-learning with continuousaction (EQC) approach, which combines an extension of Q-learning method with particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The action space of EQC is partitioned into lots of subintervals. And each endpoint of the subintervals is characterized by a discrete action value and a Q-value. The continuous action value is the weighted average of discrete actions according to their Q values. The PSO algorithm is combined to let an agent profit the experience of other agents. We valid the ESSA in a MAC protocol and simulation results show that the ESSA is an effective method and performs much better than SMAC protocol.

It is very difficult to capture the target in the microgravity environment, simply by relying on ground operators. Based on shared control theory, this paper effectively combines the decision-making ability of ground operators and the independent ability of space robot, through making full use of independent control ability of the space robot, and reducing operators' workload and working time, to achieve more valid capture for targets. Shared control is more accurate capture of the target compared with teleoperation in experimental.

The emerging industrial metaverses realize the mapping and expanding operations of physical industry into virtual space for significantly upgrading intelligent manufacturing. The industrial metaverses obtain data from various production and operation lines by Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and thus conduct effective data analysis and decision-making, thereby enhancing the production efficiency of the physical space, reducing operating costs, and maximizing commercial value. However, there still exist bottlenecks when integrating metaverses into IIoT, such as the privacy leakage of sensitive data with commercial secrets, IIoT sensing data freshness, and incentives for sharing these data. In this paper, we design a user-defined privacy-preserving framework with decentralized federated learning for the industrial metaverses. To further improve privacy protection of industrial metaverse, a cross-chain empowered federated learning framework is further utilized to perform decentralized, secure, and privacy-preserving data training on both physical and virtual spaces through a hierarchical blockchain architecture with a main chain and multiple subchains. Moreover, we introduce the age of information as the data freshness metric and thus design an age-based contract model to motivate data sensing among IIoT nodes. Numerical results indicate the efficiency of the proposed framework and incentive mechanism in the industrial metaverses. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) based structural health monitoring (SHM) system attracts increasing interest in recent years. However, the restricted bandwidth, memory and energy pose great challenges to the application of SHM in large scale building. Supported by a real engineering project, a WSN based prototype of SHM system is designed in this paper. Acceleration data, synchronously sampled in each sensor node, are transported to a data processing computer through a base station. In order to achieve a high network throughput, a time division multiple access (TDMA) approach is proposed to reduce the packet collision and energy consumption. 17 sensor nodes, one base station and a processing computer are distributed to validate the prototype system. Test results present that the approach, we proposed, can reduce the signal collision and increase data throughput. The prototype is feasible to the SHM project of a large scale building.

Slicing4Meta: An Intelligent Integration Framework with Multi-dimensional Network Resources for Metaverse-as-a-Service in Web 3.0

As the next-generation Internet paradigm, Web 3.0 encapsulates the expectations of user-centric immersion and interaction experiences in a decentralized manner. Metaverse, a virtual world interacting with the physical world, is becoming one of the most potential technology to push forward with Web 3.0. In the Metaverse, users expect to tailor immersive and interactive experiences by customizing real-time Metaverse services (e.g., augmented/virtual reality and digital twin) in the three-dimensional virtual world. Nevertheless, there are still no unified solutions for the Metaverse services in terms of orchestration and management. It is calling for a continuous and seamless evolution of mobile systems to support Metaverse services, and thus bring Metaverse into reality. In this paper, to provide scalable subscription solutions for Metaverse services, we propose a new concept, named Metaverse-as-a-Service (MaaS), in which various physical-virtual components and technologies in the Metaverse can be delivered as services. Furthermore, to unify the orchestration and management of MaaS, we propose a novel framework, called Slicing4Meta, to customize Metaverse services by intelligently integrating MaaS models and the associated multi-dimensional resources on the components and technologies. Additionally, we propose the classification for typical Metaverse services based on the quality of experience (QoE) requirements and illustrate how to fulfill the QoE requirements under the Slicing4Meta framework. We then illustrate a virtual travel study case, in which we examine the relationship between the QoE and the multi-dimensional resources by quantitatively modeling the QoE of Metaverse users. Finally, we discuss some open challenges of Slicing4Meta and propose potential solutions to address the challenges. © 2022, CC BY.

The next generation of Internet services, such as Metaverse, rely on mixed reality (MR) technology to provide immersive user experiences. However, limited computation power of MR headset-mounted devices (HMDs) hinders the deployment of such services. Therefore, we propose an efficient information-sharing scheme based on full-duplex device-to-device (D2D) semantic communications to address this issue. Our approach enables users to avoid heavy and repetitive computational tasks, such as artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) in the view images of all MR users. Specifically, a user can transmit the generated content and semantic information extracted from their view image to nearby users, who can then use this information to obtain the spatial matching of computation results under their view images. We analyze the performance of full-duplex D2D communications, including the achievable rate and bit error probability, by using generalized small-scale fading models. To facilitate semantic information sharing among users, we design a contract theoretic AI-generated incentive mechanism. The proposed diffusion model generates the optimal contract design, outperforming two deep reinforcement learning algorithms, i.e., proximal policy optimization and soft actor-critic algorithms. To solve the problem of seriously distortion while enlarging images via seam carving,we proposed an improved method in this ***,we enlarged the image with hierarchical interpolation model to the size of power of two times of original,which is closest to target size,while applying iterative curvature-based interpolation algorithm to protected areas and nearest interpolation to non-protected *** then,some seams to the target size were avoided via seam carving *** the subjective analysis and objective evaluation,the experiment on both standard library images and spatial images showed that the proposed method gave satisfactory results.
