Nonlinearity in Large-Cycle Cellular Automata

The class of maximal-length cellular automata (CAs) has gained significant attention over the last few years due to the fact that it can generate cycles with the longest possible lengths. For every l of the form l = 2n-1 where n ∈ , a cycle of length l can be generated by a cellular automaton (CA) of size ⌊log2 l⌋ + 1;this maximal-length CA is in fact the optimal (minimum-sized) CA to generate a cycle of length l. However, maximal-length CAs are, in general, linear and have some drawbacks. Moreover, it is nontrivial to address this problem for any l ∈ , that is, removing the constraint that l is of the form 2n-1. In this paper we therefore employ nonlinearity in the rules and aim to generate the near-optimal CA for any given cycle length l, meaning that the generated CAs will be of size n = (⌊log2 l⌋ + 1) + d, where the displacement d is as small as possible. We use a generic operator to concatenate a collection of component CAs of sizes n1, n2, …, nk by employing an evolutionary strategy. Here, n = n1 + n2 + ⋯ + nk and l ≥ lcm(1, 2, …, k ), where i (1 ≤ i ≤ k) is the maximum cycle length of a CA of size ni . An influencing factor in the design of component CAs is to achieve the near-optimal CA for a given cycle length. Here we consider nonlinear reversible large-cycle CAs as component CAs. We also measure the effectiveness of nonlinearity in large-cycle generation. © 2025, Complex Systems Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.

This work provides a basis for studying energy management optimisation in power-split hybrid electric vehicles (PSHEVs) to reduce fuel consumption and increase powertrain efficiency by enforcing a strategy related to battery level and vehicle speed. Three modes were used to operate the vehicle to meet different situations related to available energy and desired speed. These are particularly abundance mode, ascetic mode and optimal mode. For this, a system was designed based on several sub-models written in the discrete EVent system (DEVS) specification. The vehicle's power train and control strategy models were created in the DEVSimPy environment, and a joint simulation was carried out from the composite sub models until the overall model is reached. Simulation results under several driving cycles showed that the proposed system improves the energy consumption of the vehicle in different operating modes of the engines and gives more opportunities to adopt electric motors in vehicle transmission. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Exploring household food security through institutional factors: A statistical and mathematical analysis

Achieving household food security is the tumbling issue of the century. This article explores the factors affecting household food security and solutions by utilizing a synergy of statistical and mathematical models. The methodology section is divided into two portions namely sociological and mathematical methods. Sociologically, 379 household heads were interviewed through structured questions and further analyzed in terms of descriptive and binary logistic regression. The study found that 4 independent variables (poverty, poor governance, militancy, and social stratification) showed a significant association (P = 0.000) to explain variations in the dependent variable (household FS). The Omnibus test value (χ2= 102.386;P = 0.000) demonstrated that the test for the entire model against constant was statistically significant. Therefore, the set of predictor variables could better distinguish the variation in household FS. The Nagelkerke's R Square (R2 = .333) helps to interpret that the prediction variable and the group variables had a strong relationship. Moreover, 23% to 33% variation in FS was explained by the grouping variables (Cox and Snell R2 = 0.237 and Nagelkerke's R2 = 0.333). The significant value of Wald test results for each variable confirmed that the grouping variables (poor governance P = 0.004, militancy P = 0.000, social stratification P = 0.021 and poverty P = 0.000) significantly predicted FS at the household level. Mathematically, all the statistics were validated further through the application of spherical fuzzy mathematics (TOPIS and MADM) to explore what factors are affecting household FS. Thus, the study found that F3 (poverty) > F2 (militancy) > F4 (social stratification) > F1 (poor governance) respectively. Thus, it could be concluded from these findings that the prevalence of poverty dysfunctional all the channels of household FS at the macro and micro levels. Powder crystallography is the experimental science of determining the structure of molecules provided in crystalline-powder form,by analyzing their x-ray diffraction(XRD)*** many materials are readily available as crystalline powder,powder crystallography is of growing usefulness to many ***,powder crystallography does not have an analytically known solution,and therefore the structural inference typically involves a laborious process of iterative design,structural refinement,and domain knowledge of skilled experts.A key obstacle to fully automating the inference process computationally has been formulating the problem in an end-to-end quantitative form that is suitable for machine learning,while capturing the ambiguities around molecule orientation,symmetries,and reconstruction *** we present an ML approach for structure determination from powder diffraction *** works by estimating the electron density in a unit cell using a variational coordinate-based deep neural *** demonstrate the approach on computed powder x-ray diffraction(PXRD),along with partial chemical composition information,as *** evaluated on theoretically simulated data for the cubic and trigonal crystal systems,the system achieves up to 93.4%average similarity(as measured by structural similarity index)with the ground truth on unseen materials,both with known and partially-known chemical composition information,showing great promise for successful structure solution even from degraded and incomplete input *** approach does not presuppose a crystalline structure and the approach are readily extended to other situations such as nanomaterials and textured samples,paving the way to reconstruction of yet unresolved nanostructures.

Recommender systems, widely used in information filtering systems, demonstrate efficacy in suggesting novel items to users. In this study, we propose the application of a recommender system to predict new drug-target associations. Here, drugs are represented as users, while protein targets are treated as items within the recommender system. However, due to sparse data in a matrix of drugs and protein targets, matrix factorization (MF) techniques are employed to decompose the extensive matrix into smaller matrices. We identify non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) and singular value decomposition (SVD) as top-performing models for this task. Subsequently, we integrated them into the traditional recommender system, encompassing both drug-based collaborative filtering and target-based collaborative filtering, to identify new drug-target associations aligned with observed interactions between drugs and target proteins. Finally, we evaluated the performance of our developed recommender system with matrix factorization for drug-target associations and compared the results with those obtained from a recommender system without matrix factorization. © 2024 IEEE.

India is one of the well-known countries whose socioeconomic position is heavily influenced by agriculture. Plant and livestock cultivation are the most important practices in agriculture. The cultivation of food surpluses enables people to live in cities. Agriculture employs over 70 percent of Tamil Nadu's population. It is a key source of income in Tamil Nadu. Paddy cultivation is significant as it is the main food for the majority of the Indians. The dataset used for this study includes various varieties of paddy grown in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. The dataset includes average paddy crop yield, Madurai taluks, soil type, soil pH, nitrogen, temperature, duration, and rainfall. This paper compares different regression algorithms and suggests an optimal algorithm that is used in a ML (Machine Learning) model that forecasts paddy yield. The machine learning regression techniques are multiple linear regression, lasso regression, and ridge regression. This paper concludes by discussing future work topics and the suitable algorithm to be employed in the model for yield prediction of a paddy crop. © 2023 IEEE.
