On cultivation of cybersecurity and safety talents and responsible developers

To address the serious imbalance between the supply and demand of the cybersecurity workforce, this paper proposes to embrace the latest trend of a fundamental shift in the“underlying dynamics of the digital ecosystem”, focusing on a shared liability for cybersecurity between the application side and the manufacturing side. Assuming that product providers shall take more responsibility by implementing secure defaults, this paper explores the establishment of an S&S talent cultivation system to strike the right balance of cybersecurity liabilities by nurturing more responsible developers. This paper proposes a Knowledge, Skill, and Awareness(KSA) model for Security and Safety(S&S) talent cultivation, proves the feasibility of this model by analyzing the theoretical, disciplinary, methodological, practical, and societal foundations of S&S talent cultivation. Additionally, this paper proposes principles and strategies for building a S&S talent cultivation system based on its unique characteristics and patterns. It gives a talent cultivation scheme, supported by an “Independent Knowledge system, Education and Cultivation system, Practice and Training system, Evaluation and Certification system,and Awareness Popularization system”. Finally, this paper puts forward a proposal for coordinating efforts and adopting multiple measures to accelerate the cultivation of S&S talents.

Mining the overlapping community structure is a very important task in complex network analysis. With the development of social network and Internet of things, the scale of data is becoming larger and larger. Many existing algorithms can not deal with such a large-scale network. In order to improve the efficiency of community detection in large-scale networks, an overlapping community detection algorithm based on graph streaming is proposed. The algorithm processes the edges in the network in a streaming mode, processes only one edge at a time and each edge is processed only once and then discarded. The algorithm divides the nodes according to the degree of node, the contribution of node to the community, and the number of connected edges between communities before and after the node's moving. Experimental results on real-life networks show that our proposed approach can quickly discover overlapping community structures in large-scale networks with linear computational complexity.

High power continuous-wave ytterbium-doped fiber lasers have unique advantages such as high electro-optical efficiency, excellent beam quality and good thermal management, and are widely used in industrial materials processing and scientific research. However, multi-kW $(\geqslant$ 10kW) high-power fiber lasers has encountered numerous technology challenges in double-cladding fibers. In this work, we designed and fabricated a triple-cladding ytterbium doped fiber with large core diameter by using Modified Chemical Vapor deposition (MCVd) combined with all-gas-phase doping method. An excellent laser performance could be demonstrated for such a fiber with an output power of more than 10 kW and a slope efficiency of 82%, no Transverse Mode instability (TMI) is observed. Long-term laser stability at 12 kW-level was carried out in a master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) laser system for 500 hours with power degradation less than 1%, meanwhile a stimulated raman scattering (SrS) suppression ratio that is larger than 45dB was obtained.

Aiming at the single-point vulnerability such as tampering attack of SdN controllers, current solutions have passive defense defects and cannot solve the security problem of control layer fundamentally. Combined with state-of-the-art moving target defense, cyber mimic defense, and other active defense technologies, we present a security scheduling mechanism with heterogeneous redundant structure, which provides system dynamics and diversity for improved security. We also consider the load factor while designing the scheduling algorithm in our model, thus transforming it into a dynamic optimization problem. Several solutions are compared in terms of anti-attack capability, and simulation results show that proactive scheduling strategies can obviously improve system security as dynamic and diversity properties block the adversary’s attack process. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Intrusion detection system (IdS) plays a vital role in cybersecurity. One major challenge in state-of-the-art IdS is that the Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) cannot be well detected. deep Neural Networks (dNNs) extract latent features of input data, which is considered to be able to capture intrinsic property of APTs, to detect APTs. However, dNN is not well used in APT detection. In this paper, a dNN model is utilized for intrusion detection and a novel method of preprocessing is proposed to improve the performance of the detection algorithms. We consider the statistical characteristics of training set to be the statistical characteristics of test set and detection set. Experiment results show that our preprocessing methodology achieves a better performance in terms of accuracy, recall and F1 Score than traditional preprocessing methods, which means a better detection for APTs.

Fused tapered Fan-in/Fan-out devices of few-mode multi-core fiber have received attentions in recent ten years. Most devices are based on special designed fibers which are called “bridge fiber”. A low insertion loss and low-cost Fan-in/Fan-out device using OM3 fiber as the bridge fiber is fabricated and demonstrated in this paper. The insertion losses of LPOl, LPlla, LPllb, and LP2la are less than 1dB, and the insertion loss of LP2lb and LP02 are 2.02dB and 2.2dB.

IP address dynamic protection techniques will introduce additional overhead. Therefore, the performance of normal network transmission decreases. In order to deal with this problem, we design and implement a dynamic IP address defense system accelerated by Vector Packet Processing (VPP). Using VPP's flexibility and extensibility, we change the packet's IP in the gateway. We derive the dynamic IP strategy profiles based on the optimization analysis, and design the fast and slow forwarding logic based on VPP's graph processing to reduce the overhead. The experimental results show that the system can hide the real IP address and enhance the system's data processing ability effectively. It can also control the potential detection attack hit rate below 5%, which significantly improved compared with existing technologies. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

In this paper, we explore potential innovations that could lead to breakthrough developments in Internet technologies. The deep integration of the Internet and economic society brings professionalized service capacity demand, while existing Internet infrastructure with its current technological systems still face a number of challenges, such as intelligence, diversification, personalization, robustness, and ***, we analyze the actual foundation of innovation and specify the basic technical features of a novel network. Then, we propose a fully dimensionally definable open architecture as the primary direction, and consider reshaping baseline technologies as a starting point and discuss the core operational mechanisms of the novel network based on such reshaped baseline technologies.
