As the largest source of technical information around the world, patents are regarded as an essential crystallization and carrier of knowledge and technological innovation. Patent transformation is conducive not only to enhancing economic efficiency, but also to improving productivity and the rational utilization of resources. There is an imbalance between high patent ownership and low transformation rates. We try to predict the occurrence of transformation events from the patent assignment. However, there are some challenges in predicting patent transformation: (1) how to capture transformation features of patents, especially combined with the transfer time factor. (2) how to predict patent transfer time effectively. To address these challenges, a Patent Transfer Time Forecasting Model (PTTFM) is proposed. The model includes: (1) extraction of time-varying features of patents. (2) the patent transfer time is forecast using a Neural Temporal Point Process. By testing the model on patents under different classifications, the experimental results are obtained to show that the proposed model is applicable to predict the timing of patent assignment within a certain time frame, especially one month. Our work may facilitate patent transformation while interpretability is ensured for transformation events. © 2023 IEEE.

DreamLayer: Simultaneous Multi-Layer Generation via Diffusion Model

Text-driven image generation using diffusion models has recently gained significant attention. To enable more flexible image manipulation and editing, recent research has expanded from single image generation to transparent layer generation and multi-layer compositions. However, existing approaches often fail to provide a thorough exploration of multi-layer structures, leading to inconsistent inter-layer interactions, such as occlusion relationships, spatial layout, and shadowing. In this paper, we introduce DreamLayer, a novel framework that enables coherent text-driven generation of multiple image layers, by explicitly modeling the relationship between transparent foreground and background layers. DreamLayer incorporates three key components, i.e., Context-Aware Cross-Attention (CACA) for global-local information exchange, Layer-Shared Self-Attention (LSSA) for establishing robust inter-layer connections, and Information Retained Harmonization (IRH) for refining fusion details at the latent level. By leveraging a coherent full-image context, DreamLayer builds inter-layer connections through attention mechanisms and applies a harmonization step to achieve seamless layer fusion. To facilitate research in multi-layer generation, we construct a high-quality, diverse multi-layer dataset including 400k samples. Extensive experiments and user studies demonstrate that DreamLayer generates more coherent and well-aligned layers, with broad applicability, including latent-space image editing and image-to-layer decomposition. Mathematical formulas are ubiquitous in courses such as Machine Learning. Understanding these formulas is the primary challenge for studying of students. If a searchable knowledge base can be built for these formulas, it will help students learn. Accurate identification of these formulas is an important step in building and querying the knowledge base. However, mathematical formulas have complex two-dimensional and nested structures, which makes them inconvenient to search like ordinary text. This paper employs Faster R-CNN to detect regions containing mathematical formulas and improves its backbone network, anchor box dimensions, and pre-training network to make it more accurate and efficient in identifing these formulas. Furthermore, in order to enhance the features and meaningful representation of mathematical formulas in the input image, we introduce the distance transformation. Finally, comparative experiments were conducted on the publicly dataset GTDB. Our proposed approach achieved recognition rates of 91.22% and 85.74% for isolated and hybrid formulas detection. © 2023 IEEE.

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, online teaching has gradually emerged as an indispensable component of education. Despite its convenience, online education lacks the immediate interactive experience inherent in traditional classrooms. This paper presents a meticulously designed DS-YOLOv8 network model, specifically tailored for real-time recognition of students raising their hands under cameras. On our proprietary dataset, this network model exhibits exceptional accuracy in hand-raising detection, showcasing a 1.3% improvement in the AP50 index compared to the baseline YOLOv8 model. Our focus lies on the application of hand-raising detection within online classrooms with an objective to provide enhanced support for teachers by promptly identifying students raising their hands and thereby improving teaching efficiency while enriching the interactive experience of students in virtual learning environments. © 2023 IEEE.

As the largest class of small non-coding RNAs, piRNAs primarily present in the reproductive cells of mammals, which influence post-transcriptional processes of mRNAs in multiple ways. Effective methods for predicting piRNA and mRNA target relationships can help identify piRNA functions, investigate the possibility of piRNAs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In this study, we propose a computational approach for classifying the relationships of piRNA-mRNA pairs based on an interactive inference network (IIN). First, we gather piRNA-mRNA target data, collect sequence data by position alignment, and construct a benchmark dataset. Furthermore, a reliable negative set is constructed by positive-unlabeled learning. Finally, we view a piRNA and a mRNA sequence as a premise and hypothesis sentence, respectively, and IIN model is used to predict the relationship between them. The experiments demonstrate that our method effectively characterizes piRNA-mRNA interaction and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate piRNA functions. © 2023 IEEE.

A fast image compression algorithm based on wavelet transform

—With multimedia becoming widely popular, the conflict between mass data and finite memory devices has been continuously intensified;so, it requires more convenient, efficient and high-quality transmission and storage technology and meanwhile, this is also the researchers’ pursuit for highly efficient compression technology and it is the fast image transmission that is what people really seek. This paper mainly further studies wavelet analysis and fractal compression coding, proposes a fast image compression coding method based on wavelet transform and fractal theory, and provides the theoretical basis and specific operational approaches for the algorithm. It makes use of the smoothness of wavelet, the high compression ratio of fractal compression coding and the high quality of reconstructed image. It firstly processes the image through wavelet transform. Then it introduces fractal features and classifies the image according to the features of image sub-blocks. Each class selects the proper features. In this way, for any sub-block, it only needs to search the best-matched block in a certain class according to the corresponding features. With this method, it can effectively narrow the search in order to speed up coding and build the relation of inequality between the sub-block and the matching mean square error. So, it can effectively combine wavelet transform with fractal theory and further improves the quality of reconstructed image. To enhance the computational efficiency and precision of community discovery, a community discovery algorithm with the mixed label based on the minimum description length (MDI) of information compression is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the community detection is converted to the information compression problem of seeking for an effective network structure and the quality evaluation function is constructed based on the MDL criterion. Secondly, the community discovery algorithm with heuristic mixed label movement is constructed based on the label node movement algorithm and Louvain community addition algorithm so as to reduce the quality evaluation function. Finally, the simulation experiment in the standard test set and API capture Sina microblog dataset shows that the proposed algorithm is superior to the selected comparison algorithm in computational efficiency and precision. © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Image shadow removal is challenging due to the diversity of shadows and the dependence on the background of the area covered by shadows. In this paper, we design an enhanced generative adversarial network (EGAN) to handle the shadow removal task. EGAN is a complicated generative adversarial network that may exploit previous info, like shadow masks and lightness estimation, for improving recovery capability. In addition, EGAN can effectively utilize the details of shadow regions and eliminate artifacts. EGAN owns three main advantages. First, EGAN employs stricter rules for discriminators, which can upgrade the instability of traditional GAN. Second, EGAN involves a completely unique enhanced attention module, which may efficiently pick up different types of previous info to accelerate the learning efficiency of image reconstruction. Finally, EGAN is essentially an original cascaded network, that is, DRDU, which is beneficial for efficiently detecting hierarchical features of image recovery. Simulation experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method on two benchmark datasets including SRD and ISTD, the strengths of our proposed method are indicated over the current representative ones according to subjective performance and objective estimation indexes.

Smart contracts are programs that run on a blockchain, where Ethereum is one of the most popular ones supporting them. Due to the fact that they are immutable, it is essential to design smart contracts bug-free before they are deployed. However, various defects have been found in the deployed smart contracts, causing huge economic losses and lowing people's trust. Writing secure smart contracts is far from trivial, where developers tend to engage in reliable resources or social coding platforms to reuse code. This leads to a large number of similar contracts with potential security risks. Therefore, detecting similarity of smart contracts helps to avoid vulnerabilities, identify threats, and improve the security of Ethereum. In this paper, we design a learning-effective and cost-efficient model, called SmartSD, for Ethereum smart contract similarity detection. Different from the current research efforts, SmartSD is performed on a bytecode level and leverages deep neural networks to learn the latent representations from the opcode sequences for smart contract bytecodes, where the representation learning and similarity measurement are supervised via siamese neural networks. The experimental evaluations demonstrate that SmartSD outperforms EClone's 93.27% accuracy, achieving 98.37% high detection accuracy and 0.9850 F1-score, which is computationally tractable and effectively mitigates the interference caused by compilers. © 2022 Knowledge Systems Institute Graduate School. Real-world networks can be divided into homophilic and heterophilic graphs. Significantly, many nodes tend to be heterophilic in a homophilic graph. Graph representation learning in heterophilic graphs has attracted considerable significance in recent years as it breaks the homophily assumption and achieves higher-quality graph embeddings. However, existing heterophilic graph representation learning methods often mix attribute and topological information, neglecting the mutual exclusion between attribute information and topological information. Furthermore, algorithms in heterogeneous graphs usually rely on specific matrix structures to capture high-order information, which may restrict the applicability of these methods. To tackle these issues, this paper proposes a GNN-based strategy for Heterophilic graph Representation Learning based on Multi-order information extraction and High and Low pass filters (HRLMHL). First, we designed two relatively independent modules to learn attribute information and topological information, respectively, to address the issue of mismatch. Second, we built a multi-order information extraction module to extract multi-order similarity features, thereby achieving the learning of high-order graph information. Experiments on real datasets show that the node classification accuracy is superior to that of the state-of-the-art methods on most datasets. © 2024 IEEE.
