The key issue in top-fc retrieval,finding a set of fc documents(from a large document collection) that can best answer a user's query,is to strike the optimal balance between relevance and *** this paper,we study the top-fc retrieval problem in the framework of facility location analysis and prove the submodularity of that objective function which provides a theoretical approximation guarantee of factor 1--for the(best-first) greedy search ***,we propose a two-stage hybrid search strategy which first obtains a high-quality initial set of top-fc documents via greedy search,and then refines that result set iteratively via local *** on two large TREC benchmark datasets show that our two-stage hybrid search strategy approach can supersede the existing ones effectively and efficiently.

The Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) paradigm is anticipated to be a cornerstone of the upcoming 6G networks. In order to optimize the use of wireless resources, 6G ISAC systems need to harness the communication data payload signals, which are inherently random, for both sensing and communication (S&C) purposes. This tutorial paper provides a comprehensive technical overview of the fundamental theory and signal processing methodologies for ISAC transmission with random communication signals. We begin by introducing the deterministic-random tradeoff (DRT) between S&C from an information-theoretic perspective, emphasizing the need for specialized signal processing techniques tailored to random ISAC signals. Building on this foundation, we review the core signal models and processing pipelines for communication-centric ISAC systems, and analyze the average squared auto-correlation function (ACF) of random ISAC signals, which serves as a fundamental performance metric for multi-target ranging tasks. Drawing insights from these theoretical results, we outline the design principles for the three key components of communication-centric ISAC systems: modulation schemes, constellation design, and pulse shaping filters. The goal is to either enhance sensing performance without compromising communication efficiency or to establish a scalable tradeoff between the two. We then extend our analysis from a single-antenna ISAC system to its multi-antenna counterpart, discussing recent advancements in multiinput multi-output (MIMO) precoding techniques specifically designed for random ISAC signals. We conclude by highlighting several open challenges and future research directions in the field of sensing with communication signals. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

cloud computing systems promise to offer subscription-oriented, enterprise-quality computing services to users worldwide. With the increased demand for delivering services to a large number of users, they need to offer differentiated services to users and meet their quality expectations. Existing resource management systems in data centers are yet to support Service Level Agreement (SLA)-oriented resource allocation, and thus need to be enhanced to realize cloud computing and utility computing. In addition, no work has been done to collectively incorporate customer-driven service management, computational risk management, and autonomic resource management into a market-based resource management system to target the rapidly changing enterprise requirements of cloud computing. This paper presents vision, challenges, and architectural elements of SLA-oriented resource management. The proposed architecture supports integration of market-based provisioning policies and virtualisation technologies for flexible allocation of resources to applications. The performance results obtained from our working prototype system shows the feasibility and effectiveness of SLA-based resource provisioning in clouds.

cloud platforms make available a virtually infinite amount of computing resources, which are managed by third parties and are accessed by users on demand in a pay-per-use manner, with Quality of Service guarantees. This enables computing infrastructures to be scaled up and down accordingly to the amount of data to be processed. MapReduce is among the most popular models for development of cloud applications. As the utilization of such programming model spreads across multiple application domains, the need for timely execution of these applications arises. While existing approaches focus in meeting deadlines via admission control or preemption of lower priority applications, we propose a policy for dynamic provisioning of cloud resources to speed up execution of deadline-constrained MapReduce applications, by enabling concurrent execution of tasks, in order to meet a deadline for completion of the Map phase of the application. We describe the proposed algorithm and an actual implementation of it in the Aneka cloud Platform. Experiments on such prototype implementation show that our proposed approach can effectively meet the soft deadlines while minimizing the budget for application execution.

The generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) is a notable breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence, as it empowers machines to effectively comprehend and engage in interactions with humans. The GPT exhibits the capacity to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for students with learning disabilities in the context of higher education, hence potentially facilitating substantial advancements in the field. GPT can provide personalized and diverse solutions that successfully cater to the distinct requirements of students with learning disabilities. This motivated us to conduct an extensive review to assess the effectiveness of GPT in enhancing accessibility and inclusivity in higher education for students with learning disabilities. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of the GPT and its significance for enhancing inclusivity in the field of higher education. In this research, we also examined the possible challenges and constraints associated with the integration of GPT into inclusive higher education, along with potential solutions. Overall, this review is intended for educators, students with and without learning disabilities, policymakers, higher education institutes, researchers, and educational technology developers. This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of GPT in promoting inclusive higher education for people with various learning disabilities, its impacts on inclusive higher education, emerging challenges, and potential solutions. Interest Points Analysis for Internet Forum Based on Long-Short Windows Similarity

For Internet forum Points of Interest(PoI),existing analysis methods are usually lack of usability analysis under different conditions and ignore the long-term variation,which lead to blindness in method *** address this problem,this paper proposed a PoI variation prediction framework based on similarity analysis between long and short *** on the framework,this paper presented 5 PoI analysis algorithms which can be categorized into 2 types,i.e.,the traditional sequence analysis methods such as autoregressive integrated moving average model(ARIMA),support vector regressor(SVR),and the deep learning methods such as convolutional neural network(CNN),long-short term memory network(LSTM),Transformer(TRM).Specifically,this paper firstly divides observed data into long and short windows,and extracts key words as PoI of each ***,the PoI similarities between long and short windows are calculated for training and ***,series of experiments is conducted based on real Internet forum *** results show that,all the 5 algorithms could predict PoI variations well,which indicate effectiveness of the proposed *** the length of long window is small,traditional methods perform better,and SVR is the *** the contrary,the deep learning methods show superiority,and LSTM performs *** results could provide beneficial references for PoI variation analysis and prediction algorithms selection under different parameter configurations.

Generative AI (GenAI) is driving the intelligence of wireless communications. Due to data limitations, random generation, and dynamic environments, GenAI may generate channel information or optimization strategies that violate physical laws or deviate from actual real-world requirements. We refer to this phenomenon as wireless hallucination, which results in invalid channel information, spectrum wastage, and low communication reliability but remains underexplored. To address this gap, this article provides a comprehensive concept of wireless hallucinations in GenAI-driven communications, focusing on hallucination mitigation. Specifically, we first introduce the fundamental, analyze its causes based on the GenAI workflow, and propose mitigation solutions at the data, model, and post-generation levels. Then, we systematically examines representative hallucination scenarios in GenAI-enabled communications and their corresponding solutions. Finally, we propose a novel integrated mitigation solution for GenAI-based channel estimation. At the data level, we establish a channel estimation hallucination dataset and employ generative adversarial networks (GANs)-based data augmentation. Additionally, we incorporate attention mechanisms and large language models (LLMs) to enhance both training and inference performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid solutions reduce the normalized mean square error (NMSE) by 0.19, effectively reducing wireless hallucinations. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy that characterizes and classifies different components of autonomic application management in Grids. We also survey several representative Grid systems developed by various projects world-wide to demonstrate the comprehensiveness of the taxonomy. The taxonomy not only highlights the similarities and differences of state-of-the-art technologies utilized in autonomic application management from the perspective of Grid computing, but also identifies the areas that require further research initiatives. © 2010 IEEE.

Despite the impressive performance of current vision-based facial action unit (AU) detection approaches, they are heavily susceptible to the variations across different domains and the cross-domain AU detection methods are under-explored. In response to this challenge, we propose a decoupled doubly contrastive adaptation (D2CA) approach to learn a purified AU representation that is semantically aligned for the source and target domains. Specifically, we decompose latent representations into AU-relevant and AU-irrelevant components, with the objective of exclusively facilitating adaptation within the AU-relevant subspace. To achieve the feature decoupling, D2CA is trained to disentangle AU and domain factors by assessing the quality of synthesized faces in cross-domain scenarios when either AU or domain attributes are modified. To further strengthen feature decoupling, particularly in scenarios with limited AU data diversity, D2CA employs a doubly contrastive learning mechanism comprising image and feature-level contrastive learning to ensure the quality of synthesized faces and mitigate feature ambiguities. This new framework leads to an automatically learned, dedicated separation of AU-relevant and domain-relevant factors, and it enables intuitive, scale-specific control of the cross-domain facial image synthesis. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of D2CA in successfully decoupling AU and domain factors, yielding visually pleasing cross-domain synthesized facial images. Meanwhile, D2CA consistently outperforms state-of-the-art cross-domain AU detection approaches, achieving an average F1 score improvement of 6%-14% across various cross-domain scenarios. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

Fog and Edge computing extend cloud services to the proximity of end users, allowing many Internet of Things (IoT) use cases, particularly latency-critical applications. Smart devices, such as traffic and surveillance cameras, often do not have sufficient resources to process computation-intensive and latency-critical services. Hence, the constituent parts of services can be offloaded to nearby Edge/Fog resources for processing and storage. However, making offloading decisions for complex services in highly stochastic and dynamic environments is an important, yet difficult task. Recently, Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) has been used in many complex service offloading problems; however, existing techniques are most suitable for centralized environments, and their convergence to the best-suitable solutions is slow. In addition, constituent parts of services often have predefined data dependencies and quality of service constraints, which further intensify the complexity of service offloading. To solve these issues, we propose a distributed DRL technique following the actor-critic architecture based on Asynchronous Proximal Policy Optimization (APPO) to achieve efficient and diverse distributed experience trajectory generation. Also, we employ PPO clipping and V-trace techniques for off-policy correction for faster convergence to the most suitable service offloading solutions. The results obtained demonstrate that our technique converges quickly, offers high scalability and adaptability, and outperforms its counterparts by improving the execution time of heterogeneous services.
