Modern machine learning approaches often prioritize performance at the cost of increased complexity, computational demands, and reduced interpretability. This paper introduces a novel framework that challenges this trend by reinterpreting learning from an information-theoretic perspective, viewing it as a search for encoding schemes that capture intrinsic data structures through compact representations. Rather than following the conventional approach of fitting data to complex models, we propose a fundamentally different method that maps data to intervals of initial conditions in a dynamical system. Our GLS (Generalized Lüroth Series) coding compression classifier employs skew tent maps - a class of chaotic maps - both for encoding data into initial conditions and for subsequent recovery. The effectiveness of this simple framework is noteworthy, with performance closely approaching that of well-established machine learning methods. On the breast cancer dataset, our approach achieves 92.98% accuracy, comparable to Naive Bayes at 94.74%. While these results do not exceed state-of-the-art performance, the significance of our contribution lies not in outperforming existing methods but in demonstrating that a fundamentally simpler, more interpretable approach can achieve competitive results. Ge-As-Se chalcogenide thin films show a wide range of photosensitivity,which is utilized for the fabrication of micro-optical elements for integrated *** photosensitivity of GexAs40Se60-x（x=0,15）chalcogenide thin films for UV light was *** that purpose,the bulk samples of GexAs40Se60-x（x=0,15）chalcogenide glasses were prepared using conventional melt quenching technique,and thin films were prepared using thermal evaporation *** thin films were exposed to UV light for two *** natures of bulk samples and thin films were verified by XRD and chemical compositions were verified by EDX *** thicknesses of the thin films were measured using a thickness *** optical analysis of these thin films was done using transmission spectra in wavelength range of 300-900 *** bandgap was determined by first peak of transmission derivative as well as extrapolation of Tauc's plot.R2analysis was done using R software to ensure that the material is indirect bandgap *** is observed that two hours UV exposure causes photo-darkening along with photo-expansion in As40Se60thin films,while photo-bleaching and photo-densification for Ge15As40Se45thin ***,the amounts of photo-induced optical changes for Ge15As40Se45thin films are smaller than those for As40Se60thin *** changes in optical absorption,bandgap and thickness are understood based on the bonding rearrangement caused by UV exposure.

We propose a hybrid algorithm (called ALPINE) between Genetic Algorithm and Dantzig's Simplex method to approximate optimal solutions for the Flexible Job-Shop Problem. Locally, Simplex is extended for the JSP linear program to reduce the number of infeasible solutions while solution quality is improved with an operation order search. Globally, a niche-based evolutionary strategy is employed to gain parallelization while solution diversity is maintained in two ways;composite dispatching rule-based population initialization and memory-based machine assignment. Performance results on benchmark problems show that ALPINE outperforms existing hybrid techniques with a new global optima found for the 10×7 Flexible Job Shop Problem. Copyright 2006 ACM.

We use probabilistic Boolean networks to simulate the pathogenesis of Dengue Hemorraghic Fever (DHF). Based on Chaturvedi's work, the strength of cytokine influences are modeled stochastically as inducement probabilities. We use an aggregated function approach to derive the DHF Infection Model. Two basins of attractors are observed with synchronous updating; the Null Infection cycle attractor shows an expected cross-regulation of Th1 and Th2 cytokines corresponding to the homeostasis of an uninfected person, while the DHF Infection attractor shows the onset of DHF. With asynchronous updating, our model remains valid with clinical comparisons against qualitative changes in signal durations. In order to find intervention points that could prevent DHF we design a genetic algorithm to shift the DHF attractor to the DF attractor basin by using the DF final state as the fitness measure. Our simulation results identify TGF-beta, IL-8 and IL-13 as the intervention points which are consistent with known clinical results to prevent DHF from occurring

This study analyzes causal connections between cross-hemispheric brain regions in individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) through Electroencephalography (EEG) data. A phase-based causality analysis technique is first validated on coupled Rössler systems and then employed on EEG recordings from MDD patients. Our results provide significant insights regarding causal influences in cross-hemispheric brain connectivity of MDD patients who exhibit an early response to medication after commencing treatment. © 2023 Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy o.

In this paper, we infer the direction of information transfer between interacting subsystems using a cross-dependence index derived from the phase dynamics of coupled subsystems. First, we apply this method to unidirectionally coupled Rössler oscillators. This index always has a higher value along the direction of coupling than that opposite to the coupling. Finally, we employ this method in analysis of EEG signals. The aim of this analysis is to identify the direction of information transfer in the brain in patients suffering from depression and quantify its changes during the treatment process. © 2023 Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy o.

Brain connectivity, extracted from EEG is considered for quantitative characterization of changes in brain function due to a mental disease and its treatment. Weighted imaginary coherence is chosen as a connectivity measure reflecting true brain interactions without distortions due to scalp conductivity and a common reference electrode. This measure is used in analyses of EEG data from patients suffering from major depressive disorder and its potential in prediction of efficacy of antidepressant treatment is demonstrated. © 2023 Institute of Measurement Science, Slovak Academy o.

With the recent introduction of third generation (3G) technology in the field of mobile communications, mobile phone service providers will have to find an effective strategy to market this new technology. One approach is to analyze the current profile of existing 3G subscribers to discover common patterns in their usage of mobile phones. With these usage patterns, the service provider can effectively target certain classes of customers who are more likely to purchase their subscription plans. To discover these patterns, we use a novel algorithm called Artficial Immune Recognition System (AIRS) that is based on the specificity of the human immune system. In our experiment, the algorithm performs well, achieving an accuracy rate in the range of 80% to 90%, depending on the set of parameter values used. Copyright © 2007, Idea Group Inc.

Simulating Congestion Dynamics of Train Rapid Transit Using Smart Card Data

Investigating congestion in train rapid transit systems (RTS) in today's urban cities is a challenge compounded by limited data availability and difficulties in model validation. Here, we integrate information from travel smart card data, a mathematical model of route choice, and a full-scale agent-based model of the Singapore RTS to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the congestion dynamics than can be obtained through analytical modelling alone. Our model is empirically validated, and allows for close inspection of the dynamics including station crowdedness, average travel duration, and frequency of missed trains—all highly pertinent factors in service quality. Using current data, the crowdedness in all 121 stations appears to be distributed log-normally. In our preliminary scenarios, we investigate the effect of population growth on service quality. We find that the current population (2 million) lies below a critical point; and increasing it beyond a factor of approximately 10% leads to an exponential deterioration in service quality. We also predict that incentivizing commuters to avoid the most congested hours can bring modest improvements to the service quality provided the population remains under the critical point. Finally, our model can be used to generate simulated data for statistical analysis when such data are not empirically available, as is often the case.

E-democracy refers to a set of methods to address social issues through the web, possibly by using decision support methodologies to involve citizens in decision-making processes. Participatory budgets, in which citizens participate in budget allocation, are an example. Web applications supporting these processes entail complex interactions in which users communicate their preferences, negotiate alternatives with other participants, etc. Thus, developing web applications may determine the usability and success of an application. To better reflect the paths which may drive users through an application, navigation models have been widely adopted by the web engineering community. HM3 is a navigation modelling method that we apply to the development of a system to support e-participatory budget formation. The system was first implemented without following a navigation modelling method. By comparing these two approaches, we detect navigational issues that could facilitate the user's understanding of decision processes, and suggest guidelines to systematise the development of e-democracy applications.
