Multi-dispatch for Grid-connected Microgrid with Robust Optimization Algorithm

Increasing penetration of uncoordinated electric vehicles (EVs) and intermittent renewable energy generation in microgrid systems motivates us to explore an effective strategy for the safe and economic operation of such distributed generation (DG) systems. This paper presents a robust economic dispatch strategy for grid-connected microgrids. Uncertainty from wind power and EV charging loads is considered as an uncertain set of interval predictions. Considering the worst application scenario, the proposed strategy can help to schedule the EV charging behaviors and DG outputs in order to reduce operation cost under practical constraints. In addition, in order to facilitate the decision makers to make decision strategies from the perspective of economy, this paper explores the relationship between the volatility of uncertain parameters and economy based on the theory of interval forecast. Numerical case study shows the feasibility of the proposed dispatch strategy. © 2018

Expertise and confidence explain how social influence evolves along intellective tasks

Discovering the antecedents of individuals’ influence in collaborative environments is an important, practical, and challenging problem. In this paper, we study interpersonal influence in small groups of individuals who collectively execute a sequence of intellective tasks. We observe that along an issue sequence with feedback, individuals with higher expertise and social confidence are accorded higher interpersonal influence. We also observe that low-performing individuals tend to underestimate their high-performing teammate’s expertise. Based on these observations, we introduce three hypotheses and present empirical and theoretical support for their validity. We report empirical evidence on longstanding theories of transactive memory systems, social comparison, and confidence heuristics on the origins of social influence. We propose a cognitive dynamical model inspired by these theories to describe the process by which individuals adjust interpersonal influences over time. We demonstrate the model’s accuracy in predicting individuals’ influence and provide analytical results on its asymptotic behavior for the case with identically performing individuals. Lastly, we propose a novel approach using deep neural networks on a pre-trained text embedding model for predicting the influence of individuals. Using message contents, message times, and individual correctness collected during tasks, we are able to accurately predict individuals’ self-reported influence over time. Extensive experiments verify the accuracy of the proposed models compared to baselines such as structural balance and reflected appraisal model. While the neural networks model is the most accurate, the dynamical model is the most interpretable for influence prediction. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a promising networking paradigm that connects various kinds of sensors and exchanges data from smart devices. Since IoT always related to user’s daily life, the problems of security and privacy are of great importance. Presently, the attribute based encryption (ABE) is a popular solution to guarantee the fine-grained sharing of encrypted data in IoT. In this paper, an attribute based keyword search with lightweight decryption in multi-authority (ABKS-LD-MA) is proposed. Our system supports multi-keyword search in cloud by using searchable attribute based encryption. We also integrate the lightweight decryption to searchable ABE scheme that largely reduces the computing overhead for users. Furthermore, our ABKS-LD-MA scheme supports multi-authority scenario, which is more adaptive to the real IoT environment. The experiment analysis shows that our scheme has relatively lowered the communication cost on IoT devices. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Stochastic Link Flow Model for Signalized Traffic Networks with Uncertainty in Demand

In order to investigate the stochastic features in urban traffic dynamics, we propose a Stochastic Link Flow Model (SLFM) for signalized traffic networks with demand uncertainties. In the proposed model, the link traffic state is described using four different link state modes, and the probability for each link state mode is determined based on the stochastic link states. The SLFM model is expressed as a finite mixture approximation of the link state probabilities and the dynamic link flow models for all the four link state modes. Using data from microscopic traffic simulator SUMO, we illustrate that the proposed model can provide a reliable estimation of the link traffic states, and as well as good estimations on the link state uncertainties propagating within a signalized traffic network. © 2018

Object control requires the calculation of a regulator. One of the most effective methods for calculating the regulator is the method of numerical optimization of the regulator. This paper discusses the solution of the problem of controlling a linear object of the sixth order, the parameters of which are such that this high order significantly and negatively affects the possibilities of successfully managing this object. Using the traditional approach to the design problem of the controller (regulator) allows us to formally solve the problem;however, the result of this solution is not satisfactory. The use of additional derivation does not give any noticeable improvement. A solution to this problem is proposed by using pseudo-local feedback, moreover, this connection is supposedly most effective if it covers one of two identical links in the object model. This allows for a smoother attenuation of the frequency response of the object in the region where the action of these two links begins to affect. For pseudo-local communication, an additional PID controller is used, the coefficients of which are also determined by the method of numerical optimization. The optimization result allows us to conclude that the presence of an integral element in this controller is optional. The calculation result of such a composite controller meets the most stringent requirements for the quality of control, since in such a system the speed is increased at least twice, the oscillations, which were about 10% in amplitude, are completely eliminated, the robustness of the system is ensured, which is verified by changing all the controller coefficients by 5% up and down, and also by changing the time constant of the element of the pseudolocal loop by 10% up and down, changes in the transition process of the system in this case remain are acceptable. © 2019 IEEE.

A stochastic MPC scheme for distributed systems with multiplicative uncertainty ★

This paper presents a novel Distributed Stochastic Model Predictive control algorithm for networks of linear systems with multiplicative uncertainties and local chance constraints on the control inputs and states. The chance constraints are approximated with the Cantelli-Chebyshev inequality in terms of mean and covariance of the states. The algorithm is based on distributed semidefinite programming and the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers, which result in a distributed implementable, recursive feasible and mean square stable control scheme. The aforementioned properties are proven by computing a distributed invariant set and selecting proper distributed terminal constraints for the mean and covariance. Chance constraint satisfaction and convergence are shown on a numerical example for a system with three interconnected systems. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Fossil fuel power plants dominate the energy structure in China. However, the water scarcity, in Southeast/Southwest China, results in the development of the dry cooling power plants. Direct air cooling condenser (DACC) is appealing for its water saving ability. In DACC, the exhaust steam is cooled and condensed to water by the air flow, which is provided by the fan array at the cost of electricity. There exists a varying optimal exhaust steam pressure under different air temperatures and loads. The static model of the turbine-DACC system is built to quantify the influences of the air temperatures and loads. An on-line optimization is used here to set the reference value of the exhaust steam pressure for the turbine-DACC system for economic operation. The objective is to maximize the net power production while satisfying the constraints on the safety pressure and the available air flowrate. The optimization is conducted in a model 660MW power plant selected on a random summer/winter day. The hourly optimal exhaust steam pressure and the operation instructions are calculated as the reference values for the control layer. The optimization results show that the optimal exhaust steam pressure may be too close to the safety limits in winter, suggesting the safety also to be considered in the optimization. In summer, the DACC system cannot satisfy the condensation load sometimes. Thus, a complementary cooling method, for example, the wet cooling, is needed to reduce the burden on the DACC system. © 2018

A simple and effective colored Petri net (CPN) model is proposed in this paper for a special type of electrical networks that describe local transformer areas, in order to detect and localize illegal loads that may be present. The model is decomposed to characteristic structural elements called feeders with one or two sources the computation of which can be performed independently and in parallel. The CPN model allows to handle the interval-type uncertainties in the model in a transparent and effective way. © 2018

The major wind turbine performance assessment methodology established in the field of wind energy is observing and comparing wind turbine power curves (WTPC) of multiple wind turbines. In this paper, adjustments to this method are proposed to improve overall accuracy of the assessment. While preprocessing the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) data points, density peak clustering (DPC) filters out invalid points such as maintenance and peak-power limitation for a more accurate WTPC. This paper introduces a new variable, performance index "S", to evaluate both overall and segmented wind turbine performance without the influence of wind distribution. Further researches are also discussed in this paper.
