Ultra-broadband amplitude modulation for spectral-shifted pulse pair generation is realized by a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. The results indicate that it's a promising way for single attosecond pulse characterization by the conventional SPIDER method.

We experimentally demonstrated 20 ladder climbing steps on the anharmonic intermolecular potential in the amino-acid microcrystals with an intense monocycle terahertz pulse. Absorption spectra show the suppression of the peak and enhancement of the low-frequency absorption for the incident electric field amplitude. These results are reproduced by simulations based on coherent transition processes between quantum levels in the anharmonic potential. The appearance of such nonlinearity allows us to control macroscopic motion via a phase-controlled terahertz pulse.

Photoinduced spin and charge dynamics in double-exchange model are numerically studied. The Lanczos method and the density-matrix renormalization-group method are applied to one-dimensional finite-size clusters. By photon irradiation in a charge-ordered (CO) insulator associated with antiferromagnetic (AFM) correlation, both the CO and AFM correlations collapse rapidly, and appearances of new peaks inside of an insulating gap are observed in the optical spectra and the one-particle excitation spectra. Time evolutions of the spin correlation and the in-gap state are correlated with each other, and are governed by the transfer integral of conduction electrons. Results are interpreted by the charge kink/antikink picture and their effective motions which depend on the localized spin correlation. Pump-photon density dependence of spin and charge dynamics are also studied. Roles of spin degree of freedom are remarkable in a case of weak photon density. Implications of the numerical results for the pump-probe experiments in perovskite manganites are discussed.

We have investigated the interfacial termination layer dependence of the Schottky barrier height (SBH) for heterojunctions between polar La0.6Sr0.4MnO3 (LSMO) and nonpolar Nb-doped SrTiO3 (Nb:STO). The SBH for LSMO/TiO2-Nb:STO is higher than the SBH predicted from the Schottky-Mott rule by 0.5 eV, indicating the formation of an interface dipole. In contrast, for LSMO/SrO-Nb:STO, the SBH is lower than that predicted from the Schottky-Mott rule by 0.4 eV. These results indicate that a change in the polarity of the polar LSMO overlayers results in inversion of the direction of the interface dipole. The modulation of SBH depending on the interfacial termination layer is reasonably explained by interfacial electronic reconstruction to prevent polar divergence.
