In this paper, we investigate the relationship between the use of discourse relations and the CEFR-level of argumentative English learner essays. Using both the Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) and the Penn Discourse Tree-Bank (PDTB) frameworks, we analyze essays from The International Corpus Network of Asian Learners (ICNALE), and the Corpus and Repository of Writing (CROW). Results show that the use of the RST relations of EXPLANATION and BACKGROUND, as well as the first-level PDTB sense of CONTINGENCY, are influenced by the English proficiency level of the writer. © 2023 Incoma Ltd. Evolutionary reinforcement learning algorithms (ERLs), which combine evolutionary algorithms (EAs) with reinforcement learning (RL), have demonstrated significant success in enhancing RL performance. However, most ERLs rely heavily on Gaussian mutation operators to generate new individuals. When the standard deviation is too large or small, this approach will result in the production of poor or highly similar offspring. Such outcomes can be detrimental to the learning process of the RL agent, as too many poor or similar experiences are generated by these individuals. In order to alleviate these issues, this paper proposes an Adaptive Evolutionary Reinforcement Learning (AERL) method that adaptively adjusts both the standard deviation and the evaluation process. By tracking the performance of new individuals, AERL maintains the mutation strength within a suitable range without the need for additional gradient computations. Moreover, the proposed AERL approach early terminates unnecessary evaluations and discards experiences arising from poor individuals, thereby resulting in enhanced learning efficiency. Empirical assessments conducted on a variety of continuous control problems demonstrate the effectiveness of the AERL method. © 2024 International Foundation for Autonomous Agents and Multiagent systems.

The emergence of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) has promoted the development of synthesized high-fidelity views of the intricate real world. However, it is still a very demanding task to repaint the content in NeRF. In this paper, we propose a novel framework that can take RGB images as input and alter the 3D content in neural scenes. Our work leverages existing diffusion models to guide changes in the designated 3D content. Specifically, we semantically select the target object and a pre-trained diffusion model will guide the NeRF model to generate new 3D objects, which can improve the editability, diversity, and application range of NeRF. Experiment results show that our algorithm is effective for editing 3D objects in NeRF under different text prompts, including editing appearance, shape, and more. We validate our method on both real-world datasets and synthetic-world datasets for these editing tasks. Tomato leaf diseases significantly impact crop production,necessitating early detection for sustainable *** Learning(DL)has recently shown excellent results in identifying and classifying tomato leaf ***,current DL methods often require substantial computational resources,hindering their application on resource-constrained *** propose the Deep Tomato Detection Network(DTomatoDNet),a lightweight DL-based framework comprising 19 learnable layers for efficient tomato leaf disease classification to overcome *** Convn kernels used in the proposed(DTomatoDNet)framework is 1×1,which reduces the number of parameters and helps in more detailed and descriptive feature extraction for *** proposed DTomatoDNet model is trained from scratch to determine the classification success rate.10,000 tomato leaf images(1000 images per class)from the publicly accessible dataset,covering one healthy category and nine disease categories,are utilized in training the proposed DTomatoDNet *** specifically,we classified tomato leaf images into Target Spot(TS),Early Blight(EB),Late Blight(LB),Bacterial Spot(BS),Leaf Mold(LM),Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus(YLCV),Septoria Leaf Spot(SLS),Spider Mites(SM),Tomato Mosaic Virus(MV),and Tomato Healthy(H).The proposed DTomatoDNet approach obtains a classification accuracy of 99.34%,demonstrating excellent accuracy in differentiating between tomato *** model could be used on mobile platforms because it is lightweight and designed with fewer *** farmers can utilize the proposed DTomatoDNet methodology to detect disease more quickly and easily once it has been integrated into mobile platforms by developing a mobile application.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a major subfield of machine learning that focuses on the interaction between humans and computers through several techniques, including topic modeling, which extracts and generates topics from large amounts of unstructured data on the web. Topic modeling uncovers hidden patterns and contextual meanings in web pages, allowing for the categorization, clustering, recommendation of relevant content, detection of emerging trends, and improved information retrieval. The benefit of topic models relies on their performance to detect and generate topics;however, the evaluation of applying topic modeling on web content data remains lacking in current studies. The absence of examining such performance evaluations hinders understanding performance variability across different web pages, the development of refined models, and the ability to keep pace with emerging patterns in the dynamic online environment. This study presents a comprehensive performance evaluation of the benchmark topic models when applied to web content data. It presents a comparison of topic models using four topic coherence metrics, providing an in-depth performance analysis. The evaluation is conducted on a public dataset consisting of 2 million web pages, providing a substantial basis for assessing the strengths and limitations of these models in the context of web data. Additionally, this study examines the utilization of NLP techniques for topic generation within the context of web content and sheds light on the challenges and issues associated with generating topics from web content data, highlighting potential research prospects and the need for future work in the field of web topic modeling using natural language processing. © 2023 IEEE.

Improved Belief Propagation Decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar Codes with Bit-Freezing

Though belief propagation bit-flip(BPBF)decoding improves the error correction performance of polar codes,it uses the exhaustive flips method to achieve the error correction performance of CA-SCL decoding,thus resulting in high decoding complexity and *** alleviate this issue,we incorporate the LDPC-CRC-Polar coding scheme with BPBF and propose an improved belief propagation decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar codes with bit-freezing(LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz).The proposed LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz employs the LDPC code to ensure the reliability of the flipping set,i.e.,critical set(CS),and dynamically update *** modified CS is further utilized for the identification of error-prone *** proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz obtains remarkable error correction performance and is comparable to that of the CA-SCL(L=16)decoder under medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)*** gains up to 1.2dB and 0.9dB at a fixed BLER=10-4compared with BP and BPBF(CS-1),*** addition,the proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz has lower decoding latency compared with CA-SCL and BPBF,i.e.,it is 15 times faster than CA-SCL(L=16)at high SNR regions.

P3DC:Reducing DRAM Cache Hit Latency by Hybrid Mappings

Die-stacked dynamic random access memory(DRAM)caches are increasingly advocated to bridge the performance gap between the on-chip cache and the main *** fully realize their potential,it is essential to improve DRAM cache hit rate and lower its cache hit *** order to take advantage of the high hit-rate of set-association and the low hit latency of direct-mapping at the same time,we propose a partial direct-mapped die-stacked DRAM cache called *** design is motivated by a key observation,i.e.,applying a unified mapping policy to different types of blocks cannot achieve a high cache hit rate and low hit latency *** address this problem,P3DC classifies data blocks into leading blocks and following blocks,and places them at static positions and dynamic positions,respectively,in a unified set-associative *** also propose a replacement policy to balance the miss penalty and the temporal locality of different *** addition,P3DC provides a policy to mitigate cache thrashing due to block type *** results demonstrate that P3DC can reduce the cache hit latency by 20.5%while achieving a similar cache hit rate compared with typical set-associative caches.P3DC improves the instructions per cycle(IPC)by up to 66%(12%on average)compared with the state-of-the-art direct-mapped cache—BEAR,and by up to 19%(6%on average)compared with the tag-data decoupled set-associative cache—DEC-A8.

Leaching Fraction (LF) of Irrigation Water for Saline Soils Using Machine Learning

Soil salinity is a serious land degradation issue in *** is a major threat to agriculture *** irrigation water is applied to leach down the salts from the root zone of the plants in the form of a Leaching fraction(LF)of irrigation *** the leaching process to be effective,the LF of irriga-tion water needs to be adjusted according to the environmental conditions and soil salinity level in the form of Evapotranspiration(ET)*** relationship between environmental conditions and ET rate is hard to be deﬁned by a linear relationship and data-driven Machine learning(ML)based decisions are required to determine the calibrated Evapotranspiration(ETc)***-assisted ETc is pro-posed to adjust the LF according to the ETc and soil salinity level.A regression model is proposed to determine the ETc rate according to the prevailing tempera-ture,humidity,and sunshine,which would be used to determine the smart LF according to the ETc and soil salinity *** proposed model is trained and tested against the Blaney Criddle method of Reference evapotranspiration(ETo)*** validation of the model from the test dataset reveals the accu-racy of the ML model in terms of Root mean squared errors(RMSE)are 0.41,Mean absolute errors(MAE)are 0.34,and Mean squared errors(MSE)are 0.28 mm *** applications of the proposed solution in a real-time environ-ment show that the LF by the proposed solution is more effective in reducing the soil salinity as compared to the traditional process of leaching.
